OK - so he is articulate-

Not so sure about that ... he seems to stumble over his thoughts somewhat. and his judgement is questionable (leaving out the obvious) ... that time he slammed the umps and got a fine for instance.

Garry is the goods. Says in 5 words what Dermott takes 50 to say.

Media work for ex players is easy money.

He's back with James Tird. I won't be watching.

Do you mean on FC or some other media outlet?  Just can't see Hird on FC to be honest - doesn't fit the 4 person panel format - unless they ditch Hutchy or Lloyd.

A number of posters have taken your Lyon/Hird media work as fact - wondering if this has this been advertised/written anywhere?  EFC can't even get him back near the club so really wonder if he is going to front up in some media role.

Thanks dc. I thought the reference to 'not watching' was to do TV together.

Did some googling and found this: http://www.heraldsun.com.au/entertainment/confidential/james-hird-and-garry-lyon-in-talks-to-team-up-with-sen-radio-gig/news-story/79d88ec23bdf948341206dce1b23ae7d

I felt physically ill reading it.  I'm with you dc: Garry, don't do it!

If Hird joins SEN they had better keep him away from Tim Watson!

I can confirm that James Hird will not be involved with SEN, either in the Morning show with Garry, or calling on a Friday night. Just an FYI.

And also, people having a crack at Garry's "Mental Health" issues should just have a think about it.. keep the thoughts to yourself, feel free to lambast him for decisions made in the past, but i think its in very poor taste to question someones illness. Thats all.

Agree, that it is wrong to have a crack at Lyons mental health issues.    I loved him as a player and captain of our club.  However, as time has gone on, I have lost respect for him as a media person. Perhaps that is because of his past association with the footy show and his boys club attitude. Although, he always wrote an interesting article in The Age.  However, he has made some very poor and selfish decisions and behaved in a way that has hurt a lot of people.  The damage has been done.  He may recover and get back to his million dollar media show but there are many people who will have to live with the damage and hurt of his actions.  In my eyes, he has been diminished as a person.

'Hemingway', most of us have made poor decisions in life. Just not in the public limelight.

Some decisions hurt others, some are irresponsible and often selfish. In Gary's case the story we got was that he had an affair with Billy's ex wife...

I would think Gary's wife and family would have felt hard done by and betrayed if they were still together (I don't know these circumstances). Whether or not they were Billy took the moral high ground, seeming to claim some kind of ownership of his ex wife which is more of the boys club attitude to my mind.

As some on here will know, I'm not a Gary fan at all but I don't think what he did was a hanging offence.

Just another situation that shows footballers for all their ability on the field are just normal people off it.

I think if you don't know the full story, then its a bit rich to take the moral high ground. The problem is to many people think what happened with the Billy thing was a criminal offence, when in actual fact it was just a personal issue that was played out publicly. But we all have the right to judge i guess, just lets keep the battles with mental health out of it, its very real and it has been ongoing for a while.

Agree on all of the above. Though whilst people can judge i guess i'm not sure it's a right and besides so. In fact i'm in the no right to judge camp!

The affair is a personal issue that is nobody business but those involved in my book. As for his mental health issues i wish him all the best.

There was that comment that's I'm sure he regretted where he said you don't take a mates wallet and you don't take a mates ex-misses, or something of that degree. I think that spoke to a very old school mentality as you say of ownership, but I think that was Billy being Billy the bogan. His point of betrayal was fair and from what was said in the media he asked them about it and they chose to lie to him. I'm not going to go much further on that point, but I will say that Gary was treated and lambasted as if he committed a crime.

What he did was morally wrong, that took two to tango I should add, but nothing more. In terms of his reported illness and everything that came with it, I hope he's moved past the worst of it and he can start rebuilding his life brick by brick.

I don't know nor care to know what the situation was for them so I shall generalise the discussion here.

I understand 'morally wrong' refers to the 'don't mess with the missus' code.  And for some it is particularly strong and extend it to ex wives/ex partners.  But when two people are separated, living apart from their ex spouses/partners and are consenting adults, how they lead their lives is a private matter.

As a woman, I wouldn't want my separated from for several years ex husband, having some intrinsic right to know who I was dating.  I may or may not choose to disclose it but as to an intrinsic right for him to know or to get an explanation, well in my book, it does not override my right to privacy.  Understandably, he can be sad, angry, disappointed or upset but to think I was morally wrong to date a mutual best friend would not sit well with me.

I'm not wanting to stir up a hornet's nest, and relationships are delicate situations but just wanted to put a female's perspective on the privacy of consenting adults.

I loved him as a player. Favourite player in fact, well other than Robbie of course.

But I've come across him at close quarters on a number of occasions since then. Not a great bloke.

Having said that, I hope he recovers from his mental issues.

That's very fair, and as I said it was two consenting (and recently separated) adults who I think the betrayal centres around the fact that between the 4 of them they were all good friends.

Honesty from the start might well have spared this turning into as much of a circus as it did. It was disgraceful that random completely false rumours dragged Billy's daughter into it.

So Lyon is back on SEN in the breakfast slot (Starting Jan 30) with Tim Watson & Hamish McLaughlan.

Personally not a fan of any of these guys...but it looks like the cheque book is out at SEN.

Apparently Dame Nellie Sheehan is a weekly guest.

When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
