Spencer has been an understudy to two All Australian ruckmen, can't see him letting this opportunity pass him by.

You mean to get another lesson from an AA ruckman in Sanderlands?

I'm glad he will get a chance. I hope Spencer goes well, it could lead to a #1 ruck role at another club next season if he goes well.

Our ruck stocks would be in serious trouble if that happened.

I actually have a lot of faith in big Jake. My biggest fear is that he gets injured or suspended... if he goes down in the next 12 weeks we are truly cooked.

A true Demon pessimist.

Give the guy a go.

The printed piece had The Fan part moved to a separate coloured header, but both printed and online are clearly not presented as 'this is serious (journalism). mum'.  Filler for public holiday publication.

Looking forward to Spencer getting further AFL game conditioning.

Thats what I meant, want him to get the best out of his opportunity, was similar for Maxy trying to play out from Jamars shadow...

I am sure Jake got a good laugh out of it

8 years for 38 games. He is a lucky man to even have a chance...

A #2 Spencil and a dream can take you anywhere.

Anyone got the gif of Spencil rag dolling that guy in the VFL from a year or two ago? That was a classic tackle!

Due to certain happenstance, I have met Jake a few times since he started at Melbourne.

1, He is a lovely bloke.

2. He loves Melbourne and is very committed.

3. He has improved and developed every year and is a far better player than many on this site give him credit for.

4. I predict that over the next few weeks he will have many people eating humble pie.

5. GO JAKE!!!!

I agree, and I also think it's a bit of a cop out to

our midfield to say they're only good because of max, we have a strong and deep midfield who will adapt and compete I still expect us to win the next three games

If we are fair dinkum we should.

On a dirty day, Big Spence was a shining light. He was never going to win the hit outs but competed very well, snagged a few goals and took some solid grabs. If only he played last week when Max went down, we just might have won.

Rapt for the big fella, deserves a good crack at senior footy.

That was as tough an ask as you could get for your first game back, but he did admirably.

He is such an improved player from the uncoordinated beanpole that most just assumed would be spat out after a couple of years.

Now that Sandilands is out of the way, it will be interesting to see how he goes against "normal" ruckman, like Nankervis, McEvoy, Leuenberg etc.

A great workhorse effort by big Spenc. Couldn't have asked for more.

Was fantastic to see the big Caveman take a few good grabs, snag a couple and be very solid at centre bounces against that hideous mutant. Well done, fella.
