Jason Johannisen

Featured Replies

What does DL think about recruiting Jason Johannisen and then using him and Melksham, Salem, Brayshaw and Hunt as outside mids who alternate at HB?

He's yet to re-sign and could actually be gettable for between 600-800?

Someimes paying overs for a perfect cog that syncs the team up is better than throw mega bucks at a pure A grade mid, it also might let the club trade out an inside mid to bolster the forward line or defence.

Id have him

Wouldn't say no for the right price but his kicking is still very questionable IMO. Great at gaining metres out of the back half, but we already have Hunt and Frost for that.

When was the last time a player like this coming off a grand final and norm smith medalist left his team for $$$

And why the hell would bulldogs let him go or trade?

He's out of contract and hasn't re-signed. Presumably the money is not there as they did dish out a heck of a lot for Boyd. He won't be coming off a grand final and norm smith medal this year.

Buddy was at that level.

Will be signed by end of season. Boyd the elder and Morris will be two who will go and free up salary cap room.

Him and Hunt will bookend the halfback line nicely.

I think we have much bigger deficiencies in other areas. And we need better users of the footy. We have a fair bit of pace in the side now but still only a handful of good users... Johannissen won't help this.

but didn't you guys tell me we were the new "destination club"

The running half back has now become the poor man's gorilla forward

Out of curiosity when does Hunt come out of contract?

We'd be no chance for Johannisen. The Bullies will make him an offer he can't refuse. Kyle Hartigan from the Crows might be worth a look as a KP defender. Out of contract at the end of the season. Suburban Melbourne born and bred and almost traded to Carlton last year as part of the Bryce Gibbs saga.

He would fit right in with his [censored] kicking

Personally, I think this is a myth. He is a fantastic kick. Fluffed a few in the grand final and all of a sudden he can't kick.

Yea your probably right I'm just going by his grand final performance don't really watch him otherwise

He won't leave

I'd rather a gun midfielder or a key position player than a HBF, no matter how good he is.

The dogs need to work out who the keys to their success are and pay those guys accordingly. You would hate to pay $800K for JJ & lose a Macrae or Dalhaus down the track.

I really cannot see him staying, because the difference between the doggies offer and what others will other will be $200 - 300 k/year. Both the WA teams need dash off the backline and I think he will return back there.

Melbourne are in a similar position to the Doggies, a glut of 20-23 year old players that will require more money to keep them. Players like Hunt, Oliver, Petracca, Salem, Weidemann, ANB, Frost and Gawn would expect to earn a lot more when their contracts come up for renewal. This is why Melbourne will not be able to afford him either.

I would take Johannisen in a heartbeat! The thing with players like him and Hunt is that you are essentially getting two speedy running backliners who are supplementing the midfield (if that makes sense).  However, I would also like to see us get one more big bodied tall defender to shore up our last line of defence - one who can deliver the ball and who isn't prone to slow/poor decision making in tight situations.

I agree  ( we can you know...lol  )

seriously though... I agree.  Think I know exactly what you're on about   ( god forbid these assumptions )

I think we have more pressing needs....

Key defender is probably the first choice for me.

We will need to spend our capital wisely.

Well, even when we don't agree, we can still agree to disagree

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

It’s late February. Two teams widely predicted to finish near the foot of the AFL table in 2026 face off against each other in sweltering 30-degree heat deep in outer suburbia in a match simulation with fresh new faces and uneven team numbers. There are no nearby sheep stations on offer; the result promises nothing more than bragging rights for the winner. Nevertheless, the loser appears hopelessly adrift, whereas the other seems to have found its footing after a couple of years of struggle – perhaps a hint at bigger things to come?
