Watt are we going to post about with out Jack!

There will be no internet to post on when Jack leaves. The global financial system will collapse, planes will fall from the skies, and we'll all be running around eating each other's flesh.

Coming from Perf I'm sure you'd go with white.

It’s a little bit too ‘out there’ for Perf.

In WA we just deal with blacks and whites mainly.

Do they mix the white collar criminals with the former footballers? Or did Bondy get to build his own Gaol, name it after himself and then claim it off his tax?

There's a lesson in this. Hard work and steady preparation can only get a forum thread so far. To achieve genuine success, you need contributors with the finishing skills and class of BBO.

Helping us march onwards and upwards to the triple ton. C’mon D-Landers, let’s do this!

Jack Watts. An enigma. And one whose plight provokes an enigmatic and emotional response from so many of us.

My 2 cents. Seven years of either ordinary or inconsistent footy - punctuated by flashes of excellence generally around contract renewal time - and then one and a half years (2016-17) of sustained decent stuff, the latter almost befitting of a no.1 draft pick (yes, we can’t ignore the significance of that investment and the burdensome expectations it has brought - on him, the club and, in a funny way, on all of us).

Over the 9-year ‘journey’ (the most hackneyed word at the MFC right now), I must admit I had hoped for more from the blond-haired man in the red and the blue. Do we, the MFC, owe him anything for his loyalty (and popularity) and efforts? I have this nagging feeling it’s the other way round - that he owes us a few more years of his best footy. Clearly, we’re not gonna get that. Maybe we never would have.

On over half a million bucks a year, from all reports. Not a bad gig. He’ll be alright, wherever he goes.

As to the increasingly eyebrow-raising comparisons in this gargantuan thread - Watts v T Lynch, Watts v A Goodes and, heaven help us, Watts v R Flower - let’s not trespass into the realm of absurdity.

Having been fortunate enough to see a lot of Tulip in the last 7-8 years of his career, I’m afraid to say that JW’s absolute best does not come close. There are no similarities. None. If one could quantify and personify Robbie’s pace, grace, flair, determination, courage both in the air and on the ground, evasive skills - skills in general, the whole bloody suite - they would be like a colossus to JW’s garden gnome.

I got the impression that everything is still up in the air, which is amazing considering this has gone on for 10 days.

We have no offer from any club as to Jack’s worth yet.

Anything over 30 is junk in my view and if that is the offer i hope Jack doesn’t go..

it’s a Cold War Scenario so far

everyone is waiting....

30 at this point is a win... Melbourne could stuff this deal even more and we are forced to take pick 50.

Trading Watts is going to be one of the most instrumental, logical and positive things this Club has done for decades.

I’d trade him for pick 120.

I wonder if all your 8300 previous posts are as idiotic as this one

We can't seem to fully shake that Matt Jones guy from our club.

Anyone care to tell us who is who in photo. Picked out Watts, Trengove and Gawn. Who are the others?

We are not forced to take anything whatsoever. We can retain Watts unless we get a pick in the range that suits our needs.

Same.

If Jack only gets us a shitty trade it's got nothing to do with the negotiating abilities of the club and everything to do with the shitty performances onfield and off of Mr. Watts.

Clubs may want him, but they aren't stupid. 21st in the B&F says all you need to know.

How the mighty have fallen.

Yes trade him while he's playing good footy but bad mouth him so we get SFA in return.Good plan. And my point re Flower was about tackling and defensive effort-thats it.But in retrospect RF played in teams that could actually kick a drop punt to him whereas Watts leads go ignored in favour of a turnover kick.

Sadly, this won't happen, CB, as it seems that relationships have completely fallen away....

Geelong fans are bitter about receiving pick 19 for Motlop.

Can't wait to see what rubbish we get for the best set shot in the Competition.

Goodwin the Gambler , someone get him a shot of Melly quick.

Hoping to turn pro. But since you ask, I found your 'my way or the highway stance' on Jack Watts perplexing. You talk in absolutes and that's what I don't like. You say he was coasting, but he was also injured and returned having to play catch up. Prior to his injury he was plugging holes left right and centre including rucking. You've also put words into his mouth, quote included. Do you know his state of mind in respect to being chosen number 1? I'm doubting it. In respect to loyalty, clearly he hasn't wanted to go. He is being forced out or so we are to believe by the comments made. Where's the 'BS' there?

I do get that it's a business but, to my mind, you've effectively labelled him a failure who chooses when to compete and when not to. I don't see it that way, acknowledging he has limitations. 'Stay or go. I don't mind either' is a strange comment in respect to a player who has been a good servant to the club.

The Sylvia Plath gag was shite. That bit you got right.

Yes, I do think he has coasted for all of his career. Just doing enough to keep his spot on the list, and not a lot more. I have no doubt that he loves the club and is hurting that the club has fallen out of love with him, but his love for the club never stopped him taking the easy path too many times. And I see this as just another time. Staying would be the hard thing. It would require that he gives 100% on and off the field, and prove the football dept wrong. It would mean taking ownership of his efforts. Leaving is easy. New start, new life, a nice little honeymoon period before Port (or whoever) begin asking the same questions of him we are asking now. And not for one moment do I believe that Goodwin and co would be shopping him around if they thought there was any chance of him becoming the footballer he should be. But they don't. So he is on the market.

'Stay or go' - if he stays then it means he wants to prove the doubters wrong, and we will get a better player out of it. If he goes then we haven't really lost much, and have an example of what not to do to the younger talent. Either way I do hope it is a wakeup call to him. He has too much talent to end up a shoulda coulda player.

199 pages... one of the most emotive posts ever.

Port get Jack Watts in exchange for a packet of chips and MFC pays for the chips. Weak MFC.

Goodwin and Mahoney talk about Character and Standards.  They have eroded theirs and MFC more than Watts ever could or did.  Surely they should disciplined Watts or taken on the challenge to again get the best out of Watts. Roos did.

Instead they market Watts as a disruptive fickle type. Really!!  Watts has been loyal when others like Scully & Frawley walked away. Watts has always had the best intent for MFC.

Others have made decisions to move on club favourites.  Woewodin. Spalding. Green. J-McDonald. Those decisions all failed and eroded club, player and supporter morale. It’s salary cap and personalities that have led to this.

I am looking for top 4 in 2018. Goodwin has the players to deliver it. It’s his acid test.

I could not agree more

Here is a quote in support of your proposition.

Coaches who can outline plays on a blackboard are a dime a dozen. The ones who win get inside their player and motivate. Vince Lombardi

In the player/coach relationship - its the coach who has failed, if they cant motivate the player with talent.

but then again.......

One thing that has been consistent since we drafted Jack Watts has been our mediocrity and Jack Watts being Jack Watts. Time to move on in both regards.

Please do not compare trading Jack Watts to de-listing James McDonald.

One was a heart and soul captain who squeezed every bit of talent out of his body.

The other is a highly talented, but flakey player who doesn't seem to understand what is required to be a top AFL player.
