Im not sure what you've seen or heard but i heard Mahoney today say we were keen on Balic and they had nothing else in the works

I heard that. I'm saying I would be surprised if we don't do another deal before the end of trade period (other than for Balic). Something along the lines of Pick 27 & 35 for Lions pick 19.

What about 27 and 35 for Schache?

Freo apparently asking for pick 27 for Balic. Would maybe explain the hold up

Impey goes to Hawthorn for pick 33 and Freo are asking pick 27 for Balic !!

Tell'em I know where to get a good deal on some jousting sticks !!

I’m hoping Balic is a 4th rounder, or whatever we have leftover from other deals.  Think this will go down at the end of the period, rather than early.  I don’t think there will be other deals contingent on this.

I'd be very happy to see a series of 5 year contract extension announcements for several of our existing players such as Petracca, Oliver, Hogan, Hibberd and Hunt.

Our main challenge will be keeping the core of this squad together for the journey. Supplementing it with players like Balic is good, but we have more special talent on it already.

Lever and potentially a Gaff or Rohan type aside, I no longer think we need to trade our way to a flag. The players are already in da haus.

Yep I'd have a crack at Schache with what we have left (points up our sleeve).

In Dalhaus?

If Plapp and Vineys have the info pre docker and issues why not . Id trust em with my son although it would be a little intimidating bunking in the viney house!!  Father and son having a playfight after watching lone wolf mcquade .

I reckon so its a good  draft - hoping we land a first rounder somehow .

Does anyone know what the contract status of Isaac Smith is?

Extended his contact last season until end of 2020.

Freo will have seen how easily we caved in to Adelaide's lofty demand of 2 first rounders, and will want pick 27 for this guy, and we'll probably give it to them the way we negotiate.

Nothing more than pick 65 for Balic. Take it or leave it Freo. If not, then we'll pick him up in the draft. No other team would use a selection for him.

Don't confuse our desire for Lever with that for Balic.

Balic will get done for a later pick and it is probably already agreed. Might just be some posturing for the Dockers fans.

I dont doubt you Red.. you suggested many moons ago a deal was ripe and all but inked.. both parties on same page. It's not the highest priority trade for anyone. Id be worried if if was.

Viv Michie, Ben Newton, Ben Kennedy, Aiden Riley, and countless others. Not sure why this club keeps thinking it can make AFL players from other teams' state league players. We've proven time and again that we're not up to the task. Good luck to Balic if he comes on board, but the odds are well and truly against him.

At the time we brought them in we weren't making AFL players out of good draft picks either. The only question that needs to be asked is this: With whatever pick(s) we have to part to get any player, is there a better option either available to trade for or in the draft for the same value? So, if we trade for Balic with, say, a 3rd round pick, is he a better chance of success than the alternative?

I liked Balic as an option back in his draft year, but our picks were too high or too low to be a sensible match.

Interesting that we keep on cycling through these fringe midfielder options, and mostly in the midfield-forward slot - Kennedy, Bugg, Kent, Melksham, Harmes, Neal-Bullen, Kennedy-Harris, Jones, Newton, Michie.

I guess the club see it is a role that can be filled by non-star players, and where depth is important. Of those ten we've cycled through in just a few years, you'd only say Neal-Bullen and Melksham are convincingly in our best 22, but a couple of others are still prospects.

  • PREVIEW: Geelong

"It's officially time for some alarm bells. I'm concerned about the lack of impact from their best players." This comment about one of the teams contesting this Friday night’s game came earlier in the week from a so-called expert radio commentator by the name of Kane Cornes. He wasn’t referring to the Melbourne Football Club but rather, this week’s home side, Geelong. The Cats are purring along with 1 win and 2 defeats and a percentage of 126.2 (courtesy of a big win at GMHBA Stadium in Round 1 vs Fremantle) which is one win more than Melbourne and double the percentage so I guess that, in the case of the Demons, its not just alarm bells, but distress signals. But don’t rely on me. Listen to Cornes who said this week about Melbourne:- “They can’t run. If you can’t run at speed and get out of the contest then you’re in trouble.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit.
Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

For a brief period of time in the early afternoon of yesterday, the Casey Demons occupied top place on the Smithy’s VFL table. This was only made possible by virtue of the fact that the team was the only one in this crazy competition to have played twice and it’s 1½ wins gave it an unassailable lead on the other 20 teams, some of who had yet to play a game.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

In my all-time nightmare game, the team is so ill-disciplined that it concedes its first two goals with the courtesy of not one, but two, fifty metre penalties while opening its own scoring with four behinds in a row and losing a talented youngster with good decision-making skills and a lethal left foot kick, subbed off in the first quarter with what looks like a bad knee injury.
