Next week we need to play as a final.

We are at our home ground and we need to reset what we have been putting into practice all year. 

Imho i would play hogan on the ball

And get him the touch he needs.

Hopefully some of our players come back in

We lacked class and skill execution and were punished. The stats are so similar too. I'm actually impressed by the endeavour of most of the team but players were asked to do more than they have been asked to do previously and they couldn't do it. 

I hope they don't 'rush' Viney back for Port. We should make a good account of ourselves. If we win, we should get a home final. If we lose, the finals are still ours to lose, but a loss against NM, StK, Bris, and Coll - teams we should beat - and it will be a percentage game.

Great to see JKH finally look at home at AFL level.  Thats why he was given an extra year, there is something to work with now its obvious hes a midfielder.

28 possessions and 5 tackles (2nd most for the Demons) is a nice nights work.  His impact on the game can be debated but hes trending upwards and thats what matters.

This was the most important thing for mine to take from the game. It was clear that Hogan and Gawn had much improved confidence and touch by end of game that hopefully they build into next week. This as well as the return of Watts and Tyson and likely return of Viney should allow us to attack the Port game in a much better way.

I agree PA, I also am really happy to see JKH back in the red and blue, and I really want him to play good footy.

But it's funny how we look at stats to rate a game, I can't remember all JKHs stats but I remember 3 when we were pushing in the 3rd and final qtrs. (I am not blaming the loss on JKH please don't confuse my point)

But there was a handball and 2 kicks from JKH which were poorly executed and all were turnovers which resulted in Adel goals.

The blokes still a kid in AFL footy terms I don't want to crucify him, but stats don't always give an accurate portrayal of how well someone played

Cheers to all those who gave the feedback as well, much appreciated.  Sounds like we just lacked the cattle and the composure at key moments to stay in the game.  Lots of players to return and we get another crack next week on our home deck.  Nothing to get ourselves down about.

A lot of wrist slashing for mine. Comments on ANB and O Mac are particularly harsh. They were both fine. ANB is using the ball a hell of a lot better and it stood out. I actually thought he was in our top five or six players on the night.

Okay everyone who is down in the dumps lets compare our situation injury wise and compare it to our opposition last night.

Id like to see Adelaides perfomance with that situation..

Everyone chill out, next week is a huge game..  Like the Sydney game, put it behind us and move on! We ger players back at the right time of year we are fine.

I watched from home and thought we never looked like winning.

Crows smashed us in contested footy around the ground, we were unable to hold the ball across half forward (the conditions made us look pretty amateurish - fumbles dropped marks etc)

Which really played in to Adels game style. They want to rebound, and we allowed them to rebound all night. At 3 qtr time we looked a sneaky chance which is credit to the boys on how hard they played, but the reality was we turned the ball over too easily and couldn't stop Adel's rebound on the fast Darwin track,

Viney won't play next week imo. Wouldn't risk him.

Not the worst idea, although it would be contingent on who comes back. Dom and Viney coming back provides the luxury of Trac going forward. 

Overall though I'd leave Hoges forward. He was getting into good positions, he just wasn't holding his marks. They were starting to stick by the fourth quarter.

I thought we were quite good considering the players missing and we were clearly out classed. 

Hogan and gawn looked to be finding a little bit of touch late in the game and with blokes coming back I am backing us to knock off port at the g 

Hogan  has ALWAYS aside from all his present very unfortunate issues needs to badly address his body language, accountability and the 1%ers. Switch him to CHB for rest of the season or send him to Casey. It brings the team down.

It also suggests to me that, despite what Goodwin said about playing in Darwin (with his responsible senior coach's hat on), that playing in Darwin is not remotely commensurate with playing at the G. For us, at least.

It's plainly not a 'home' game that we derive any benefit from other than financially. The results over the years speak for themselves.

Given that there are more Crows and Port supporters up there than MFC fans, we don't even get the benefit of the crowd.

It might be that this fixture costs us getting into the 8 or a higher spot within the 8. I'd like to know the financials on missing a final or two as compared with selling this fixture, given that were no longer a struggling bottom 2 club.

I just hope we use the financial gain from selling this fixture this year to land Lever at the end of the year, so that we possibly get some benefit from dropping an otherwise very gettable 4 points.

No they didn't.  We competed extremely well in that area.

Crows won in one place and one place only: rebound transition. I keep seeing people say they smashed us in the middle and contested ball. They didn't at all. Stats prove that and if you watched the game you'd have seen we won quite a lot of ball. Admirable considering Crows are no.1 for contested ball and we're missing 2 of our top contested ball winners.

They won by moving the ball from defense to attack with ease. It was uncontested ball they smashed us in, not contested.

The thing is that it happened after he crossed the boundary though.  I actually think that is a bit of a deficiency in the rules at present Re what can occur and doesn't count once the boundary is crossed.

Happy with the endeavor from the players but disappointed with the result causing a dint in our percentage. Didn't expect us to win I was hoping we could finish closer when we were 3 goals down with 10 mins to go.

Hogan had a slightly better touch but his second efforts are non existent. Needs to find another gear or three.

The umps can pay it if they want. They chose not to.

4 goals in time on in the first qtr and a few junk goals in the last.

We were surprisingly in touch most of the night despite their easy transition goals and more frustratingly our own mistakes. Can't tally the number of dropped marks and fumbles at critical times.

Adelaide don't scare me as a side. They might win a home final but won't likely win the flag.

Our first four inside 50's for the match went as follows and are indicative of the way we enter our forward-line in many games:

- Frost had the first entry and kicked to a two on one situation, Lever takes the mark. He had short options including an obvious ANB lead in space. 

- Second one was Kent kick inside 50 which showed zero composure, tried to kick the leather off the ball. Crows immediately turn it into a counter-attack which results in a point scored. Lucky.

- Third attempt comes from Lewis. Beautiful tap from Gawn to Lewis in space. Kicks to the a one-on-one which favours Talia. Ball spills and T-Mac fumbles what is an easy ground ball. Interestingly, Walker picks up a beautiful half-volley from a miss-kick in the middle of the ground when Crows counter. Only highlights T-Mac's mistake. They eventually score.

- Hogan nice drifting mark about 60 out. Kicks to a one-on-one with Garlett. Didn't wait for a better option. Ball spills, Garlett has a chance and misses.

 

These are the first four of countless examples of how hard we make it for ourselves. Whether it be a missed kick, handball, a wasted inside 50, a fumble, a non-effective spoil or a dropped mark. We were committing these things far more often than Adelaide for the entire game. I don't buy even for one second that they smashed us around the contest physically. 

We had more entries inside 50. They were cleaner. We have less-skilled defenders. They have far stronger and better skilled ones. 

The list is endless. And regardless of the personnel we have in against Port, I want to see a much higher level of football being played from our players.

Aside from our competitiveness which can't be questioned, we were so poor in all other aspects of the game.

40k at the G actually accounts for about a third of what we earn from a full house in Darwin, factoring in AFL funding, sponsoring deals for the match, etc etc
