Dirts 429 Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 Is this guy worth a look. Has speed and is young. Sure Lewis will give the heads up. Could be a three way deal or pick swap. 1 Quote
Dee-licious 1,954 Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 Listen - I like him and have liked him in his draft year (was on the opposite wing to Z Jones and they dominated outside together). What Hartung does well is receive the ball and run. We dont have a lot of those players so the right price might be the way to go. The issue is that whilst he is a good kick - he seems to have not used it that well in games at the Hawks. A 3rd round pick and I'd jump at it. Quote
Lord Travis 10,819 Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 Good endurance runner, good pace and agility, average decision making and skills. He does suit our needs and would be good depth if we could get him cheap. He comes from a good successful environment and has a few years in the system now. Depends if the Hawks are just looking to off-load him cheap or wanting to get value out of him. Wouldn't offer anything higher than a 3rd rounder. Quote
Little Richard 6,265 Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 Haven't been a big fan over time, but he is showing steady improvement and runs all day. Worth a look perhaps at the right price. Quote
dl4e 5,851 Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 I think it would be 50/50 whether he would be in the best 22. Quote

Nasher 33,686 Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 Suspicious of players who never seem to establish themselves in their existing sides. Very few go on to become solid contributors elsewhere - the likes of Michie, Newton and so forth make me wary, although I accept Hartung is a much better player than those guys and has actually got some AFL runs on the board. 1 Quote
demoniac 1,337 Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 No. Very definition of a list clogger. Quote
Dr evil 1,185 Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 He seems a lot like billy stretch. He’s okay on the inside and outside but not really good enough to lock down a spot as either. Quote

Can't imagine the chances of getting anyone better at that pick is that high. Quote
TeamPlayedFine39 8,525 Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 Seems to be a poor man's Tom Scully - lightly built, runs all day (and then some) but not damaging with his ball use. Hawks couldn't possibly be wanting much for him... 1 Quote

Better talent across the list, whether that be at the top or bottom, will improve training standards and competition for spots. Is Hartung the right fit? Probably not based on his size, tackling pressure, and low levels of contested possession. 3 Quote
ignition. 1,478 Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 I use to find him quite intriguing, but in recent times I had forgotten about him. On the plus side he'd be coming from a system with training standards pushed by Hodge, Roughead, Mitchell (previous), and Lewis (previous). Be memory he has excellent foot skills as well as endurance and pace. So on face value, he seems to fit the bill. However, looking up his deficiencies he seems to lack the ability to win contested ball and tackle, which just won't fly. Is he currently in contract or about to be delisted? At most, he is worth a conversation between Taylor, Viney, and co. as a rookie selection. Quote

YesitwasaWin4theAges 6,823 Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 4th rounder, minimum pay if there is nothing else out there. Id have to say yes, if it doesn't work out after 2 years He's gone, nothing lost nothing gained we move on. Quote
DeeSpencer 26,675 Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 177cm and not getting any bigger or harder at it and butchers it. Goodwin has said he doesn't categorise midfielders as inside and outside, although I don't fully agree with that I can see the game shifting from the Hawks style of getting it out to runners to a more consistent run of players across the field. Inside mids without pace were found out this year as the game got faster. We really need some pace and endurance in the midfield mix but I don't think we are that desperate are we? If we want a running machine type isn't there one out there with either size or skills (if not both). 1 Quote

pitmaster 3,592 Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 This is such a misguided thread. Hartung is one of my benchmarks for Hawthorn struggling in future. Wish they were keeping him because he is no good under pressure. A waste of space. Quote

MadAsHell 4,217 Posted October 18, 2017 Posted October 18, 2017 Less then 24 hours left in trade period. Worth throwing Pick 47 to Hawthorn for this guy and see what we can do with him??? Quote
