Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

In what way do you think WCE might have recruited differently?

It is certainly a rule that has restricted the flexibilty of a list and of weekly team selections.

WCE experience and our current predicament puts a strong case for the AFL to announce rule changes before the trade/draft period.

Darcy Cameron would have been taken with their second pick

If we're chasing Sam Reid (Or Tippet), would we then be interested in trading Spencer for another player that fills a need? Does Spencer have much capital? Plenty of teams in need of a ruckmen. I know we're in need of one too, but perhaps another club would be willing to take a punt on him and his injury history? Sam Reid/Pederson then tide the club over until King comes on as backup while hopefully Gawn remains injury free for that period.

Incredibly risky when you consider that King has shown nothing to suggest he has what it takes to play at AFL level.  I'm no Spencer fan, but until there is someone to trade for/draft/develop that is better than him or at least equal to him, then I can't see us trading him.  I just don't think it would be a good move.

But isn't it risky keeping a list spot dedicated to a player who when finally asked to be called upon, got injured and in my opinion, recklessly with a diving hip shoulder down low into oncoming contact? (Though I don't fault endeavour) - He showed enough promise in those games to have perhaps wet the appetites of other clubs with a desire to 'get the best out of him'

Even if we don't chase after a Reid, Tippett or ruck fwd, might it not be prudent to bring in another ruck as depth instead of Spencer if there's one out there?

what we need is another forward who can pinch hit in the ruck (like a Peter Wright). Gawn is a Ruckman who can pinch hit up forward, so a forward who can go into the ruck would compliment the list nicely.

Watts is making a decent fist of it at the moment, but he is too valuable as an option up forward and we suffer as a result.

As far as I understand, Jake Spencer is an unrestricted free agent.

All this angst over 1 or 2 extra spots on the list which might be reserved for ruckmen is quite counter-productive.

In any given year, we could name up to a dozen listed players (who are not ruckmen) who are on borrowed time anyway.  Sometimes it's more than a dozen.  In  2012, 2013 and other years we had up to 20 listed non-ruckman types who were on the road to delistment.

Having extra ruckmen on the list is sensible insurance.  They can always be traded on if they're any good so there's trade value at play as well.

As it stands, how many midfielders and half back flankers do we need?  If we see many of those types as depth players, why not the same thinking for ruckmen?

agree Jake Lever would be our no.1 target. But would come at a price like MFC round 1 draft pick #10 + ANB + swap of 2nd rounders.

If that's all it took, you'd do that every day of the week...

Josh Schache? Admitedly i only watch 1 or 2 bris games a year. But a promising 199cm forward that could pinch hit in ruck at some point ? Could he swing in defence too?

Josh Schache has been granted two weeks leave from Brisbane as he weighs up his football future @SportsdayRadio

Agree. Not much speculation involved in getting Lever.

ANB could end up as a handy player and pick 10 has currency so i dont think a deal like that TOO unrealistic.

Adelaide would laugh at us if we tried to throw ANB in. He's a C grade youngster best.

ANB plus pick 10(ish) plus an upgrade of their second rounder not good enough?

Lever looks good, but he isnt a ready made star. Its hardly a terrible offer i reckon.

Who do you think we would need to part with?

Unfortunately there's a pretty obvious answer as to where we could've had an extra list spot that isn't getting used and could've seen a ready made 3rd ruck added to the list and that's Lumumba's spot.

Surprised this hasn't come up more. I never did understand why the AFL ruled that we weren't allowed to use Lumumba's spot on the list, despite having paid out his contract and him having agreed too. I still can't escape the feeling that if it was one of the AFL-preferred clubs, they wouldn't have dared to not let them use the spot.

We copped it sweet at the time, didn't even ask them to justify it. In hindsight, maybe that was - once again - naive.

The settlement came after the list lodgement, nothing we could do about it. At that stage I think it was the (professional) expectation that he would turn up to the first day of training to continue being an AFL football. Obviously that was incorrect.

What I wasn't impressed about was that the AFL wouldn't let us upgrade a rookie for his then useless spot. Mind you it was a moot point given the injuries we've had this year.

I reckon we could get away with pick 10 and an upgrade of picks if we convinced Lever to come.

I don't know what the hype is all about.

Let someone else take this risk...

The hype at this stage seems to be more linked to his draft selection, rather than output.

He's shown no more than Weideman IMO.

Joe Danniher....

No chance to get him out of EFC but how much would he be worth on the open market if Schache is going to get anywhere near what's rumoured.

Despite Daniher having a question over his kicking, I can't understand some people writing this kid off. I wish we had him, as frustrating as he may be on occasions. He is going to be one of the best forwards in the game. His mobility, combined with his height makes him potentially the next Buddy Franklin. He racks up scoring shots like a young Franklin too.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
