Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

I noticed that there also seemed to be blue runners hanging around just outside the Hawks 50 for a long period of time.

Were they Hawthorn runners? As it looked like a tactic to try and make it look like there was less space to run into.

There should be a time limit on how long the runners can stay on the ground for it was ridiculous.

the replays commentators were noticing it too. well, blind Freddy would have.

Hawthorn play unsociable football, they also play street smart.

Hope Goodwin took note

If true could be a revival of an old tactic. Terry Wallace used to do it with the Bulldogs. Mix in runners, trainers and water boys/girls to fill in the empty spaces especially when his team was under pressure. Umpires should take note.

given the umps are 'wired'  the off field umpire ought to be taking note and firing off a 'stop play, award free to the team without trespassing runners"

Would nip it in the bud instantly ;)

To my mind he showed this in his acceptance speech at last year's b&f:  smart, articulate, gracious, humble.  Couple this with his competitiveness and fierce desire to improve and win at all costs spells 'leader' to me.  The way he plays says: 'follow me, guys' (as does Viney).  His suggestion at the last Freo bounce suggests he has the 'footy smarts' to read the play and how to respond.  Hopefully, Jones listens next time.  Have no idea how he is viewed internally, tho.

I agree - I'm not fond of the co-capt model either.  Bit off topic but maybe - Viney as capt with Hunt and Gawn as VC.  Gawn also has a good footy brain and on-field voice.

Missed that speech, I'll have to have a look for it. You're definitely right about on field leadership though, his actions speak for themselves.

Or have our players run in to the space occupied by the runner and "accidentally" collide.

Good post, hopefully it will provide some perspective to some of those wallowing in hysteria.

LOL, wallowing in hysteria. The fact that we've been ahead or even in the last quarter of every game, and have only won 3 is probably the cause of said hysteria

that's been going on for years ... easy thing to fix these days with post match camera review

Big fines and/or banning of runners for that team for next match

A drovers dog could see that our kick ins are not working and is one of the many areas that need improvement

Maybe said dog should take charge of that, as whoever it  is currently is barking up the wrong tree.. Theyve had a while to attend  to this. Not a new " shortcoming " in our weaponary

It was both teams. Crossy was out there hanging around & doing nothing just as much as the Hawthorn bloke

I'd be happy if they were only allowed out there after a goal is scored & they then have to be off the ground before the ball is bounced to restart play.

Same with water boys. Have 'em dotted around the boundary so players can access them by all means but keep them off the ground

I’d take it further. You want a drink? Head to the interchange bench. You want to talk to the coach? Pick up the phone.

Schwarz and Lyon may be right but the issues have been present since they were in the red and blue, bit hard for them to pass judgement when they were susceptible to it as well

A little older, a little wise. I guess they would like their playing careers back again.

I'll settle for a [censored] load of flags starting this season.

Perhaps 2018 adc.

I can guarantee you there will be no finals this year let alone a flag.

Without really playing any better at all we could very easily be five or six wins and sitting in the top two or four on the ladder.

I'm okay with people who think the sky is falling regardless of this fact.

What I have a problem with is that I know a bunch of the 'the sky is falling' crowd would have a different opinion if we were 5-2 or 6-1 on the ladder, even if we'd played very similar footy.

Precisely.

I saw T-Mac really fumble the ball in close to Hawthorns goal.

Did he make many really bad kicking mistakes yesterday?

Thought his decision making was better.

Kicked into the mark after a free kick in the 2nd

If no one fights for the dignity of this club in the public arena it will die a slow death..

I am still in shock that on the day the club announces we have 40,000 members for the first time ever, the FD decide to turn up at Half time to a club that has smashed us for decades.

Only the MFC would do that!!

Everyone is saying this is the closest season for decades. This is an opportunity to jump out of the pack. There is still time.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
