As you've already posted, nothing will hurt them draft wise next year. The AFL/GWS commission had no intention of handing out sanctions this year as they had a few academy kids to land.

They will pretend to be tough next year when the horse has bolted.

One things for certain, if they get in a position to win a flag I won't be watching.

I absolutely hate with a passion the way the AFL are setting them up. If I wasn't a rusted on supporter and we weren't on the up I would leave the game...

I think the AFL are not pleased with the Giants. They wanted to impose a penalty to show the other clubs that they are not their darlings. The Giants refused to play ball.

The AFL will do now what they do best , exact revenge.

That said, the Giants are in such a strong talent position, that no penalty of a few lost picks will hurt them.

They will merely trade a couple of excess players for picks, to replace those lost.

I must be missing something, because to me, what you are saying is illogical Red.

I can see why some here simply cannot believe that the afl is serious about this. The AFL runs the game (with eddies permission of course). They had the opportunity to hit the Giants with penalties prior to the draft, but once again tried to "negotiate", rather than simply announce a penalty. And now that the Giants crossed their arms and said "no", we have the farcical situation where today we watch the Giants plunder yet another draft, while raising their middle finger to the games supposed overlords.

What was there to deal over? The AFL could have simply made a call, and announced it whenever they like. It couldn't be a matter of the commission not meeting prior to the draft, as the decision could have been made to recall them earlier. They don't assemble on Mars, and Skype etc is available anywhere in the country.

Gil and his lackeys are jellybacks of the highest order, or complicit in a charade.

You have forgotten one thing, GWS have the right to say they are innocent, whether they are or not.

The AFL negotiated a deal with the individuals and thought that the Club would follow suit. At the death knock they refused. That means any hearing of the issue will take place after the draft and this year's picks are kept.

I am very confident that the AFL is not happy about this and because of all the flack about how much they have helped the Giants, wanted to show the other clubs that they were now just another club.

The AFL will, if they find GWS guilty, will hit them harder than the proposed deal would have.

They could use the fixture but that's unlikely.

Just thinking aloud, the only thing that may hurt them is changing the academy zones which should happen anyway. They shouldn't have the Riverina area. Can't see that happening as part of a penalty though.

The AFL have set it up 'Red', it's a charade. When they announced the individual penalties they then said that Andrew Dillon will look at any potential club penalty. Dill said Dillon may not finish his deliberations in time to effect this years draft.

Guess What? he didn't.

The pie man has yet to show he can be ruthless at anything concerning the love child.

They can proclaim their innocence, just as essedon has done. Should not have made any difference to the end game as this has been "investigated" (hidden) for 1 year. Plenty of time for the AFL to determine guilt, and issue a suitable penalty. 

Like I said in my original post, convene an earlier sitting of the commission, and get it done.

But of course, as most of us suspected, they did nothing that would affect GWS draft position. Window dressing from here, to appear tough I expect.

I'm not claiming there will be no penalty. In fact, I am very confident that there will be.

My argument is that there was no reason for it to be dragged out until after this draft.

Correct but we all know the AFL.

Bad publicity is always delayed and delayed until their media mates get on board to soften the public up for a soft result.

And don't forget we are talking about GWS here if it was The Dogs or us the penalty would have been served up a year ago.

They sat on this whole problem for a year. It was only a media leak that got it into the public domain and then something had to be done.

But all the recruiters told us this wasn't a great draft and we traded away picks to get players earlier

Also the rumoured lost picks would have been 15 and 37. They probably  could have negotiated that. They still had pick 2 and a lot later on, to use as points.

My argument is that once it was out, the AFL wanted to do a deal and GWS refused and now the AFL has to stand up to them.

BTW, you have to love the argument of GWS. We are innocent, because the officials went rogue. In other words they acted against the club's guidelines.

If that Defence works, the Bombers will be a trifle unhappy. 

It would mean you could never hold an organization accountable, as you just blame the individual for doing the wrong thing.

The AFL will laugh at that defence.

BTW, the MFC never authorized CC to make that joke in the vault either. It was a rogue joke. But we did a deal.

To be fair it does take time to schedule a hearing, set up the tribunal to hear it, formulate the charges, prepare your case and interview all witnesses, book Counsel, have them prepare the Defence, interview witnesses and ensure their availability, etc.
