Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

This comes up often - the helmet won't help because the concussion is caused by the brain bouncing around inside the skull. Have I got that right?

This is the worst news of the year. Freo Hawks be damned. It's getting silly now. If he's really getting hurt from minor blows then he's gotta go. Rest of year at least.

Surely they reduce the severity though? That's like saying bike helmets do nothing.

It's not like saying that.  The bike helmet is to stop your brain from falling out when you splatter on to the hard road at force.

The same forces of inertia apply to your brain whether wearing a helmet or not.  You're less likely to suffer a laceration or a broken skull with a helmet on, but your brain still bounces around in there the same as it would if you weren't wearing it, which is what a concussion is.

Unfortunately for Gus, his previous concussion appear to have caused a residual effect, whereby any knock near the head is having more of an affect than it normally would.

Maybe not career ending, but definitely threatening.

He needs to take the rest of the year off, no contact sport whatsoever. If he is unable to get back to a level where his head can take some form of impact, then for the betterment of his life, he should retire.

For Brayshaw's long term health and piece of mind, it's time he's rested for an extended period of time (e.g. 2 - 3 months).

The club (I.M.O) already do a fantastic job when dealing with concussion. I like their conservative approach for what is currently a grey area.

Considering he's a big part of our future, what's wrong with a few months? Let the physical trauma placed onto the brain fully heal. It shouldn't be any different for someone being out for 6 - 8 weeks with a knee. I'd rather that than have the poor bloke considering retirement the next time he cops a knock.

He might already be at that point ignition.

Hoping he just got a minor knock and the club is being cautious.

One of the toughest young players I've ever seen. Will be really missed by the club if he has to sit out long term.

I think we should slow down a bit on the kid retiring if it is indeed another concussion. I too believe his health should come first before anything, but I am almost certain that Angus will try to do anything he can to keep his very young, promising career alive.

Has it been confirmed as a concussion?

Exactly - not all head knocks lead to concussion. Some of the amateur guesswork on here is based on nothing more than uninformed speculation.

I'll wait (with fingers crossed) for the club's assessment before hitting the panic button.

This conversation has happened every time mongrel - everyone instantly turns in to an expert on concussion and makes the decision for him to retire.  It's getting very tedious.  It hasn't even been confirmed as concussion yet!

If it keeps happening Nasher the decision will not be his and surely you don't think all these knocks are having no effect.

I'm hearing he's fine but they are taking no risks at all.

He copped a hit and was a little groggy but no huge concern at this stage.

I reckon any head knocks Gus cops at this stage are a pretty big concern.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
