If the Dees had 90K members I would not buy one. Why would you buy a membership there is no game that 90k can get into all at once and the chance of a GF ticket are next to none if you hold the lowest level membership. Better to buy a GWS membership that way you can get finals tickets at this point. At 90K membership the game becomes a TV game for me.

A very interesting point OD.

The situation you outline has been the norm (percentage wise) for both Adelaide and WCE for several years now.

Friends in Adelaide talk about the waiting lists for reserved seats. In those days it was the Crows but I notice that Port now have a waiting list as well.

Of course a lot of those 90k Richmond membership numbers are interstate and three game members but even at say 60k worth of home and way members that is a huge number.

As Demon supporters we can only dream of having such worries.

I love the MFC DJ but not that much. I simply don't go if it is too hard. Have thought of my membership as a chartitable donation for some time but there is a limit. Would rather attend the Amos or a VFL match than sit in the top deck of the southern stand and watch ants.

Interesting ideas here. I have been a red seat attender for donkeys years and turned that into a home game reserved membership when the new northern stand was built. Always sit with the same Melbourne people in M51. There is always plenty of space to spread out (even on Q’s Birthday) and we always look down our noses at “opposition”supporters who have unfortunately been sold single game day tickets into “our space”. Now, for the first time in all those donkey’s years, I prepare for the ANZAC Eve game, relaxed in the knowledge that me and my family have the luxury of a walk up start and reserved seat. Worth every penny! If the crowd is to be 80-90K as some are suggesting it will be interesting to see how the spare non membership seats in our area are allocated. Nice problem to have. Go Dees.

Just wondering which pub do supporters normally go for a pregame beverage?

Jibroni, go to the Sporting Globe, Richmond at 288 Bridge Road, Richmond, just a stone's throw from the MCG and dedicated to the mighty MFC - it is an easy pre-game stagger if you leave there with 10 minutes walking time to spare, having been lured to indulge in the wonderful, chilled Carlton Draught.

Not great for parking unless you are there before 1200hrs.

Food is average to good, depending on your preferences.

(Around August, the MFC throw a good  pre-game, free 'snack' lunch with guest speaker for the members of MFC - hosted by none other than Robbo the Robertson, with Bernie Vince. Very pleasant. Order tickets in Aug from the Members dept at the MFC.)

Sadly if the attendance isn’t as good as we hope it’ll likely be because of the MFC reserved areas. For whatever reason they never seem to be filled and I always notice it on QB where the southern stand and Ponsford stand bottem level always have empty patches.

Last week against North, the vacant spaces in the 'reserved' sections were almost entirely vacant for the whole game, forcing those who attended to sit clustered in small spaces and in general, well away from the facilities (if these were open, as most were not open), and good views of the ground -  the two scoring ends, and the light.

Surely it is time if these 'exclusively priced' elite areas are blank and deserted by half-time of match, MFC Members and others of the general admission (GA) public could be tactfully marshalled to utilise this vacant, yet cherished wasteland set aside for Ticketek profiteering at $50 per seat above GA seating charges.

There are many AFL/MCG marshalling employees at each exit who could manage this with little real effort.

The AFL needs to re-align itself to the people who support the game as most of these have been the backbone of football crowds for generations! It is a pathetic example of AFL waste, exclusivity and its hunt for the corporate dollar and influence.

Footy is our game; it is not theirs to 'control' or 'steer' for non-public relativities.

It's difficult for the club, they don't want to undervalue the seats by making them too cheap but at the same time I think it's important to have sections on the bottom southern stand filled.

A $5-10 members only additional match day fee (purchased at the membership tent) to allow access to that section (but not a reserved seat) would be perhaps a good way to go. You don't get a guaranteed seat as those who have paid for the specific seat get priority but people can find somewhere to sit and fill the area up.

Just my thoughts at least.

From memory I think it’s about $220 per adult for the 11 Home Games (its about $1000+ for two adults and a variety of 3 kids/concession. (I am a good dad! Ha!)

The 11 Home Games general admission membership is $221. If you're sitting in M51, that's the Demon Seats Plus Open Air package, that's $429 for a single adult.

Richmond today announced 90,000 members

Together with the reserved seat revenue they must be swimming in cash

Memberships should also be calculated on profit made - think the Tigers would also do well  on that figure. We could learn a lot from Tigers when it comes to revenue raising thru memberships.

The demographics of our membership would suggest you are not alone - it’s a shame we did not have a process in place to assist our long-term members with some sort of upgrade for staying loyal for so long. This is where the business community could help.

think there is cheaper options for reserved seats.  I've got 11 game + reserved sets and iirc I payed about $50 extra for the seats. They are in the open in the northern stand (richmond side) and right next to the members (M50) i'm close to the wing. I asked for the rearmost seats so i'm just at the boundary of the undercover ones, so if it rains i can quickly move back a couple of rows as there is always spares.

The problem with that is that Richmond members are not what I call normal people.  It must include their escorts.

It’s a business group ( that actively assist in raising money ) we tried to do the same at the MFC - because the Tiger group raises $1.5 million + approximate per year and there is less than 100 of them.

The benefits of a group like this are endless - great way to keep players that other clubs target, very social, always easy to tap them on the shoulder for funds for medium size quickly implemented projects.

But such is life

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
