    West Coast aren't beating Adelaide. They are as soft and as likely to drop clutch games as we are. Even with the outs, Crows are too good for them.

    I know falling over the line in a last team standing battle isn't how we all dreamed of it happening during the week, but if that's how it happens, I for one will take it over missing out.

    Probably trying to convince myself just as much as anything. Saves me from having my day ruined by stressing about it tomorrow. I'd rather be confident and wrong than packing it waiting for the impending doom. Weekends are far too short for this s***.

    They won't be even one percent more pi55ed off than most long suffering supporters ?

    Saints aren't an issue. Assuming tigers score around 70 points, saints need to win by 120 (192-70 to be exact). Not happening. West coast is the only threat.

    I don't think for one moment any of the Adelaide players will be taking it easy. Almost certainly a spot in a grand final is at stake.

    Technically so is Essendon, but I'm resigned to the fact that Fremantle will get absolutely smashed tomorrow. After all, most teams with finals on the line put away the teams they should.

    We're just unique at throwing away our chance at playing finals.

    The bookies know more than we do. Adelaide will have late outs as they have nothing to play for. They certainly won't put their bodies on the line and risk injuries.

    Gill gets his wish of the last game of the season determining the top 8. Too bad the result will be a blowout by half-time.

    Crows won't risk entering a finals series on the back of two losses. Momentum is going to be the difference in this finals series and right now they have it, they won't want to lose it. 

    Still a very strong side on paper and the eagles have been less than convincing yet somehow being talked about as though they're a top 4 side

    The old path is looking very rocky and the gate is barred.

    Perhaps we can squeeze below that bottom bar and get into that beautiful green paddock.

    Not sure as a mare that we really want to go into a paddock full of stallions but who knows??

    melbournes percentage is approximately 1.0522

    so the required score for WC is:

    WC = 16.28+1.0522  x  Adelaide's score

    I wouldn't be surprised to see Betts, Sloane (and/or others) omitted, especially if their first final is on the Thursday night.  Both those guys have spent time on the bench in the last few weeks with injury concerns. 

    I'm guessing Adelaide will talk to the AFL before the game and will know if their final is the Thursday night.  If so they are more likely to rest players.  Being minor premiers they may even get a choice when to play that final. 

    Adelaide will want to win to keep momentum and players want to cement their spot but there is no imperative for them to send their best side or to risk injury.

    It'll be a team effort with lever and co, they'll be fine. 

    Who crows still have a far more dangerous forward line. I can't see them scoring less than 100 points so the eagles will need minimum 121 to overtake us. 

    Its not just about winning. Beating the top side by four goals is a big ask. Sydney couldn't do it with talia off for a big chunk of the game and tex having absolutely no impact

    Again we may be at the mercy of Adelaide loosing to the Eagles (who will probably play with the most venom they have all year), but it is not because they want to loose. 

    Actually a few fringe players in the crows side may help us, as they will be desperate to win a finals spot, while the regulars are more likely to go through the motions (lacking intensity) which would be far more damaging to their chances of winning.  

    For the record we blew our finals chance when we allowed Brisbane to come back from 5+ goals, and of course not beating Collingwood just confirmed we don't deserve it (though ironically nor do the eagles, saints, or dogs)

    If you want to persist with conspiracy theories, then here's one: The crows will do what they can to manufacture a loss, not because the fear meeting the Dee's in the finals, but because they don't want to see a bottom 8 side gaining a huge confidence boost (and easy path) beating up on an insipid 8th place Demons.

    Reality is we lost; and now will likely suffer the consequences because, we lost

    Go the Crows, 

    or even more satisfying Go the Dockers!!!!

    For those looking for more positives, it's still a strong Adelaide side who are also a high scoring team, and with a possible low intensity contest likely, then this could equate to a high scoring game meaning the Eagles need to win by more

    Very good post. If we dont want it badly enough whats the point? I expect the Crows to play hard but Eagles should be too good with their outs.

      The Gold Coast Suns find themselves outside of the top eight for the first time since Round 1 with pressure is mounting on the entire organisation. Their coach Damien Hardwick expressed his frustration at his team’s condition last week by making a middle-finger gesture on television that earned him a fine for his troubles. He showed his desperation by claiming that Fox should pick up the tab.  There’s little doubt the Suns have shown improvement in 2025, and their position on the ladder is influenced to some extent by having played fewer games than their rivals for a playoff role at the end of the season, courtesy of the disruption caused by Cyclone Alfred in March.  However, they are following the same trajectory that hindered the club in past years whenever they appeared to be nearing their potential. As a consequence, that Hardwick gesture should be considered as more than a mere behavioral lapse. It’s a distress signal that does not bode well for the Queenslanders. While the Suns are eager to remain in contention with the top eight, Melbourne faces its own crisis, which is similarly deep-seated but in a much different way. After recovering from a disappointing start to the season and nearing a return to respectability among its peer clubs, the Demons have experienced a decline in status, driven by the fact that while their form has been reasonable (see their performance against the ladder leader in the Kings Birthday match), their conversion in front of goal is poor enough to rank last in the competition. Furthermore, their opponents find them exceptionally easy to score against. As a result, they have effectively eliminated themselves from the finals race and are again positioned to finish in the bottom half of the ladder.

    • REPORT: Port Adelaide

      Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

      Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
