Too all those telling other posters & supporters to "stop getting ahead of ourselves", "theres still one more game to win", "we still need to beat Collingwood" I understand all that but let other posters dream of September and talk about it, we haven't had this chance for 11 years and if for some reason we miss out at least we all got to enjoy this end to the season with us still in the hunt. We aren't the players or coaching staff, what we say & post on here has absolutely no bearing or influence on the playing group, coaches or the result of games so just let those who want to know how we buy finals tickets, who we'll play, when we'll play, who'd we play if we won the first final... We are posters on a forum for godsake, let's all just embrace this time were in and if you don't wish to get involved thats fine but don't tell others they can't look that little further ahead and dream of September

I agree JV.

I for one will be bloody delighted when/if we make finals. I refuse to be worried about who we play and if we lose, I want to just take a moment to enjoy it and enjoy the fact that we are no longer a rabble!

although Im not actually sure how Ill react to Melb getting to finals/being successful

Ive been a Dee's supporter too long to get ahead of myself. But that's just me :)

But I agree DD once we are a confirmed finalist I wont care either.

Make finals....... mission accomplished for 2017..   then on  to 2018.       Of course would love to win a finals game..  but getting there will do me for 2017...  where do I sign for 2018

Except we haven't made finals yet and we could very well miss them. A loss to Collingwood isn't the end of the world but an Eagles win against Adelaide isn't that outrageous. It's their last game at Subi and Adelaide already have a top 2 finish stitched up. That's not to say they'll throw the match or won't play to win but you need to consider the variables. If we lose, West Coast has that added incentive to win alongside beating the top team AND playing its last game at Subi, a ground that holds immense sentimental value for what has been a very successful club.

I'll embrace it if we make it. WE HAVEN'T MADE IT YET.

EDIT: Also, WC is not making up that much percentage. It's very reasonable to hold off on "embracing" something we dont actually have.

Your missing my whole point, we know the ins & outs of what could happen.. I'm not saying embrace finals but to embrace the talk and possibility of finals....

Finals have been a possibility since round 1 though. We're in the business end and talking about them with 1 weeks to go is just silly. We should be talking about Collingwood.

It's true we should be grateful we are even in this position. We could easily be in positions 8-12 now on the ladder and have less or no chance. Even worse we could have gone backwards on wins from last year. We should be very glad.

This

Agree JV7 with your words "let other posters dream of September and talk about it, we haven't had this chance for 11 years".  I am loving finally being able to get caught up in the September buzz.  It is perhaps made even that bit sweeter by my partners team, the dorks, not being involved.  Our house has far too many poo & wee premiership posters.......

It certainly doesn't have the '87 feel to it.

We are not hitting the finals being probably the form team of the comp. Will be excited to watch a final, but I'm expecting an interstate side to give us quite a mauling on current form. I am already having nightmares about facing the Swans in Sydney.

But agree it's nice to finally enter a weekend feeling optimistic.

Maybe a bit of hypnotherapy might help, ask Angus' mum, she knows a good one.

Only one team wins the flag - the other 17 teams and their fans have to focus on other positives. We've won more games than last year, our team is in the top 50% of the competition regardless of results next week.

IT IS time to get excited - not so much about whether the cards fall our way this weekend - rather its a massive stepping stone to an all out assault on the flag next year (assuming we don't have a WB type tilt at it this yr).

See I'm not falling for the whole "embrace something we dont have yet" thing, but I'd love to face Sydney because I think it'll be a great test and we'll push them. Maybe it's just me but I want to play the best possible team in finals.

Yeah look I see what you're saying but I choose to have my feet on the ground for now. I'm going to be more nervous this week than celebrations but that's just me. I've seen too many false dawns where people did start 'getting ahead of themselves' and all it ever did was leave a sour taste in the mouth.

Enjoy this time if you can, I admire you for it but it's not how I roll unfortunately. Yeah we may not have control on this board and what we say may not have any impact but all I have is my sanity and my everyday thoughts. I prefer to be grounded.

Not necessarily disagreeing with you FD but my memory of '87 is that the form we showed in the finals was far superior to the form we showed going into the finals.

We barely scraped into the finals and then went gang-busters against North and then Sydney.  We smashed North Melbourne in that Elimination final but were rank outsiders going into that game.

Even in the last round of the season we weren't expected to beat Footscray at their ground.  The Bulldogs were ahead of us on the ladder going into that last game and also had a lot to play for.

We were actually 7th going into that last round and also needed Geelong to lose to make it.

Fast forward to this season and we've been a realistic finals chance from the get-go.  The turning point was when we beat the Crows in Adelaide.  If we had have lost that round 8 clash it might have been curtains.

Our best form is decent.  We don't bring it every week because we're not that good(yet)

I remember the finals well. Attended both games.

I remembered us being in better form entering the finals. Could be wrong.

Geez we mauled Nth and Sydney. In front of huge crowds too. Great days.

Same (also including the Footscray game)

The form we showed against North in that Elimination final was a sight to behold.  I'd never seen the team play that well.  Ever.

I feel that this current team hasn't clicked into gear properly (yet) ... we almost certainly need to add some real pace & class but you never know.

Any sort of win against the Pies and we're in.  I actually like the fact that we need to get it done against that mob too.  Would make it all the more sweeter.

Could be a big crowd too.

I lived through '87 and as I've posted in a number of forums getting to the finals was the most exciting, all embracing sporting 6 weeks of my life. It had been 23 years, there was the Robbie factor, it was a final 5, not an 8, it was skin of the teeth every nail biting week in those 6 weeks - any loss meant the dream was over. No one really expected us to make it. Then the extraordinary events of Round 22 happened and everything fell into place. (If you can, check out a Tim Lane's "live" coverage of the events of Round  22 on the Winners on ABC - still sends goosebumps up my back). Then, there was was the Finals - I agree I have never seen any side, in any era, play any better than Dees did in week 1 or 2 of the 87 finals. Then there was the tragedy at Waverley and it was all over.

2017 for me is a bit different. If we do not make it will not because we did not dare to dream, it will because we had a golden opportunity to do something special and we just dropped the ball a couple of times (Norf x 2, Freo, Hawthorn).

Go dees versus the mortal enemy, and if that fails, for god sake, go Crows.

Look it certainly beats talking draft picks at round 22 that's for sure!

I feel so sorry for me too deebug.  And yes "those" posters really have only one use..... poo & wee wipes

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
