Not singling you out Demon1858 but we go through this every year on here about this. There is a difference between Alice Springs & Darwin... It will be fine & 28 in Alice on Saturday. It's Darwin that's humid & slippery, just thought I'd throw it out their before everyone goes on about it

Point taken JV7. No probs

What??? He elbowed the north player in the face. At least 1 week. Possible 2

Thompson only got one for a much harder elbow to Dangerfields face in the same way a few weeks back. If he gets one then so be it but if he gets two then it is a travesty based on precedent.

and he couldn't make the distance from a 35m set shot at the city end

everyone seems to keep saying he is going to be good with longer development but i haven't seen much evidence of that. i checked hid tac stats for the 2 years he played tac and his figures were pretty minimal. makes one wonder why he was so well regarded at the draft. i'm getting a little bit nervous he might be a bust. i hope i'm wrong because one of our big problems is a real lack of tall kp players

I have had the same concerns but he was injured for much of his TAC years, ankle from memory.

Put another 10 kg on him and a year or two of development and I think he will be fine.

IN, Harmes and ANB

OUT, Salem and Weid.

prefer to go small that have Weid flapping about in the fwd line.  we had zero structure to our forward line aside from hannan presenting

All year changes have been kept to a minimum.

Salem will accept the week and Kent will have a rest

ANB and Melksham in I would like Harmes to come in but after a week as emergency the club often sends them back to Casey.

In light of reason events.

Out: Salem, Kent

In: Harmes, Stretch

Spot on.

I also think that the team is better off with Stretch in it.

What a pathetic statement....watts at best is a brilliant 3rd forward...wing & at the moment relief ruckman ...he is not a full forward as at times he had to play today against two of the best backman in the league....if we as supporters were told we'd win some amazing games ...lose some winnable games but always be in the game ...you would take it in a heartbeat....like it or not ...we are undermanned ...we are young & we have enormous upside...everyone is disappointed but to bag Watts after today's game is downright ridiculous. They were bigger...stronger...& just better on the day &  yet we still nearly pinched it...such an ill informed opinion

perfectly said.  some fans just cannot enjoy the ride at the moment.  sad gits.  I'm loving it.  I'm loving my Dees again.

This would be my choice, Melksham instead of Harmes would be a chance. Melksham played well for Casey and he will be back in the team at some stage.

Interesting. I have four certain ins and a fifth possibly.

And I have about six players whom we could omit, but obviously that can't happen.

As we've all commented, our tall situation is our biggest issue.

In terms of structure, the key thing to remember is that they have Lynch and Wright  and a rookie called Keegan Brooksby who may well get another game - that is three tall forwards. Against playing three bigs is that it is an evening game at a hot venue so it may not be a night for bigs - let's hope so because we've been hammered in that area without Gawn and Hoges, not to mention our back up Spencer.

My biggest issue is that both O-Mac and Weids are so youthfully underprepared that I can't see any point in playing both - even if that means we are going small - real small. T-Mac must join Frosty down back this week because of Lynch and Wright with Wags picking up Brooksby.

The question then is deciding which of O-Mac or Weids stays as our only tall forward because King is still developing (forget the fact that he was named in the best against Port as that was the old most courageous award being handed out). Hulett and Keilty were better last week apparently, but both need to show that for a few weeks to be considered. So that leaves one of O-Mac or Weids as a bare minimum.

Weids lack of agility and his lack of strength and positioning meant that he was easy fodder for Tarrant and Thompson to just bump him out or work him under the ball and you can see May or even Leslie carving him up. But Weids did have an impressive final quarter and against Adelaide he brought the ball to ground most times, even if he didn't win it and that really is all he has to do, although being fit enough to have a stint in the ruck would help. By contrast O-Mac had a howler and his lack of awareness makes him a liability down back, but maybe now is the time to play him as a forward - he was a junior there after all and he does have endurance - he just isn't mega quick. To be honest playing him up forward would be good for his development, just as sending Weids back to the magoos is also beneficial to his. We all get that neither is good enough yet, but we can't send both back until Hoges and Gawn return.

So my tip would be to take a risk and play O-Mac up forward and hope that the ball lands fortuitously in his lap early and we all know, or should know, that he is a very good kick.

The other changes are more clear cut. Salem is out suspended. Kent is out because he has stopped running with passion (not sure what is going on there) and Bugg makes room because when you have to go mega small up forward, you can only win with tackle pressure from the press and whilst Buggy can tackle with the best of them, he ain't quick.

That means I would retain Jeffy, who I am sure I saw a couple of times on Sunday (he may have been a late withdrawal though!) and who will be well suited to Traeger Park.

The four obvious ins are the three guys who were stiff to be excluded in the first place - Harmes, Neal-Bullen and Stretch - plus Melksham, who has worked his arse off in the magoos and deserves to show us all what he can do in the midfield with his endurance, rather than down back where he hasn't quite got it right.

The unlucky (I suspect) fifth player is Ben Kennedy, although both Watts and Jeffy are lucky to survive given their output on Sunday. BenK should be next cab off the rank for the Pies QB Monday game.

So my side is as follows - we have to run, pressure and be better on break, because we just ain't tall enough I'm afraid if it becomes a kick down the line game. And as I've said before, Goody has to switch his men around again - what is good at halftime may need a tweak - eg: Watts may need to be switched with Frosty if things are not working for them.

B: Jetta Frost Hibberd

HB: Hunt T-Mac Wagner

C: Stretch Oliver Melksham

HF: Viney O-Mac Hannan

F: Garlett Petracca Watts

Ru: Pederson Lewis N.Jones

Int: Vince, Tyson, Harmes, Neal-Bullen

We are a young side and we have an inexperienced coach with a good gameplan. Stretch, Melky, Harmes and ANB will all be fired up to show Goody erred by dropping them. Petracca has done his story in the HS, so his ego will be back down again after his North clobbering and we can expect him to be lively again like he was against Adelaide.

Ditto Hunt, who will be a week better off after his KO.

And Pedo should again be handy around the ground, although Witts will smash us in the hitouts.

But if Goody can somehow figure out a way to get Wattsy's confidence back up again and his hands on the pill, then we should win.

God pease no - not ANB or milkshake in. Both absolutely dreadful footballers. Prefer to give the goal umpires a run before those two. In fact the goal umpires tied together like a 3 legged race would be far more effective than those two.

Bugg needs to go - he cost us so dearly last week. Stretch or Harmes in. Or anyone but ANB (he is insipid in both his unforced errors and efforts) and I'd prefer even ANB before Milkshake.

Melksham is absolute rubbish, awful footballer, even Ess fans will tell you that.

And suddenly we're putting Essendon fans up as experts. P leeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease!

Melksham has been played middle/wing/ Hf at Casey, and has been in the bests his last 2 outings.  That would make a straight swap for Kent a winner.  He was not popular for his games down back, but forward might just be the trick.

Salem out - maybe Harmes gets a go.

Bugg out, and maybe ANB or BenKen in.

Do we swap Hulett for Weids to be a target that marks or makes contests?  Perhaps couldn't do any worse...  I think they will stick with the Weid though.

Yep and you would have been saying what a star he is if he had of kicked straight. It's football and sometimes that's what happens. At least he had 4 opportunities. There are a few others I'd be looking at before him. Kent kicked a goal and did very little else.                                                                         Had no contested possessions while Bugg had 8. Bugg also managed to kick a water bottle but I'm not sure that counts as a stat.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
