It is not simply a question of it being 'white', the overall design just stinks.

Having said on numerous occasions I don't mind the white jumper this is certainly not their finest hour.

This argument has been going on for years dc and the "Red Designers " are no closer that they were 10 years ago.

The problem for the RD's is the MFC and the AFL settled this years ago and while the MFC are beholding to the MFC for finance nothing will change.

Raise it after we have won three flags in a row and have 60 000 members. Until then it will not do a "Trump" or anything similar.

if you are not up to the fight, then step aside and get out of the way, od

I am not standing in your way dc.

I am just pointing out the folly in the effort.

King Canute comes to mind.

Well said. Those who just accept the white jumper will get it

Those who find the whole "white jumper" scenario offensive considering not all have to wear them, have to keep fighting.

But we need to engage the club and members...

I sent them the following:

Good Afternoon,

While I am sure you have received a number of emails relating to the 2017 clash Guernsey, I felt it necessary to also provide some feedback. I do not expect an email back, however as a paying member of the Melbourne Football Club I felt it necessary to voice my opinion on what I think is a really poor effort in the production of the 2017 clash Guernsey.

I understand that the AFL sets certain guidelines for the types of clash Guernsey’s required, but I feel that this years’ is an extremely lazy effort at constructing a clash strip. I actually don’t mind the idea of having different strips as it presents a great commercial opportunity to sell more merchandise to fans. However, I can  honestly say this is one of the worst attempts I have seen from any club in the AFL (including the Hawks Power Rangers effort!). It seems as though someone has just taken a white Guernsey (because we have to) and just decided to slap the emblem on there as they couldn’t be bothered thinking of anything better to do. The only thing I can think of that resembles this would be a cheap knock off singlet you would buy on the streets of Bali!

While I understand that you will be unable to change the strip for the 2017 season, I do have some recommendations for future seasons.

1.       We should look at involving the members in decisions on the alternate strip (as we are the ones who will be buying them). This could be done with a ‘create the guernsey’ competition or you could provide 3 options and let people vote.

2.       We should look at only have a red clash strip. The Bomber’s colours are not too dissimilar to ours and they are able to have a red clash strip so why not us?

3.       I have attached a concept for clash strips produced by another MFC member that I think would be much better options. The main reason is that they would both contain the red ‘V’ which I feel is synonymous with the Melbourne Football Club brand.

I appreciate you taking the time to read this email and I hope that it does not fall on deaf ears. As mentioned I do not expect an email back but I just hope that the club will accept the feedback from the people who pay money to this club and who purchase your merchandise.

but od, you just repeat yourself with the same defeatist statements

you have said a number of times you don't care what colour jumper we play in (you are the only one who says this) , so you have no objections to  a red or red/blue only clash jumper. your only argument against such a clash jumper is that we can't beat city hall purely because we don't have the power or privilege of a club like essendon who can seemingly break the so-called rules.

we get your pov, but it doesn't add anything to the argument beyond saying it is just too hard. so is a flag, so is a lot of things, but they are not impossible or insurmountable

There's 18 sets of colours to deal with, so the AFL are trying to balance it all out.

That's why.

balance what out ?...this speaks of a nonsense.  A clash is relevant to the two teams playing on the day, that is all. What does it matter  what other teams play in , or not at any other ground ?

Hey, I've got an idea.  Make the umpires wear all white.  That would be novel, wouldn't it?  The number of times i've seen their 'pyjamas' cause confusion on the ground for players is many

It really should be very easy. For clubs that don't clash witht he predominantly blue jumper of our traditional strip then we should be wearing that. That would be most clubs I would think. For clubs that do clash with the traditional strip (Blues, Dogs, Maybe Adelaide and West Coast) then we wear our alternate strip. The alternate strip could be as simple as reversing the blue and red, surely if you clash with Dark Blue then you don't with red!

Thanks beeb, although hideous are they any worse than the official jersey? They are at least still red & blue, and I would think be a viable alternate strip.

Pink and Aqua more like it ManDee.

They almost make the pajamas look decent.....almost.

Not a mad fan of this new design though

Balance out the fact that a lot of teams have red, hence why some teams need to have a white clash guernsey.

Not that hard to understand really.

You don't see how us wearing a red jumper doesn't help much if we play Essendon who have a big red sash?

And what about when we eventually host Essendon? Why is okay for them to wear a red clash strip against us, but we can't against them? That doesn't make sense. Did you notice that Gold Coast wore its red uniform against Essendon and St Kilda last season. Nothing was said about it.

Red and yellow is a lot different to red and dark blue when comparing to red and black. St Kilda have barely any red so don't see why that would be a problem either.

You're right about us hosting Essendon though.

Surely one of the key criteria from the clubs perspective would be Demon shop sales.

I think revenue's gonna be down this year.

Weird fact, but one of the things the club has said in the past is most of the time the "uglier" merch sells the best...

Why can't we simply where our normal jumper against the dons? There is no clash there.

That's right!  Muck up this thread with a perfectly sensible suggestion!  Stone him, I say!!

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
