I'm a little sad that a guy who seems a really good bloke leaves with negative comments about our club.  He does not seem to be aware of his shortcomings and that there is no room for a player whose role is to absorb some physical pressure.

I wouldn't be surprised if Roos really rated him, hence his mind-boggling selection most weeks he was actually fit, but Goodwin doesn't rate him. And he'd be right not to. The time is right for Chris to move on. 

He was paid a lot to do not very much for 4 years. Surprising lack of insight on his behalf to feel the club should keep him on.

The Dawes experiment in principle was merited. Could have gone really well  but alas, injury etc just nobbled him. Nice bloke. Wish him well.   Life goes on

Unfortunatelyy I think for Chris his EOC coincided with the changing of the guard( above )  Life's like that sometimes !!

Wouldn't mind him staying on in a non playing role as I believe he's an excellent mentor and Hogan and the other forwards apparently appreciated his guidance. If he can get over his delisting and wants to develop coaching skills, maybe a line assistant or similar might be an option. If he gets a gig elsewhere, so be it and good on him. He's still young enough to play if he can get his body right and work into some form. IMO the chances of this are slim, so he'll need a plan B.

If he doesn't get a gig at AFL level which looks unlikely I would like to see him as a line assistant but also continue to play at Casey and onfield mentor on Casey gamedays.. I think he could be of immense value - whilst we understand that his hands were below par, to have a player like Dawes at Casey - commitment to the contest, blocking/shepharding etc would be great learning experiences.

Agreed. He has a lot to offer beyond a senior list spot.

Our FD list is well balanced currently and we don't need a novice coach.

Our team is now past needing someone to absorb the physical pressure, particularly if they are not on the ground (injured) and more particularly if the opposition defenders don't show you any respect.

 

I'm pretty sure Viney, Tyson, Jones and Lewis can implement enough physical pressure we don't need a big forward that can't mark to absorb some. Best of luck Dawes you were a good servant but I will forever be amazed you could take overhead marks when you played against Melbourne but never could when you played for Melbourne.

Dawes was naturally disappointed as any player would be.

Any chance of the Dees picking him up as a rookie?

Backup if hogan or pederson are out and weids is not ready to play. 

We have had far worse rookies on our list in the past

I don't think Roos rated how much his contract was.  I would love to find the article, but I vaguely remember Roos saying that we were overpaying certain parts of our team, and he used some %'s to explain where the team was at, and that by the end of 2016 (I think), our list would've been at the right balance as far as who was getting paid what they should be.  No doubt Dawes was among those that were getting paid more for the output they provided.

It was Mahoney who talked about that.

Also, you can't backdate contracts in hindsight, so best to get over it.

Stuart, if you actually read the conversation that I was having with AF, you would've noticed that I was questioning how much Roos did actually rate Dawes (which AF believed that Roos may have rated CD quite highly).  My response was implying that Roos may have rated him, but it was highly likely that he didn't rate the contract that he was on, and they were making plans to bring more in to line to what they (the FD) believe he is worth and the end of said contract.

It's not about wanting to backdate contracts and me needing to "get over it", it's just contributing to the conversation, which is something you are quite incompetent at doing.
