He's gone from rubbish early this year to very handy.

Still bloody frustrating at times, but to be honest all our players are because we're undeniably a dopey team

When Dom ball handling is clean and his ball use is up, he's a really valuable player.

However, being the pure inside midfielder that he now is, if his ball handling is down and kicking and handballing is off he almost becomes a liability on the field.

That's not an exaggerated comment. It's the truth. Dom is a really one-dimensional player in that he only has a few strong attributes which limits him positionally. He is also really one-paced now which limits his ability to run hard to position defensively.

When you look at his highlights from GWS, he seemed to be able to cover the ground a lot quicker and could burst away from packs. In my eyes he almost looks like a different player. I think the club identified him as a pure inside mid and the way his body shape and style has changed suggests that his individualised weight program has also changed from what he had at GWS..

One thing I've always worried about is our  pace and skill level through the midfield. Jones, Tyson, Oliver, Viney, Brayshaw and Petracca are all see ball/get ball players instinctively. They naturally gravitate to the contest. And if they're down on skill-level or ball handling like on Saturday, we get absolutely chopped up on the outside because our mids almost play like bees to the honey pot. It was the exact same against Essendon earlier this year.

Definitely something that worries me. It's an attribute imbalance atm.

Here is Dom early days anyway. I think he looks and plays in a much more explosive way in these clips.

Tyson looks absolutely electric in those hightlights, WTF happened to his pace?

The most dangerous goal kicker of our midfield. We need goals from the midfield, unfortunately Jones is not one and Vince not any more

He is great around goals. Good thing about the new wave of midfield types coming through us that patracca, vanders, brayshaw like a goal. I reckon with hunt and Salem on wings there will be more goals

tyson is underrated in general I reckon. Still learning, improving his awareness and getting his body right. In 2-3 years will be a star. Our Luke hodge

I'm not seeing a stark difference in his pace from those highlights tbh Steve. He does look quicker but nothing jaw dropping.

He's been a great pick up and looks to have his eyes firmly set on the ultimate prize.

I had no idea he was close mates with T Mac either. Wouldn't have picked that.

Actually now that I think about it, they might practice kicking together... (couldn't help it)

Dom ruptured his PCL at GWS which put a dent in the rate of his career progression, and on his top-end speed. By his own admission he was always going to be an inside midfielder but also reads the ball very well and has an ability to find space when he puts games together, as we've seen this year. We're yet to see his very best, and as someone else mentioned on here, he'll be a Brownlow darling for some years to come. His goalkicking and play creation are still on the rise.

It's not electric, but he definitely seems to be able to switch gears with more ease or something?

Regardless, I'm not too concerned at this point. His best for us is very very good as we've seen but it's his worst that I don't want to see for much longer going forward.

Bridge the gap and he'll certainly be a top player for us for a long time. There is a difference between having a 'quiet' game and a game where you're consistently making errors with ball-in-hand and giving it up to the opposition. And they're the games Dom needs to leave behind.

Perennially and criminally underrated around these parts.

Agreed, I know that Gawn and Viney are likely front runners for the B&F but Tyson is my smokey his year has been fantastic particularly his second half, he will come home with a wet sail.

Miles into his legs have changed him. This is a highlight reel from a young burst player who couldn't do it all day over a season.

Now he's a consistent clearance player, and we expect him to get to the next clearance, and the one after that. He's a constant mover now, not a burst player.

Also, its worth noting the opposition in a lot of those highlights.

Yes, good points HBT. With a good preseason I am optimistic his 2017 will be a big one.

Hang on. What?

I mean he's not the crash and bash traditional inside player like Viney, Jones, and Oliver. He's more silky than them, I suppose he's able to find the ball with more finesse.

Dunno what else to tell you, for me I haven't seen him as that much of an inside player. More outside with good inside abilities. :P Obviously I was wrong!

And he is also one of the best looking players on our list.

And that stuff counts.

It does for Miss Deeko who has taken a bit of an interest in football after creeping on Dom.

Means more games I get to attend.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
