Jack Watts

Poster vindicated for their rumour.

3AW - Watts came back in poor shape with poor attitude.

Fit to play and not picked by Goodwin as a statement.

Silly boy after one good year.

One lousy good year.

Maybe 3AW got that from Demonland ... wouldn't be the first time.

Or did the commentator name a source/evidence?

Watts has not let me down by letting me down again. OMG Jacky boy !!!   Are we really sure a dingo got the baby or was it ..........?

Was that a call in or confirmed from the club?  Again, not willing to judge if it's still just a rumour that's floating around.

The club website mentions that Watts, Hibberd and Jetta are all likely to be available for selection this week.

Call me naive but until the club confirms it I'm still of the belief it's a rumour.

For those who don't want to click it, it's a short article about what Mitch Cleary has 'heard' coming out of AAMI park.  Nothing better than what we've had on here.

Has the audio of the conversation in question. A definitive statement from Cleary.

If you choose not to believe it that's up to you.

For me there's enough smoke.

Others can please themselves.

A hint of triumphalism in your post Pro after having to wear a Jack avatar for most of last year?

I'm not surprised.

There's more to his off seasons than poor condition...

No.  Just annoyance that a bloke who has had one good year in 8 gets ahead of himself.

He owes his himself, his club and his teammates far more than that.

Personally I was surprised how the poster was pretty much attacked for daring to mention something negative he had heard.

Hardly.  Some posters questioned the validity of the rumour, myself included.  He wasn't attacked, but in saying that, when you post a rumour that is not based on anything but hearsay you're likely to get backlash from some.

Shooting the messenger?

Truth be known I am not a fan of Watts the person.

But Watts the player has something to offer.

I just want to see a flag.  I was ridiculed for referencing the Goodwin presser in the post match thread.  It is hard to believe that Goodwin was omitting Watts without some reason.

I'm sure Jack will get a chance to redeem himself....again.

Just to add to the discussion. Here is McCartney's take on Watts in the list updates.

Jack Watts

Jack’s really keen to build on – I’m not sure it was a breakout year – but a turning point in his career. He has a great love for his teammates and loves the team environment and brings a real energy to what we do here every day at the footy club. Our feeling is that we haven’t seen the best of Jack yet, but it’s close. His commitment – and our commitment to Jack – is that what he showed last year becomes the norm this year and that is that he’s ‘thereabouts’ every game.

Doesn't really give much either way, but there is little about his actual pre-season.

If the 'rumour' is suggesting that Watts came back in poor 'physical condition', then the rumour is already inaccurate.

Cleary just kept on repeating himself, didn't have anything more than on here. I'm sure someone at the club will clear it in a presser

States definitively that he was not rested and was not missing through injury. No specifics but that clears it up for me.

Of course it may be real, but I'm tempted to risk banning net week by starting a rumour about a high-profile player and seeing how long before SEN or some other slack journos fly with it.

BTW, for those who think his ommision in itself was suspicious, how about :  I was told by a source close to the club that Watts was in such good shape that there seemed little point in putting him in the team ahead of some of the marginal players who we wanted to have a good look at in a real game.  Seems a credible statement.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.
