Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

I think they'll trade Gibbs and get all those ex GWS players for pick 13 plus something else from the Crows in the Gibbs deal.

Trading out Yarran, Henderson and Menzel worked perfectly last year. Gibbs and Touhy are far more reliable players but you have to give something to get something when rebuilding and they just have very little to offer up.

They are adding average players because their list is rubbish and it's better to clear it out aggressively than hold on to battlers who are so bad they aren't even recognisable names. I wish GWS were around to dump 4 for 1 deals on when our list was a complete mess in 2012-2014. Instead we end up keeping Matt Jones, Terlich, Newton, Spencer, Michie, Bail types on for years. Guys like Kerridge, Wright, Sumner, Lamb at least offer fresh faces and able bodies.

They had 4 top 20 or so picks last year (3 of them were talls) plus Plowman. If I'm right they'll have pick 5, Marchbank and Pickett coming in this year. They've gone a long way to securing the spine which is a long term investment that usually doesn't show immediate results. If they get long term results from Weitering, Marchbank, Plowman, backline trio, Kreuzer/Phillips ruck, Curnow and McKay forward then they've got years to add midfielders. They'll probably start with pick 5 this year and get a very nice talent. The experienced B + C grade mids can provide the support for the young talls to develop and then once that happens it's easy to throw mids in.

I'm not sure the Blues 'faithful' can wait that long. I'm betting they assemble an average to middle of the road list and then panic and bow to supporter pressure, which will sink them even further.

Deal done:

Hanley and Pick 67 (PA) to Gold Coast

2017 1st Rnd Pick (PA) and Pick 22 (GC) to Brisbane

Pick 19 (Bris) and Pick 30 (GC) to Port Adelaide

Go home Port, you're drunk...

Very strange deal from Port.  They essentially give up a first round pick for 2 second round picks, yet the pick they gave up has a high chance of landing inside the Top 10.  Surely GC could have got this deal done on their own, possibly coughing up something like Pick 8 for Hanley and Pick 22?

The only thing I can think of is they have a trade lined up that they needed those picks for. Still 2 and a bit days to go, be interesting to see if they make a move.

Haha that's a disaster for Port you would think?

I would expect their pick next season to be around pick 7-10.

If anyone wants to play around with how much points are worth in trade deals try this - https://www.draftguru.com.au/pick-value-calculator

Basically shows that the Port deal must see them finish in the top 8 to win the trade, 9th and it's win-win and any lower and they lose. On the other hand it shows our trades with Gold Coast last year were around the same mark (trade that got us Oliver & Weid), and that the add on to that trade with GWS that got us higher in the draft order meant Bugg came to us around pick 53.

Yep. Weird trade. Something else must be on the cards for them. Surely...

A certain Carlton player wants to come home to Adelaide... There are TWO teams in Adelaide... One is not getting anywhere with pick 13 + a player... The other has just received some handy picks from Brisbane...

Do the math

Didn't he nominate the Crows though? Would definitely test the whole "go home" thing. Interesting.

Will ensure another level of spite in the Showdowns for the next few years... Also explains Carlton's move on B grade GWS players if they can strengthen their draft position this year

With Hogan coming out saying he was a 50/50 chance to head home but the future was to bright at Melbourne is more of a powerful statement than landing a big fish this year. Hopefully with a better season next year for the club it opens the doors for a big fish to want to be part of it.

I actually think the club half think we've got the "big fish" in house, that along with Hogan, guys like Trac, Oliver, Weid, Gus, Hunt etc. that one or more of them will become an elite of the comp. We're just a little impatient, but I suspect we'll fill in the gaps with role players (Lewis is the one out of the box but comes with experience), so we get to the point where the team has 2 or 3 elite, 5 - 8 A graders, then a heap of solid B graders.

They're at AFL House putting the paperwork in for Lewis.  It's getting scary - In my best 22 I can't find room for Wagner, Salem ,Stretch, Harmes or Brayshaw.  If you do find room for them, then someone just as good misses out.  At last we've got about 10 - 12 guys able to run through the middle.

Hawk vice-captain Jordan Lewis is now a Demon.

Hawthorn will receive picks 48 and 66 in exchange for Lewis.

Melbourne will also receive picks 57 and 68.

Hawk coach Alastair Clarkson said:

“Jordan has been a big part of this football club for the last 12 years and he will be sorely missed by the players, coaches and staff.

“He has given great service to the Hawks and his leadership both on and off the field has been invaluable.

“It is never easy to part ways with a champion of the club, but we have got to this point through mature and open conversations with the best interests of both Jordan and the club at heart."

Not sure what your 22 looks like but Wagner should be nowhere near it. Not a bad player, but clearly depth.

So we picked him up for a late-40's and late-60s slide of 11 places in the draft in total?

Wow!

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
