We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

2016 Player Review - # 8 Heritier Lumumba

Interesting that he now needs to play nearly every game to trigger the fourth year of his contract. It really is make or break this year

With Lumumba's concussion history and competition for spots he has his work cut out for him.  He is a proud guy and it may just be enough of a challenge for him for us to see his very best work.

But if this comment from Ralph is correct: "Ultimately he chose not to return to football in the last months of the year despite medicos clearing him to return to the game if he felt he was ready" Lumumba may need to work extra hard on his motivationAnd I wonder if that has cost him respect among his teammates or make them wonder whether they can rely on him 'in the trenches'.

The ball is in his court.

Big competition for half back spots.

Lets hope the Prince reeks vengeance on those who ever doubted his royal supremacy.

And then they will truly know  ,whatever  and such ,that he is the true heir etc.

Cant get over this. I love Hunt becasue he is young exciting and brave but what he does is exactly what H does... He runs hard and uses his speed to disrupt the opponent zone. Even if his disposal is dodgy it is the run and carry that they are after. If H draws 1 or 2 defenders out of the zone then he has done his job and its then up to the forwards to win the ball wherever he kicks it. Look at JJ in the grand final, his disposal was atrocious and he still won the Norm Smith because of his disruptive run.

This is so misguided. No coach wants to see the ball run out of defence and turned straight over.

And LJ winning the Norm Smith is irrelevant yet you are saying it doesn't matter if a player turns the ball over, so long as he runs and creates some disruption? All because he might win a subjective award? OMG

What a joke. The doctors clear him to play, but he decides he'd rather not. Then when he figures out he needs to play every game next year to trigger a contract extension, he expects the club to put him straight back in.

If the guy is serious about playing senior football again, he should front up with the kids for training this week. The extra month of holidays is for the guys who busted their guts last year, not for guys who couldn't be bothered playing. Plus, I'm pretty sure he still owes us for taking a trip to Africa when he was recovering from injury last pre season.

I've never seen a guy less interested in doing the work required to be an AFL player. I hope he is prepared to spend plenty of time at Casey next year, because hopefully we have moved well past gifting games to experienced players who are happy to coast along.

The contract was 3 years + 1 option based on particular criteria which until now we didn't know what that was.  Jon Ralph may be guessing a little as he doesn't say how many games Lumumba needs to play to trigger the option year.  One would guess approx 18.

With Lumumba's concussion history and competition for spots he has his work cut out for him.  He is a proud guy and it may just be enough of a challenge for him for us to see his very best work.

Agree with your comments LH.

I actually think the ball has moved on and whatever chance he had of playing regularly this coming season disappeared last year when he would not return for the last few weeks of the season. IMO the FD has moved on from HL.

He may have some use at Casey but IMO without substantial injuries I find it difficult to see him getting enough games up this year to see him at the MFC in 2018.

I don't know about that. Remember the story about 6 yrs ago of players deciding they didn't want to do the time trial so cancelling it on behalf of the coaches? Was that Gys?

And I agree with yours od:rolleyes:

Given the little amount of football he played last year and as a sign of commitment it would have been good for him to have started his preseason today rather than in 4 weeks time.  His situation is not unlike Hibberd and Melksham ie a year out and they fronted up today...maybe he has also moved on...

Seriously?

Did you miss the "return to the game if he felt he was ready" part of what you quoted? Clearly he didn't feel ready, he knows his body better than the medicos who can only go by external factors. There's also the fact that knowing he needs to show his best he may have wanted to wait til after preseason given he would have been on light (if any) duties for a lot of his time out. I would say having a bloke who wants to be sure he can perform before coming back in is someone you would want "in the trenches", rather than a guy who would be pushing his luck to perform at the time.

Did you see Angus when he first came back from concussion? Why would you want to risk being rusty and not able to perform when your career is on the line? Especially as he's just watched his premiership team mate get the boot after coming back too soon time after time and never performing to his own standards.

Nice to see you up and about stuie nice to see you up and about defending the the Prince.

i fear he will go the same route as old iron hands.

time has passed him by.

The twilight of his career I feel is going to be very dim.

He's absolutely at the tail end of his career and he has things to prove next year, but I find the assertion that he doesn't have the respect of the other players a bit far fetched and just another thinly veiled dig at a standard Demonland target.

I have no idea what the playing group thinks of him.

However I know a lot of Demons supporters and none of them have any time for him.

Now we are not always the best at picking a players value however I see him in the same light as a number of other players at the MFC over the 2014/5 period. We were desperate for any reasonable ability player with experience.

HL is almost the last of those players left.

IMO he will be like Grimes was last year play well at Casey but unless there are a lot of injuries the FD have a number of others they would rather play for the medium to long term.

We're basing team selection for 6 months time on the opinion of a few Demon supporters you know and how much time they have for him?

Righto then...

They wanted to delist him this year but feared the ramifications would be costly from a PR standpoint.  Instead they'll let it happen naturally.  Every chance he just walks out mid season - hopefully without fuss.

This guy is simply deranged.  The extreme opposite of Mitch Clark.  I hope we have better psych screening of players from here on.

The game, and the team, has moved on a fair way since H played senior footy regularly.

It is up to him to show if he is still up to it - can't expect any favours.  IF he pushes himself with strong performances then yes he may have something to offer, but IMVHO he will be depth for 2017.

Stuie, I asked a question: If...

I did not assert anything.  Last time I looked 'assertion' meant a confident and forceful statement of fact or belief.  I can see whose coment is closer to an assertion.

Fair enough, assertion was probably the wrong word. Just found that comment you made about the players not respecting him or doubting him "in the trenches" a bit of an overreaction and the type of Lumumba-bashing post I usually expect from others, not yourself.

Shame we don't have more screening for Demonland posters sometimes....

At his best and our worst he would get a game. But as others have mentioned, he appears past his best and our list now has depth and has strengthened over the past 12 months.  We have some dash and depth. Some of his brain fades and turnovers can be as bad as you get. A high skill level with a reduced count on hand and foot turnovers is all important.  We need more than dash. I truly hope he can prove me wrong and he can have a great 2018 and not an unproductive season playing at Casey. However, Lumumba has been around long enough for me to think that 2018 will be his final season. As shown by Chris Dawes, Jack Grimes and others time waits for no man.

Hi Ernest do you mean 2018 or as I think 2017?

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
