Jumping Jack Clennett 1,825 Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 Domestic issues at the "family club". Sacking the CEO, and a longterm board member quitting. I feel so sorry for them. One bad year on the field and the knives come out.
ThreeOneSix 954 Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 They had staff turnover last year with Fagan leaving to take the job at Brisbane. Many assistant coaches left Hawthorn before, during and after their most successful period. When Kennett stepped down years ago Hawthorn gotten stronger. So this is nothing new to Hawthorn. They are hardly going to fall off just because a couple of people got the sack.

rjay 25,428 Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 It's going to be interesting to see how they sort this out. It was obvious from day one that the CEO had a bit to learn going by her press conference. It seemed she addressed the playing group & got involved in footy issues & we know where that ends up. They realised they had a problem and took action albeit 5 months after the appointment. Now the board member who resigned is another case. Only making assumptions here but I think there would be a bit of unrest at Waverley in how they've lost Mitchell, Lewis and now Hodge in the last 2 seasons. Hodge must be a bitter pill for many members & looking at their performances this year the younger players played much better when he was on the ground. Again as we know that kind of experience is precious. Clarkson could be a problem without Fagan or Evans around to temper things. He's certainly had an interesting approach to rebuilding the list. Maybe the board man wasn't happy with how the CEO selection was handled & if he wasn't the members should be when they realise they missed the opportunity to get Evans back to the club. I think by the morning dial a quote Kennett should have stoked the fire, be interesting to hear from Jeffrey. Wonder if he will throw his hat in the ring. Everything is great when you're winning Premierships but the problems soon surface when you're not.
Bates Mate 4,520 Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 I'll take 4 flags in 10 years followed by board unrest anyday

Diamond_Jim 12,778 Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 Very strange job being a CEO at a football club. What other CEO has no say in how the factory (the football department) is run and then has another body (the AFL) telling them what they can and can't do. Not to mention high profile chairpersons. It really is closer to being a COO given the lack of decision making power.
Ouch! 2,276 Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 .... 5 months Pffft, try harder Hawks Paul MacNamee didn't last 4 with us!

Ouch! 2,276 Posted October 4, 2017 Posted October 4, 2017 A mate of mine just visted the Hawthorn Museum yesterday. I told him he needed to find a nice place to store their ex-CEO. .... didn't expect him to let out Kennett from the Fossil exhibition though
red&blue1982 255 Posted October 4, 2017 Posted October 4, 2017 Is it just me, or does Jeff Kennet make Hawthorn colours even uglier?
puntkick 325 Posted October 4, 2017 Posted October 4, 2017 Bet Mark Evans is hunting Clarcko hard now !

Maldonboy38 6,436 Posted October 5, 2017 Posted October 5, 2017 The Hawks have shown a very high standard of excllence and resilience since 2004, starting when Ian Dicker was in charge. I can see them coping with this mess easily. I am actually tipping them for the top 8 next year, even though their list is ful of holes and experience now. The club is an outstanding model of a modern, functional business and sport entity. Kennett is a difficult one. An abrasive bully by nature, but my goodness he gets the job done. However, with Fagan and other culture-managers gone, there is no one left to man manage the abrasive people like Kennett and Clarkson. From memory they even got rid of their chaplain who was culturally influential. Watch this space.
demoniac 1,337 Posted October 5, 2017 Posted October 5, 2017 Key issue for the Hawks is getting a CEO and Footy Department head who can say no to Clarkson. If Fagan and Evans were still at the Hawks they would likely have said no to Crazy Clarko's desire to get the Jaeger O'Meara at any price. Interesting times ahead for Hawks with many of their fans, and perhaps their rent a quote new old President, expecting Hawks will automatically return to Premiership contention. Last time Kennett took over Presidency they already had Hodge, Mitchell, Franklin and Roughead on their list. They don't have that elite young talent this time round and the pressure will be on O'Meara, and therefore Clarkson, if the former does not start playing elite footy next year after 3 forgettable injury prone years.

hemingway 7,633 Posted October 5, 2017 Posted October 5, 2017 Clarkson and Kennett. It won't end well. A mistake to go back to the past with Jeff. He should have had the good sense to say no.
