Goodwin's selection strategies

Self explanatory thread. Can all the comments about him being a first year coach etc- he's been at the club for two + years now, it's his list and gameplan, but we still fail to turn up for entire quarters, throw leads, and lack on field leadership, Questionable selection and positional calls have left us in the position where we've been forced to play Watts as our primary ruckman for whole halves of football, costing us a forward target. Most concerning of all is the feeling that this group have bought into the media driven spin that they're on the cusp of greatness. I hope they are but their performances to date haven't indicated that, and they have nothing to be arrogant about, certainly not enough to take any team in the competition lightly. That all comes from the head coach. Far from impressed with his performance to date.

Some of his selections have been mystifiing. Poor selections and poor match day coach, reminds me of Neeld. Does anyone else think Paul Roos would have let 3 games slip??

Should have been 4-1. Very few teams can lose their rucks at half time and win.

This is number three.  @Nasher is going to have a busy night at this rate.

The pressure on Goodwin comes when the bloke gets a fair run at it.  He's already lost an AA ruckman for most of the year, we lost our second ruckman halfway through this game and we've had key players missing through suspension.

This is just... silly.  No idea why he would be under pressure or why you would even insinuate that he would be.

One of the smarter things mark neeld used to say is the last thing we see is the scoreboard and we are doing so much right but our lapses are really costing us, there has been plenty to like in every game we have played but we are still in the youngest couple of sides in the comp so we will build consistency 

...and it didn't do Neeld any good.

The scoreboard is the only stat that counts in the end.

The selections, well we dominated the first half and couldn't get a score on the board that reflected the dominance....

Not sure we had much else at Casey, Smith going down hurt the structure which of course Spencer did too.

We had one tall forward and a medium tall (Petracca) injured.

I don't really understand the JKH selection but I'm also not a fan of what Kent has brought to the table. A lazy footballer...

Goodwin threads merged.  We don't need two "it's all the coach's fault" threads on the front page.

And putting the blowtorch on the coach after 5 games, when we've competed in all 5.  Wow.

No, just 2. Against all odds, we got utterly outplayed by Essendon and Carlton last year.

We haven't been utterly outplayed in any game this year, but the selections have been mystifying. And as a result of the poor selections, Goodwin's options on matchday have been limited.

Regardless of the injuries to Gawn and Spencer during the game, anyone with half a brain could see that our structure would be better served with Pedersen playing as the forward/ruck and Watts utilised as a permanent forward. Particularly when Hogan was out. 

But who are we to argue about selections. Some of the high and mighty on here think that every decision the FD makes is right, because us mere plebs aren't privy to KPI's and the like.

The only mistake by the coach was making Viney captain.

Other than that I think we are looking very positive when building a team that's inexperienced.
