I wonder if Dunn and our third roudner (46) for the Lions pick 30 might be a go?

Don't think Brisbane want him anymore as they've committed to Frost.

I actually think Port Adelaide would be our best bet to trade with given the early retirement of Carlisle and they're light on for tall defenders anyway,

Dunn & Pick 64 for Pick 47 I think is reasonable.

As for Hibberd, I have no issue giving them what is currently Pick 28 and could fall to 30.

Hibberd deal.

Brisbane came to us about Dunn yesterday, so they clearly haven't lost interest. It said that we'd spoken to a number of clubs yesterday. I wonder what about?

Definitely a fairer deal. I just wonder, with the way GWS have built themselves and the success of the Doggies, if draft picks have become even more valuable for a club basically rebuilding from scratch?

Interesting. Thanks DL5

I dont claim to be in thr know but i can't see the lions giving up pick 30 for Dunn who isn't even playing afl.

Will be interesting to see how it plays out

I reckon that's more of a reflection on you rather than the posters trying to convince you, it's really not as complicated as you're trying to make it.

You mean it reflects that I have a different opinion to others which may or may not be correct

We likely just did the rounds a little bit I think. This year they scrapped the compulsory meetings between clubs on day 1 which meant every club had to meet at some stage, so we might have done a mini version of that just to do our due diligence.

I reckon that's a pretty soft attitude, if you're waiting for the facts to come out on the Essendon saga you'll be waiting for a while, reckon they're with the records.

All quiet on the Western Front, just being dificult or something else in the way?

I'm thinking someone else in the gun with a complicated deal that includes year 12 Maths and effectively rules out most other teams.

If we arent prepared to lose out on Hibberd then just give them our second. Otherwise hold out until the last day and potentially keep this years second round pick. For all we know Jason Taylor could have someone in mind for this years draft.

Next years second round pick is fair in my opinion. Especially considering we've had to wait a year for Melksham.

In fairness (and I actually feel quite ill saying this of the drug cheats) that ain't their problem  - it is ours

Unfortunately neither of you are part of Essendon's trade week team, if we land Hibberd it will be a deal that is suitable to both clubs, nobody foresaw that the EFC players would be banned, it was supposedly done and dusted, Port must feel exactly the same about Ryder

I am sure if you could trawl your way through the "Welcome to MFC" thread from last year you could find many who thought just that.  It was I am sure a "calculated risk" by our recruiting team, who must have at least considered the possibility.

Reading Sheahan's column yesterday, if they do last that long, there were a couple of likely types who could be still around.  (Can't find the thread or post but it is here somewhere).

If we cannot get Hibberd so be it. That's not the end of the world. I would hope that we are not silly enough to entertain the idea of giving away any future picks.

I think Taylor takes more pleasure out of finding late picks, such as Oscar Mc and Jayden Hunt, we are stocked up on young talent, somebody of Hibberd's experience is obviously first priority    but who knows

On an individual basis the late pick gems would surely give recruiters the most joy but adding talent consistently year after year is the point of their jobs so if I was a recruiter I'd be frustrated if I didn't have a pick in the first 2 rounds. I'd want to fully explore the option of trading a future 2nd round pick.

We have a nice group of young talent but we are a long way from fully stocked. We need more guys who can run and kick and the 2nd round is often where you find them.

I don't believe that for a minute. It would be highly negligent not to have considered that a possibility.

So Freo just got pick 23 for mayne push our round 2 pick to 29.

if this Hibberd deal takes any longer our picks going to be in the low 30's and Essendon will just walk away from the deal

Might also force their hand into taking next year's second round pick.

I'd rather give them this year's 2nd round pick, next year's draft is meant to be superior to this year's.

You would think so wouldn't you but then again we took Melksham and there is no way we would have done that if we thought he was going to sit out the year

They say that every year.

A pick in the first 2 rounds is worth more than not next years 2nd rounder that we can always get back in another deal next year.

Depends whether we intend to take the pick into the draft, or use it to trade with in order to land someone this trade period.

True. But they would have considered it and thought it a low probability. They wouldnt have given it a zero chance.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
