Some take seasons to win me over.

Hibberd took 5 minutes.

Gun.

5 minutes? Jeez, where were you for the first 4?

Actually 5 minutes is probably fair - took that long for Richmond to get the ball in their half in that game.

I thought Hibberd would be good but I didn't expect him to instantly hit his straps, thought he might take a while to get going. You wouldn't know he had an interrupted pre-season on top of 12 months out.

How funny is it seeing Essendon sooking about their suspended players looking flat? Hibberd is going okay, maybe your players are just crap?

He makes our team 10% better instantly, not only because he is a good player but because he takes pressure off other players around him which allows them to play better.

I love that Essendon fans were booing him, yet they will lay down the red carpet for Jame Hird to return to their club.

I remember watching him play in his Essendon days. He was the defender who stood out the most other than Hurley. His kicking was amongst the best in the AFL. Glad he still has the touch. Surprised Essendon let him go so easily.

The things i noticed were the cuddles he got trying to soften his approach to the game from several TWSNBN players at different times during the game, but it didn't work, did it?

Dare i say Bluey....fair bit of catching up obviously....

2 great games out of 2

Hibberd has balance and knows what he wants to do. He is not hoping.

I wasn't keen on getting Essendrug players but i think Hibberd is going to earn his spot.

Not so sure about his mate, but Goodwin ikes him...

I agree SWYL but they were going to come back and play somewhere so why penalise ourselves.

after two games it appears we have one good player and one average one.

Not a bad result. If that was the result with all players recruited over a short time we would be in a GF.

Anyone else notice that when Hibberd kicks the football, he generally hits the target?

What is this madness?

I was happy to get him but didn't expect him to be this good.

Our trading and drafting last October gets a big tick. Hibberd for a pick in the late 20s, Lewis for peanuts and Hannan in the 40s are all wins. Unfortunately the Melksham trade is n't looking quite as rosy.

I'm calm when he has the ball in his hands, haven't been able to say that about too many Dees backmen for a long time bar Salem and now Lewis when he is down back.

I know.... it's insane. God forbid it could catch on

A couple of Hibberd kicks yesterday looked a bit wonky but I can tell you the Bomber blitzers would rather still have him. He is a major get for us make no mistake.

Pretty pathetic from Essendon fans to boo any of the players who left after being injected with god knows what. But then again, what more would you expect from a club that is labelling this season a "comeback" as if they are some hero soldiers returning from war, and not a bunch of drug cheaters returning from a suspension!

Some fun reading on the first two pages :)

Makes for interesting reading. I had sympathy for the "not a priority" camp at the time, but in hindsight ProDee nailed it with his "he's better than all of them" argument. There's no doubt we are better off with him in the side. He's also a much better player than I realised.

As long as he stays on the park he will make a run at the Bluey, he is that good.

Speaking of the BLuey, this will be the best count in a long, long time. Last years winner JV would have barely polled so far , while Oliver and Watts are surely leading.

Not so reliable your friend.....

He's missed more games than he's played so far...

Quality footballer when fit. Wasn't fit when he rocked up to the club in November. I hope he gets a clear run at it now for a long time, but my expectations are more that he'll have to be managed at times as well so he's in peak fitness for important times.

Very few showed any interest in him at all, let's be honest.

I don't get bragging rights very often (or at all) so I'm milking that one to the last drop.

Thought he was a player at essendon, but wasn't overly impressed by his preseason and Casey form for us.  Figured he'd need 6 months to fully hit his straps after the suspension and injury.

I was completely wrong. He intuitively understands the speed of the game at senior level and reads the play like it's a Grug book.

A fine addition to the team!

Interesting that Pies and Bombers fans boo their ex players, but cheer ex players of other clubs, who are now playing for them.

Hypocrites of the highest order.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
