Oliver is no 'stager'!

Featured Replies

We are about to see the old rule that got the Essendon players off before the AFL tribunal called out

AFL did not call Oliver which then raises a presumption he would not have supported AFL's case

Amazing

He's going to get off here schofield.

What annoyed me is grant thomas and others saying he has made it worse by not admitting it....he said he shouldnt have fallen over and was sort of scared...isnt that him admitting he shouldnt have done it?

Finding the attacks on this 19 yo's character from all corners quite distressing

agreed....especially when they were all pretty soft on Rance who actually DID unashamedly dive. Oliver actually got hit. Fark me....its times like this I wish we had an Eddie. Who would totally [censored] them all up. We're still an easy club to beat up on off the field.  Lyon just added to the farce with is comments when we needed allies speaking up.

Yes ive been staggered by some of the media boys club comments.

With a bit of luck the tribunal may just conclude that grasping at 6 straws does not make a case.  Sad that there is no QC to defend Oliver who is effectively being charged.

Agree. I would love PJ to come out and support Clarry here.

This can follow a player forever.

Out of interest, I wonder what said QC charges per hour for his services?

Good strong words from Lewis about Clarry being a very strong kid who wouldn't go to ground for no reason.

Told all the keyboard warriors to shut up basically.

Huh, what words from Lewis. Did I miss something?

If that's worth a week I'll go he. In no way shape or form should a bloke get a week for that.

Clayton put a bit of GST on a nothing push and it's all blown up.

How can Houli and Schofield both get 2 weeks, throw it out and let's move on

So you are happy for player's to be elbowed in the chin on the field. Should be a week at least.

At the end of the day it may be better for Oliver if the suspension does get lifted. If its 2 weeks this whole thing is going to be even bigger.

Pro bono. Media coverage worth the time.

If it's 0 weeks, then the public will be adamant Oliver staged. Surely that's the worst possible outcome for him and for footy.

Agree. 2 weeks will shut everyone up except those in WA.

I don't see many people on either side having their minds changed by tonight's hearing.

No, I don't suppose they will.

Schofield will get off. QCs earn big bucks for a reason. I'll bet Ivan Milat wished he had the AFL Tribunal to appeal to.

If what's been put on here are the sum total of the QC's arguments, they're ridiculously flimsy.  Hopefully the Tribunal see through them, although I'm not holding my breath.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
