Nasher 33,651 Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 Navicular injury. http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2017-06-13/smith-to-miss-rest-of-season Feel for him - do all that work to get here then have your first season on the rookie destroyed with two major injuries. Ridiculously unlucky, but that's footy I suppose. All the best with the recovery.
Pates 9,697 Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 Is the navicular that horrible bone that's cruelled Trenners career? All the best him, I was really looking forward to seeing him push for senior selection.

Ted Lasso 19,586 Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 Oh wow! I'm sort of glad he will have the close support of jack who is a ripping bloke and has been though it
Bitter but optimistic 22,289 Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 FMD. He wouldn't want to waste his money buying a lotto ticket.
Maldonboy38 6,435 Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 Sad news. Thought he looked likely. Hope he can get back well for preseason 2018.
Drunkn167 5,093 Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 Bull no! He has worked incredibly hard to get to where he is, played some damn good footy this season, managed to cop a knee to the ribs and now this. How unlucky can a guy get. He is one of the most down to earth and sincere blokes you will ever meet. Here's hoping he manages to get back to his feet as soon as possible, and I wish the MFC will keep him on for at least another year if not 3!

Very tough and unfortunate initiation for Bull, but he is made of the right stuff. He couldn't be at a better place than the Melbourne Football Club, where he'll be given every opportunity to make it.
RalphiusMaximus 6,112 Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 Horrible news. I really thought he could make a contribution this year and push for an upgrade. He's had shocking luck this year.
radar 1,867 Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 Brother in law (Saint fan) taught him - said really nice kid.

Let's hope Tim Smith can, too.

Footy's a cut throat business, but it's hard to imagine them not giving him a second year at least. By picking him up in the first place, they've said "we reckon we can make you in to a player" - it makes the entire exercise a waste of time if they abandon him at the first bad injury. Unless of course their view on him as a player has drastically changed - but I can't see how it could have since he's barely been on the field. I'm very confident he'll be given his full measure of time. If I were the MFC list manager I'd be telling him now that his spot on the list for next year is safe, not to worry about it and just focus on getting the foot sorted.

When they picked him last year he was best available. This year they need to delist a minimum of 3 players and weigh up if best available is likely to be better in the long run than Bull with a navicular injury. I hope they keep him and think it is good for the culture of the club to stick by injured players but it is no certainty.

We will comfortably be able to find three or more players to turn over without delisting an injured first year rookie - I can count 5 without even stopping to think. Do rookie listed players count towards the three anyway? I thought the rule was you had to have at least three openings to participate in the National Draft.

Spoke to him at the recent Malvern open day and he was excited to be over his injury and then this. Hope we keep him on the list and I would be pretty confident we would and wish him all the best in recovery and for next season.

You can actually uplift rookies if that is what you want to do, But 3 changes is the required minimum.
