Wayne - is this an early indication that both Melksham and Hibberd will be stationed across half back, or was it just their role in the drill?

All of Melksham, Hibberd, Viney, JKH, Mitch King along with Crossy were doing a drill located at the Northern end where they were just leading and marking kicks to each other in different combinations within an area about 60 out from goal. I assume it's conditioning their bodies to footy style movements - kicking, marking, bending down, jumping etc. Wouldn't really impact where they play.

Hibberd clearly has a powerful left. Melksham has very good penetration on both sides of his body. His body is very sinewy and he kicks like a guy with long levers, not always pretty but it can travel. JKH is one of the most balanced kicks in the team, from a technical and aesthetic component I'd say he's the best kick of that group.

We all know Viney isn't the greatest kick but one thing he does make look easy is taking difficult marks. He plucked a ball one handed that should've gone clear over his head. He was jumping and scurrying around and not showing any signs of restriction in his movement.

Thanks DS, very much appreciated.

Perfect summation again DS, can you please turn up to all the sessions I can, you can do your bit and I can do the periphery, describing drills not my forte

On JKH believe they have adopted the Hunt approach, get him right so once he is right he stays on the field

Brilliant reporting DeeSpencer, much appreciated from those who can't make it to training (even if by pure laziness!)

@DeeSpencer

Is it fair to say Hibberd has got a bit of catching up to do regards aerobic capacity?

Just their role in the drill, Wiseblood. They are in a small 'rehab' group with Viney and Mitch King. However, I do think both have been earmarked for half-back, with Hibberd a prime candidate for kick ins (in the Vince mode).

Fair dinkum nonsense.  Should be called Vanillaland.

Great info guys, keep it coming, it is appreciated, as it will be the only thing entertaining on this site from now on.

I would think Trenners would have been hanging to get back early.

I would say no, reckon they have brought both Melksham and Hibberd back early so they have a fortnight of rehab for when the whole squad is together on the 21st, he's doing the work without looking too 'stressed' at the end, heard Misson tell Viney twice to 'curb his enthusiasm' if you get my meaning...believe Hibberd spent the Wednesday training indoors on the Watt bike

Don't forget Trenners spent all the finals series playing for Casey, so entitled for a longer break, has been posting on Instagram like the rest, been working out down in Rowville at the Cuzzie gym owned by Alex S the rehab guy at the Club

Just opened this thread with some trepidation.  I can only say what a delight it is to just read training reports and tidbits and see how much great info posters collect, especially Saty.  Thanks folks.

I'm getting a clear picture that just about all players have come back in great nick.  They heeded Roos challenge at the BnF  '...success starts now - not when preseason begins...'

It bodes very well!

Thanks LH but when you have a poster like DS posting a perfect summation of the drills, leaves me free to check out other stuff and post

The training has gone up another notch from last year with Roos, which went up from the year before, and the year before, everybody is on the same page, knows exactly what is going to transpire during the session, each person has a role, like watching a well oiled machine

Plus we have players who have a settled future and thanks to Roos and now Goodwin, can see the light at the end of the tunnel,  Hogan is a completely different beast, all the contract rubbish is out of the way, the perceived weight on his shoulders as a saviour is lifted (like Watts)  he has returned in fabulous nick and is leading the way at training

I have also spoken to a couple of them (no names in this instance), and following the end of season reviews they know exactly what is expected of them this year and what  the consequences will be if they don't produce

How's Gus Brayshaw moving around, he seemed to start last season quite slowly when he got back in the side but really moved well at the end of the year

Cheers for the updates Saty and DS much appreciated by those not living in Victoria

Gus is ok, as per interview on club website, just getting it done in the first week, was very smooth when they were doing the bring out and back in drills

Cheers for the training reports guys, hands down the best thing on Demonland and 99% of why i come on here.

Awesome thread, thanks everyone for all the clear and concise information.

I don't live too far away so I look forward to contributing where I can. Particularly looking forward to seeing the new players - for some reason I feel like Maynard and Smith might be bigger players than their Rookie status might suggest but I'm keen to see them in the flesh before I commit to that statement. Go Dees.

I was surprised that for somebody who has played basketball for a while, Maynard's skills are good

All reports appreciated.  Keep up the great work.

Thanks everyone - I am interstate and can't get there often but this all helps bout the annual optimism, but it is really different this year.

Went past the ground at about 11 this morning, may have been a bit later and I saw a couple of players still there on the wing near the tent set up, one player set off at full tilt around the boundary.  I'm not sure if he made it all the way around, or if that was the intention but he was going pretty quick and I could imagine that it would have been pretty tough lap.  Maybe they were taking it in turns, I couldn't see because I was in traffic and I was a passenger, we passed too quickly.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.
