Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I understand the need to leave James alone and that I don't have all the information but geez his old man didn't need to say anything did he? Just kept him in the media for another couple of weeks.

Maybe Hird snr also has a narcissistic streak and likes to see his own name in the papers and hear his voice on radio!

Re others' comments on James' mental health issues.  I don't doubt they are genuine but I do doubt the ASADA saga is the primary cause.  There have been enough not so oblique references in the news (even from his father's interview) to indicate the issues are deeply personal.

The AFL/ASADA et al are convenient red herrings.  That isn't necessarily a bad thing to protect the family but a better way of protecting them is to simply shut up!

I can't believe Steve Dank is letting Hird go through this. I mean he has all of the evidence to exculpate everyone involved!

Is that what Hird senior was referring to as "people that have let James down".

I think we should give James Hird a break for the time being. I have no time for him and consider him a liar and a cheat, but at this time we should talk about other issues. If his family keep breaking their please leave us alone request then we can reopen the flood gates.

Why? This is a discussion site, and he and his family are a worthy point of discussion.

If no laws are being broken, why give the man a break of any kind? This website is not about to push him over the edge.

I see no reason at all to close the thread.

And Jab, ya drug cheat, hand back the bloody medal!!!

Oh yeah, he's a serial publicity seeker, isn't he.  He is just doing what most Fathers would do, who are fed up with their son being put through the wringer, whether you think it is his fault or not.

As for your hypothesis as to what may be causing James Hird's mental health problems, neither you, nor anybody on DL or in the media can know.  Let's hope you never know personally.  Just leave the guy alone.  Think of him what you will, but it is poor form to continually speculate.

Ok, the publicity seeker comment was rather tongue-in-cheek.

You are quite right I don't know the issues but I was not speculating.  In fact, I chose to not quote the comments made about the personal issues by his father.

And I stand by the point that if, as a father, Hird snr wanted to protect his son and his family he would say nothing.

I see you find the commentary on here in poor taste and if it upsets you so, maybe its best to not open the thread for a while.  In the meantime I'm happy to let the moderators delete anything they feel is inappropriate.

I can't see why this thread should be closed, though the temporary halt may have been reasonable given the circumstances.    There are issues around the saga which don't involve Hird directly which are perfectly reasonable for discussion eg. where is Jobe's medal.  And if they do involve Hird directly, then we should be able to rely on posters to make appropriate comments. Those that don't should be dealt with in the usual way, rather than surpressing an entire topic.

I wish it was closed, permanently.

I know some want to maintain the rage, but, thanks to the endless appeals, we've had this saga shoved down our throats for too long now.

Whats left to discuss? Who cares where Jobe's medal is? Let's assume he still has it, what value does it have - it's not like he can pawn it on the black market, or even show it to anyone. It's a medal of shame. I don't care if it's sitting in his sock drawer.

I know I don't have to read it, but I'm sick of even seeing it as the next unread thread, just like I'm sick of seeing it in the media. If I was a Bomber supporter and I came on here and saw that everyone's knickers were still in a twist about it, I'd laugh my head off.

It does nothing except perpetuate the us-against-them mentality they so desperately want to foster with their solidarity walks or whatever they called.

At what point do we say enough is enough?

I thought this was locked.  Leave the guy alone.  To me it is the height of arrogance for anyone to suggest what is the current state of mind of James Hird or what may have caused it.  Just let it be for now.  Keyboard warriors should think about just how squeaky clean they may be in their anonymous world - or perhaps their closets are also bursting with skeletons.

This is: 'the-bombers-doping-saga-the-fat-lady-sings' thread. Not the James Hird thread, why would it be locked?

You do realise that this was reignited by statements made by Stephen Amendola  in Saturdays Herald-Sun and Allan Hird on 3AW and TV. The discussion now is about their hypocrisy in coming out with the old malarkey and allegations at a time when Hird's wife and others were saying leave him alone.

Saturdays article included a false statement that the AFL had blocked Hird being employed by SEN. This was refuted by both the AFL and SEN and published, but in a much smaller article on Tuesday. Hird senior probably based his allegation that the AFL was still harassing his son on that 'false news'  article.

Amendola is trying to cover his a**e, (following all the poor advice he have Hird), by again blaming everyone else, - as did Hird senior.

Both the Amendola and Hird senior statements were sickening and shouldn't be allowed to pass uncontested.

Grape, we still watch documentaries about the Nazi's so I suspect at least another 50 years of this thread. So if we want to discuss these issues why not let us use this site? So long as we avoid certain issues let us have our fun.

Jobe is a disgrace for not handing the medal back, we may have to add thief to our vitriol about him.

I find it unusual that he hasn't yet made the trip to Melbourne to see James....

There may be a good reason but out of anything he had to say this is the only thing that stuck with me.

The thread was reopened on the basis of the reported improvement in Hird's condition. That does not mean that it is open for people to be insensitive to his mental condition or that of others who suffer similarly. Please don't offend here.

Discussion on other aspects including Hird Senior's comments is topical and permitted as long as it doesn't stray over the red lines alluded to in the opening paragraph.

WJ. Do we just disregard that he brought all of this on himself. Now playing the victim card when all things regarded this is the polar opposite of the truth.

I have some sympathy on the kiddywinkies who got bamboozled along the way ( but was still theirs to decide )

The Hirds of the world are what stains this game. Sorry Jack i cant abide the kid gloves.

I do feel sorry for his kids though.

After Tania's request for family privacy most people and including the media were ready to respect the family wishes but it appears Hird apologists have taken the opportunity to retake the high moral ground. Tania who was once head cheerleader has been quiet for over a year. It appears she wants nothing more of the media circus.  HIrd's lawyer and Nathan Buckley's comments were not necessary and inflamitory and according to 3AW it was Hird senior who called them to vent.

Beeb, we need to be sensitive to mental illness issues and depression that afflict so many. The rub off on others is a concern and should be dealt with appropriately.

Personally I am happy to take off the gloves regarding other aspects of Hird's public life. I too, feel sorry for his kids.

Tania's request for privacy resulted in the Herald Sun publishing 5 pages of coverage. I wonder what they would have done without that request?

Well the Herald Sun was Hird's biggest media supporter along with Fox throughout the saga and still are. Make of that what you will. I got the impression the request for privacy had more to do with the media horde camped outside the Hird home.

The simple fact that he is such a weasel that he wants to keep a medal tainted by drug cheating, is enough reason for me to want the rage to continue.

BB, we can't say Hird is playing the victim card himself.  He appears to have a genuine problem which everyone should be sympathetic to, even if you feel others with a similar problem may be more deserving of sympathy.  But it is irking when the EFC fan club uses his current situation to play the victim card over the entire saga.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
