I'm just putting it out there, for those going in circles about if he's been training well or not, his actual training is not the problem I'm lead to believe.

So what did he do Deestroy?

Dont leave us hangin.

OK, so you won't elaborate, but who/what led you to believe it whatever it is?

I think there are alot on here who owe Leoncelli36 a massive apology. He was completely shouted down and rubbished at for providing info right from the very start.

I hope he didn't get a holiday from here also?

I don't write on here much, as I genuinely enjoy reading some of the opinions on here, most often to laugh or possibly cry at the stuff some people write.

But, need to tell you all, from a reliable source inside the club, watts IS being punished for his training standard and how he returned not as fit as he could have been, not his off field stuff like some people are guessing. The main reason though is how he has been training.

for those who go to training sessions, you know they film all the sessions and drills and also monitor all players with their gps systems, and unfortunately for jack, he wasn't doing what they expect of all players, all the time.

once he shows consistent effort for the entire session, he will be back in.

Even if not picked for the WCE game, have been told it is highly unlikely he won't play round 1 for us!

Thanks for that. Watched Goodwin's interview today in AFL tonight and he mentioned that his lack of intensity was also self admitted by Jack. In years gone by they probably would have let it slide, but with so many training the house down, and a hard line approach, it wasn't acceptable this time.

well he definitely ain't playing this week

Yep, we're obviously being softened up for Jack not playing for a few weeks. Sounds like Goodwin has upped the ante big time. Putting forward his version of Jack's side of the story is taking a huge but unnecessary risk.

The media may have been fed and are reporting it's a training standard issue. But I believe he's being punished for off field issues.

Seconded.  The whole argument about training is a furphy. It's not  necessary to breach the innuendo code on here to accept that other issues are involved. As Jack Ruby once said, "If i could only get to Washington..."

it's no good me reporting after the fact (but I will)  that I have heard JW was pushing himself at the end of drills last pre-season. It wasn't unusual for him to run over others at the end and really push it out. This pre-season he hasn't. It's been noticed by observers but not only observations the GPS doesn't lie and I'm guessing it confirms what I have been told.

Well I suppose the silver lining out of all this carry on is that when Watts eventually plays he should, at least, be as good as last year 5th B & F, 38 goal result but more consistent and with a more aggressive edge. Happy days

It is possible off field 'issues' and training standards are linked and so both have been problematical (and therefore the posters who seems to contradict each other are, in fact both correct). If he has been partying a bit hard it would clearly have an impact on his capacity to push himself super hard in training - unless you are Ben Cousins.

In my view off field activities are no ones business - until such time as it affects training or playing or standards (or of course it brings the club in to disrepute eg Dustin Martin or involves something like family violence etc).

Whatever the cause or reason the bottom line is he has not been training at the required intensity. Which as i have said before is simply not good enough, particularly for a senior players and perhaps the most talented player on the list. How embarrassing for him to have a young whipper snapper like trac have to say something in an interview like "jack knows what he has to do, he is STILL an important player for us''.

Lucifer i see your point about the fact this has been going on for months but i am assuming they have addressed it with him. An until the last 2-3 weeks he has failed to fully address the issue. Yes this is a guess but to my mind if true his makes it Jack's behavior worse,

I put Jack in my top 10 all time favorite player list so i can barely be a bigger fan but i fully support the approach taken by Goodwin and the club. And i'm really annoyed and frustrated with jack to be honest. i hope he is selected in Round 1 because that will indicate he has fully addressed the issue of training at the required intensity. But i hope they don't pick him if he has not done the work. there can only be one rule.

This saga has been going on for far too long. It is an embarrassment to the club, the coach and the supporters.

Jack has been very badly treated by the collective FD. If there was a problem, they should have come out at the beginning and made the case. For the FD to let it drag out in small bits of assumption, speculation, innuendo and straight out invention and place his teammates in difficult positions at press interviews is a failure of the FD and the coach. If Jack is not up to it, say so and move on. 25 pages of comment on 'land is about 24 too many.

In my mind, the FD will have to excel in the future to overcome this distasteful and demeaning episode.

This is complete speculation.

How would you know what has really happened? How would you know if Jack approached the FD and said he had a problem and needed some time? How would you know if it was off field issues, lack of endeavor at training, a broken hand or smelly feet?

We have no idea what is really going on. So far it is most likely spin.  Your comments could be construed as distasteful and demeaning of the FD.

WE DON'T KNOW, we merely speculate, so before we pillory people we should wait until we have some facts, and not the Trump type.

What I love is how most posters seemingly want to make out that it's entirely Goodwin and the FD's fault and none of it lies at the feet of Watts, as if he hasn't done a thing wrong and they've just decided to treat him poorly for the sake of it.  Madness.

And we know who they are...

I'm happy to admit that I was skeptical of the inside info on Watts when Leoncelli36 put it forward - I didn't have a crack at him, just didn't want to jump the gun, but it's clear now that he has dropped the ball big time and is now paying the price for that.  He would know what the expectations are, and to get stuck into Goodwin and the FD for enforcing the punishment is short sighted.  I'm annoyed about the situation, but that annoyance is with Watts and not the club.

To be fair, most supporters can't remember the last time the FD drew a line in the sand and established (and subsequently upheld) standards.

I can understand why some supporters still feel the need for talent to be picked every week without regard to upholding these standards.

Whilst unfamiliar, I think we're in for some great times as a result. I can't wait to give it to my Hawthorn supporting mates...

I don't think either are eligible at the moment. Hopefully they both return soon.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
