He was a Restricted Free Agent and Adelaide said they’d match the Cats offer which forced Cats to trade picks.

Lever is actually easier because as an in contracted player he can just walk and Crows can’t stop him. He can use Luke Ball trick. Put a ridiculous price on his head and say he’ll only take one year at any other Club and then go in the draft again. No Club would touch him and he goes to Dees and Crows get nothing. He goes to us and then negotiates a 5 year deal or whatever and the first year price is absorbed into the contract. Ultimately that is why Crows will have to be reasonable. Im sure I t won’t get to that. Also sure Lever won’t want to leave that way unless absolutely forced.

Sure, except the AFLs trade integrity guy has to sign off on any player movements as being fair and reasonable, which that isn't. He's knocked back deals before.

If Adelaide won't budge on 2 first rounders there is a solution if Richmond are interested. We could swap our top 3 picks 10, 27 & 45  (draft value 2445 pts) for Richmonds 15, 17 & 53 (draft value 2370 pts). We give the 2 first rounders to Adelaide and keep the slightly downgraded 3rd rounder. Richmond end up in the top 10 of draft and better trade value overall.

Thoughts?

If we give up two 1st round draft picks for Lever, I'd be [censored], I'll renew my membership still, but the club would be pushing my limits. ?

Lever is believed to have informed the Crows of his wish on Tuesday and is certain to nominate Melbourne as his preferred destination.

jake niall confirms he's requesting a trade: https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/jake-lever-officially-tells-adelaide-that-he-wants-to-be-traded-to-victorianbased-afl-club/news-story/18ed1449aba092ba0cc8661635f295cc

Apparently they released this statement now because they didn't want everyone to hear it first from Lever's mouth. Imagine if you tune into Adelaide 7 news and hear him say i wanna go to the Dee's

It'd be a 9 News exclusive if it was Collingwood

A sneak peek of the interview - sounds like BT:

ADELAIDE defender Jake Lever has requested a trade to a Victorian club.

Crows head of football Brett Burton said the club was extremely disappointed in Lever's decision and would consider all its options.

Lever has reportedly told Channel Seven that he wants to join Melbourne, confirming months of speculation.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

  • GAMEDAY: Essendon

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
