It took Richmonds medicos to find that Trengove still had problems.
Amateur hour at the Demons.

I admit my recollection of all that is fuzzy, but is it not possible that the MFC doctors knew there was a problem but we were hardly likely to tell Richmond that and hoped they wouldn't find out.  Not very ethical, but.....  Or is this interpretation incompatible with the know sequence of events  at the time?

I thought he actually re-injured it during the medical testing, that potentially they got him to put his foot through some examinations (stress testing etc.) he wasn't quite ready for which then meant he wasn't traded and wasted another 6 months recovering.

Interesting.

But answer me this:

If the above was the case, why on earth would the medicos have given Jack the green light to play knowing that he was doing so in pain, and therefore at risk of developing a stress reaction or even fracture?

It seems mind bogglingly stupid if you ask me.

It's pretty uncommon for that sort of thing to happen but it would've been a case of viney's determination vs risk. In the end they would probably admit that he needed a bit more time off it but it's more one of those things that can either work or not depending on the player's individual body. Viney has shown to return from injury well and 'heal' quickly, so I think that would have been part of the reasoning.

I go to most games with a friend's wife who's a physio and had the same opinion as NtG when she heard he was playing the Port game. 'He'll injure something else' was her quote.

I guess it was risk-reward and I didn't mind them playing him against Port but he couldn't walk after that game and they should've held him out of the North game, likewise the GWS game the next week when it was clear he was struggling and the opposition was always going to be too good. Anyway, they obviously kept taking the risk and hopefully it doesn't impact long term.

Selwood was the same with his injury this year as well. Must be pretty hard to tell those guys no but they really should.

So Richmond ruined Trenners' career is what you're saying? It's Adam Maric all over again. That kid had such a happy future and look what they did to the poor lad.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
