You're not suggesting that players can be things other than perfect or a dud are you?

Well it's pretty clear that if you're not perfect you're a dud.

It's cool that you don't acknowledge those of us who are in between.

Those who can both congratulate a player for their obvious growth and improvement over time, and also have the capacity to critique those who under-perform or do not show enough growth over time.

Fair suck of the sav, Steve, you're as guilty as any. You recently described OMac as a player with no strengths - how can that possibly be true for *any* player on an AFL list, let alone one who is a regular player in a competent team?

I think any person that watches as much footy as we tragics do is going to become biased over time and will only start seeing what they already believe to be true. The only difference between you and I is that I recognise the role bias plays when analysing from the outer and you don't.

Joeboy's analysis of Tyson in this thread isn't even a single game analysis, it's a three word declaration of where his bias lies.

But why would I have a bias against a player playing for the team I love? I don't understand what you're saying there. You think that I like looking for when and where Oscar will make a mistake? No, I watch the game in hope players make the right decision in scenarios more than they make the wrong one. It's as simple as that.

I don't think Oscar has shown any strengths so far at AFL level, I'm sure he has strengths at lower levels. I mean clearly he does and has because as you say, he was drafted onto a list and the FD elected not to bring in a key defender last year in the hope Frost and Oscar would be able to hold down the fort this year.

Isn't it obvious that it hasn't happened? Why the talk of going after a key defender now? Why does Gary Lyon suggest we should? How and why did he come to that opinion?

Over the years, I've always been happy to voice my opinions of players who I thought weren't up to it. Whether it was Bate, McKenzie, Bail or Morton. Joeboy I think points to a very obvious trend on demonland. Posters overeating players. Tyson is overrated on demonland by quite a few. Many gave him great praise for his 2014 year but those same posters don't like hearing when he is playing but his contribution is questionable. Or that there's an aspect of his game that may be questionable.

Reading the HUN this morning, I saw that OMac was our lucky charm and we usually win with him and not without him.   He played well against the Crows but not Brown who is spessshhuul.

As for Tyson ?

I doubt I've said a harsh word about him since he joined us, but for me he's a disappointing player.

He hasn't progressed since his first year (with us) in 2014 when he was 21.  He turns 24 in two weeks with 80 games under his belt and he's no better now and arguably impacts games less, because he hit the scoreboard in 2014 with 16 goals.  He's kicked one this year.

In the overall scheme of things I concede he's OK, but he's had zero growth as a player halfway through his 4th season at the club.

I know Trengove's papers are stamped, which is fair enough, but you'll have a hard time convincing me that he wouldn't offer the same output as Tyson.  If Trengove replaced Tyson over the next month I don't believe our chances of winning would be diminished one iota.

But plenty of players infuriate me.  Nathan Jones turnover kicks are hurting and intolerable from a senior player.

Tom McDonald is having a down year and I shudder when he's got the ball in his hands.

Wagner ?  I'm at a loss as to why he was rushed back after one game at Casey.  Clearly the coaches love him, but I'm yet to see this amazing talent before my eyes.

Lewis is a disappointment to me.  I was expecting a lethal left foot that never missed its mark.  He turns it over with the best of them.

No doubt some posters eyes are welling up with water as I criticise their darlings.  I'll cope.

Care to comment on the respective contributions of Weideman and Pedersen in recent weeks? Or are you admitting defeat on that one?

Weideman terrible and Pedersen has competed well.

Pedersen doesn't do it for me and never will, but he's performed his role as well as possible.

Any other questions ?

I agree with this , but I've run out of ideas for describing in 3 words what are everpresent faults in Tyson's footballing performance over the last 2-3 years.

And therein lies the issue.  Perhaps instead of looking for faults you could look for positives.

It's just an idea.

Suggestions like this are exactly why the club has stagnated for so long.

Ok from now on I'll play nice and only make politically correct bland comments about players so you can feel good about the team.

It seems that some posters are genuinely offended when you don't agree with their opinions.
I don't understand why people can't get their heads around the fact that this is an OPINION based forum.

No, not suggesting you do that, it just you said " but I've run out of ideas for describing in 3 words what are everpresent faults in Tyson's footballing performance over the last 2-3 years."

I'm just suggesting if your bereft of ideas that are different to describe his faults look for some of his strengths.  It's not hard Joeboy.

Joeboy - just try harder.

When you're an underachieving team like we are, isn't it prudent to try to identify why? Sport isn't always rainbows and unicorns.

Oh for heavens sakes.  We all know the teams weaknesses and the coaches know them much better than us.  We don't have to continually harp on the players weaknesses to "help the club".  That is why Joeboys replay of " Suggestions like this are exactly why the club has stagnated for so long." is so silly.

If you can't see that and you think we continually have to harp on the negatives to help the club you just don't get it.

On Tyson - he is polarising that is for sure.

He absolutely has his limitations and weaknesses.

He is absolutely overrated by some.

But by the same token, he is absolutely underrated by others.

I did go back over the three word analysis for the year and most positive comment about Tyson  is "prolific but wasteful".  There is a particular bias against Tyson but hey - it's a forum and everyone's got an opinion.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
