To be fair it does take time to schedule a hearing, set up the tribunal to hear it, formulate the charges, prepare your case and interview all witnesses, book Counsel, have them prepare the Defence, interview witnsesses etc.

You also have to want to do it ( really )

Close up the afl seem to do things but step back far enough and their real methodology comes into focus. They play charades !!!

This is  typical AFL they do no forward planning. This event has been know for over a year but as usual they wait till the decision is handed down and then say. Ok what do we do now. Oh we need a plan, can't do much till the next commission meeting as we need their guidance. Oh is that six weeks away.

Ok what's next what is the price of pies going to be in 2017?

Unless it is screwing a supplier then as you say they don't really want to do it.

But all the recruiters told us this wasn't a great draft and we traded away picks to get players earlier

Also the rumoured lost picks would have been 15 and 37. They probably  could have negotiated that. They still had pick 2 and a lot later on, to use as points.

This is a good draft Red. Don't kid yourself.

The AFL waited for a good reason.

They want GW$ in next years GF

I am not kidding my self, I am merely accepting what we have been told by the various club recruiters and media gurus, that this years draft is not a great one.

Second, it is your contention that the players drafted by GWS this year, will get them in the 2017 GF.

Interesting.

Yes it is. They were thwarted by those smelly Western Dogs this year

Good afternoon Mr. leg.  I think my opinion and many others  is that the AFL are all song and little dance.

GWS is the love child and they will beat their chest about penalities but the reality is they will be modest.

It also suits their purpose to have GWS defy them just before the draft.

Am I a cynic about the AFL.

YES.

Not arguing that.

My argument is that once it was out, the AFL wanted to do a deal and GWS refused and now the AFL has to stand up to them.

BTW, you have to love the argument of GWS. We are innocent, because the officials went rogue. In other words they acted against the club's guidelines.

If that Defence works, the Bombers will be a trifle unhappy.

It would mean you could never hold an organization accountable, as you just blame the individual for doing the wrong thing.

The AFL will laugh at that defence.

BTW, the MFC never authorized CC to make that joke in the vault either. It was a rogue joke. But we did a deal.

Agreed. GWS held their own internal investigation and cleared Allan and Lambert and continued employing them.  But apparently now they were "rogue".  GWS should be punished more severely for taking the pizz

Very good point there F5, I had completely forgotten their 'internal investigation'!

As Redleg pointed out, their defence was a mockery before. Once you add this it's looking shaky to the extreme.

I believe AFL Rule 27 (D)  provides heavy sanctions for "taking the pizz".

It is hardly used though the Essendrug 34 have been taking it out of Gil for years without penalty

People, just because the penalty if found guilty, hasn't bred dealt this year, nothing stops it being dealt next year and harder.

Redleg - I think you miss the point.  They have already been allowed to rape and pillage yet another draft.  "Harsh penalties" next year will mean little.

They have had ample time to hit them hard this year but squirmed and deceived and conspired not to, because they didn't want to.

I agree with you here Monoccular. And, for mine, the AFL is not interested in redressing any of the inequalities. Someone may correct me here, but my understanding is that whilst we will now all have 'academies' and associated regions, regular clubs (as opposed to Phat Phil's) will not be able to have dibs on a player but merely rookie him if he is not selected in the main draft. Not quite the same as pocketing away absolute stars prior to the draft itself. Gil is a pumped up poonce who's all pi55 and wind.

I guess you are correct as wet tram tickets are a bit scarce these days.

I am sticking with my prediction that they will cop a fair penalty, if for no other reason, than to show the other clubs that they are not immune to punishment.

Also, probably more importantly, if they let them off on this defence of "individuals are guilty, not the club" no club will be guilty of anything again and some clubs may be looking for compensation for past penalties.

I will believe it when it happens until then I will remain a sceptic

The thread title needs to be rephrased

Lachie Whitfield: under-investigation

The AFL have totally missed any opportunity to even pretend that they are even-handed and committed to WADA and ASADA, and penalizing breaches of their agreed rules

Obfscation, lies, back room deals, cover ups.......

So typical of AFL standards.

Not starting any rumours, but wouldn't it be funny if the Gov was looking at the AFL, and i heard it on TWITFACE (my new word)
