Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

An interesting piece of intrigue:  "...as the AFL still refused to say where Watson’s medal was and whether he had given it back".

That has a hollow ring of truth - if it was given back they would say so, right?

Probably part of the 'deal', something like - no problem, Jobe, yeah just tell the media you will give it back but tuck Charlie away in a bottom draw for a while and keep it quiet.

Set up right there for some future amnesty and 'return' of the medal to 'poor Jobe'...probably to coincide with his intro to he "Hall of Shame Fame".

The AFL are truly a disgrace.  Many of us have said it on DL, if it wasn't for the love of the Dees I would give AFL away.

100% of the reason I am still interested LH.

Otherwise I would be following the Amos.

Rather, it's pretty clear what you think Mitchell thinks.

It's possible that Mitchell detests Jobe; that Mitchell likes Jobe and feels any discussion is unhelpful; that Mitchell has decided that private conversations should remain private; that Mitchell had always intended speaking to Jobe after the awards ceremony; that Mitchell had spoken to Jobe and made a promise not to speak to the media; that Mitchell was sorry and embarrassed for his 'syringe mime' and therefore didn't want to be reminded of that should any comment he make result in him being asked about it. I could go on.

Mitchell actually said he had not spoken to Jobe.

There is more evidence to support my proposition than the 'possibilities' presented in that post.

Sam McLure in The Age saying Watson hasn't returned the medal and claims he's not sure of its whereabouts. Yeah, right.

HAND IT BACK JOBE!

"But after Watson decided – in his own words – to "hand it back" and the commission unanimously voted to give medals to runners-up Sam Mitchell and Trent Cotchin, the medal should have been returned. The fact that there are now three 2012 Brownlow Medals in circulation is a testament to the sheer absurdity of the situation."

So Jobe's refusing to give back the actual medal?

Makes his pathetic pontificating about how much he was a man of honour and intergrity even more vomit-worthy, if he cut one of Gil's famous deals to keep the medal in exchange for a PR statement.

And makes the AFL even more pathetic. To echo the above, I'd give this corrupt corporation (barely consider it a sport anymore) away were it not for the Dees.

Are we supporters to take it that a Brownlow Medal is missing, not insured presumably, and the AFL does not care. Thereby making it probably the most infamous Medal in History.

Our Footy forefathers would be pleased especially the memories of those War time connections on Anzac Days.

Getting close to a time that a certain Commemorative Foundation should review its participation maybe....

Yuk.

The whole thing makes me sick. The entire narrative that News Corp have attempted to form around the Essendon players is disgusting and hypocritical beyond belief.

Watson should give back the physical medal. But in the overall scheme of things, it's not really that important. The physical medal is just a symbol of the award itself. Cotchin and Mitchell are the worthy winners of the award and whether they had been presented with a physical medal or not will be referred to as such in all the record books and in their personal resumes.

Conversely, just because Watson is still in possession of the physical medal, does anyone here think that means he's still a Brownlow medallist?

No, but symbolically it does make a statement about the contrived nature of the AFL, and Watson himself - who said one thing and did another.

You're right the physical medial isn't a massive issue in of itself. But what it says about those surrounding the issue I would argue is quite significant.

The fact that he retains the physical medal is a sly acknowledgement that the AFL don't actually believe he's a drug cheat. It's wrong, and it send the wrong message. It also undermines the symbolic value of the other two (legitimate) medals.

Of course it matters whether Jab has returned his tainted Brownlow. It is not his to keep. Physically or in the Record Books.

I wish people would stop going soft on this cheat.

If anyone was in any doubt about his being a drug cheat, his not returning the physical medal because he 'doesn't know where it is' should set your mind at rest and remove any doubts about his propensity to cheat.   If the AFL does not demand it back (and preferably melt it down so it does not become an expensive collectors item) it will be yet more evidence that the AFL has no integrity.

Perhaps I am naive, but until now, I did not realise that the medal had not been physically handed back.  I agree with the above and more so, that the AFL has basically neutered itself through years of inaction on integrity matters.  In other words, grow some gonads AFL.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
