Werribee Tigers v Casey Demons

Featured Replies

from the mfc site match report:

Melksham’s report came after a collision with Werribee’s Matthew Hanson at a centre bounce.

Hanson stood up to receive the free kick and played out the match.

But by the 25-minute mark of the third term, Melksham found himself in more hot water, with the umpire taking his number for a second time after another run in with Hanson.

and i think harmes was injured too. eye injury went to hospital

Gotta hand it to Milkshake, thats a great response to his demotion.  Too bad he got rubbed out for a week.

Raises the question that maybe Melksham is being played out of position??

Maybe needs a few weeks in the midfield at Casey to get his touch back.

HITTING A WALL by KC from Casey

When Dion Johnstone kicked his second goal for Casey Demons to give his team a 19 point lead early in the time on period of the third quarter at Hogans Road Reserve, Hoppers Crossing the visitors appeared poised to win their second game for the season and grab a spot in the top eight of the VFL competition.

Unfortunately for the Demons they hit a wall and were swamped by a Lindsay Thomas-inspired Werribee which kicked the last five goals of the match to a miserable four points in the final forty minutes before the final siren sounded with the home side 13 points in front.

Thomas had an action-packed game that saw him reported for a head high bump on Corey Maynard early in the second term which saw the rookie stretchered off the ground and out for the game. At the time, Maynard had been playing well and was well on his way to another high possession game. Former Bomber Jake Melksham was also in strife with the men in white after two incidents involving Werribee’s Matthew Hanson.

Earlier in the match, Casey took control of the game in the second quarter after an arm wrestle in the first term of the hard fought contest to hold a 15 point lead at half time. The Demons retained that lead for most of the third term with Melksham outstanding in a performance that would have been even more formidable has his kicking for goal been on target - he finished with one goal five behinds for the match.

Assisting him among the better AFL listed Demons were Billy Stretch, Jack Trengove and Ben Kennedy (23 touches each) while young ruckmen Mitch King and Declan Keilty worked hard but were overpowered by North Melbourne giant Braydon Preuss who had 71 hit outs. The loss to injury of Melbourne's two talls Gawn and Spencer is cutting deep through to the VFL ranks as well.

Youngster Johnstone stood out with some strong tackling along with his two goal effort to indicate he is becoming more comfortable at this level.

Bayley Fritsch continues to impress while Dylan Collis played his best game for Casey.

In the end, it was Thomas' two final quarter goals that broke the deadlock between the teams after booting his first in the shadows of three quarter time.

The Demons have another tough away game coming up this week against the fourth placed Northern Blues at Preston.

Thomas was sent straight to the tribunal. Assessed as careless, severe impact and high contact.

Good to see Weid has the raised the bar up to 6 disposals. Look I havent seen the game and have no idea what role he played but those are damning stats.

What a gutless scumbag.

They showed the same clip "On the Couch" Thomas runs past the ball making no attempt to contest it and takes Maynard high. Straight to the AFL tribunal I hope they throw the book at him.

If Hogan got 2 weeks for his hit then Thomas should get 4-5!

I don't really give a rat's about the little sniper who hit him but more importantly, does anyone know how Corey Maynard pulled up after the incident?

I don't think the MRP has a system/formula that can effectively deal with that hit. 4-5 is nowhere near enough for that sort of rubbish. Deliberate, high, hard, is the most it can be calculated as. There needs to be another classification, perhaps [censored] act would work.

"Careless" is the weasel word there. MRP too gutless to call a spade a spade.

Apparently he spent the night in hospital.

Any word on Maynard?  The earlier reports suggested something around the eye?  Was a dog act by Thomas.  I wish him a speedy recovery, and Thomas a long holiday.

I think that was Harmes who had an issue with his eye wasn't it?

Hopefully Maynard is out of hospital.  No room for acts like that in our game.

I just had a look at the Melksham incidents - Hanson goes down like a shot dog each time: did Melksham snipe him both times or was Hanson playing for the frees?

The first Melksham incident wasn't that bad, just a tap to the guts....

But the second one, after numerous views, was a roundhouse right to the head!  A week is a good result!

Silly by Jake after being a dead certainty to return to the AFL side on the back of his performance...

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
