Haven't seen this kid play other than the usual highlights clips, but surely a 19 year old who couldn't even crack it onto the list of the worst team in the AFL isn't worth blowing our first pick on?!

If someone like Bailey or Spargo is still available, I'd hope the club drafts them.

I would be interested in a comparison with Jack Petruccelle who has been named in connection with our picks also and has a fair bit of pace / line-breaking ability. @stevethemanjordan I believe you've seen a bit of Petruccelle and might be able to add some insight?

I posted a bit on him on page 3 of this thread:

Haven't seen Baker in the flesh, only a glimpse from his highlights vids but from what I can gather, speed would be about the only thing that they share in common.

Petruccelle is very raw.

Would be a dream if he slipped, I love him.

Yeah! There will a couple who slide. Just hope it's someone we want.

Have you seen Garner much? He was in first round calculations at the start of the year but seems to be one who will potentially slip to our picks.

Great effort demonland.

Absolutely rapt that we have him!

Was top of my 'wish list' '

I love the fact that he has fought back from previous disappointment to be drafted.  Work ethic and leaving no stone un-turned is the new Melbourne way!

I first thought that Brisbane would have all of the inside knowledge of this kid, and that picking him would be a stretch, but then I remembered Brisbanes recent drafting record.

Absolutely love the highlights vid. His run is incredible, as is his kicking at speed. A rarity.

On his highlights, I say not half back, but wing for mine, as it didn't show any defensive work.

Welcome to the Dees Oskar, and the Baker family. Hope you can become immersed in the oldest club in the land.

Please keep your son off Demonland if he is not considered starting 18 in round 1. It gets a bit ugly on here.

I think we did well to get him in the 40s.  As @Deeoldfart mentioned above, he is clearly a bloke who has worked extremely hard to get himself back into draft contention and he has pace to burn.  I don't expect him to play much next year but he has time to develop a bigger tank so he can involve himself with more consistency.

No Ginger Baker/Cream gags. Disappointing.

Sure there was, just one page ago...

If that doesn't do it, how about Ginger Baker after the famous drummer from Cream?

There’s a spot in the team for Baker. Needs to compete with Stretch for the fast running wing position that I see as a missing element in our best 22.

I think I'm actually most excited by this guy.  He has the two things we desperately need in pace and kicking skills.  He could be a real bargain.

And your wish came true! As well as getting this guy..

Nice to see some dash and speed and looks the type to win his own ball .

Also someone said he should go to the Saints where they have J. Bruce.

Great story on MFC Website about young Oskar.

Had to overcome adversity.

I like his style to take on the game with his pace.  Don’t be surprised if the ginger ninja gets a spot in the team in early rounds of 2018.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
