WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - COREY MAYNARD

Had heard whispers through this year we were chasing Maynard. Now either the message I heard was crossed and it was this Maynard, or we are keeping a close eye on his Collingwood brother also.

Might make sense this. Especially given it's likely Hibberd will re-sign with Essendon, the Collingwood Maynard might be a nice fit off half back. Doesn't have the kicking skills of Hibberd though, but another left footer to add to the cabinet. It's becoming a pretty full cabinet.

For the record, Pendlebury was another junior basketballer whose talents translated to AFL. I'm sure Corey'll be just as good. :P

First Joel Smith, now Corey Maynard. Fair to say we don't mind the basketballers.

*Joel Smith - Australian under 19 squad.

*Jack Watts - picked in Australian under 19's squad.

*Christian Petracca - Australian under 17 squad.

*Corey Maynard - Australian under 23 squad.

Probably more. I think Trengove and Tyson could play also.

I reckon Tracc's dog would have to be in the team as well. He's merciless at blocking lay-ups.

What!??

Why has no one mentioned this before!

Wasn't Jake Spencer also a basketballer?  I vaguely remember a story about him choosing footy over basketball because he liked hurting people.  I've loved him ever since!

Haha, not sure. But would make sense given that height of his.

I sat in  an old stand at Ballarat and had a chat with Jake just after he came to the Club and he said he didn't mind knocking the little blokes over, had a soft spot for him ever since

I bet you it can't throw a mean frisbee like Howies dog!

This guy is smashing it at VFL level and plays the contested brand of footy that suits our team. Of his 30 possession on the weekend, a massive 20 of them were contested http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2017-07-26/vfl-player-review-round-14

Might be wise to expose another player to AFL footy and add some depth and experience to our midfield should finals come around, although they might want to add some polish to his game first.

With Smith and Maynard both recruited as Cat B rookies, its another reason to appreciate the efforts of our recruiting team.

This is the guy I am most excited about down at Casey. Could be a real smokey and seems to be tearing it up in the midfield....

Maynard elevated to senior list

Okay, this usually suggests he's up for a game - maybe this weekend?

Fascinating!  No need to elevate him now unless we intend to play him, I would have thought.

Interesting...

Don't see it happening, but if Oliver and co. need a rest against the Lions and we are in a comfortable spot - yeah, he may get his jumper earlier than expected.

Considering McKenna was already on the LTI list, I imagine Maynard has been upgraded because he will playing this week.

Who for is the question.

Maynard started out off half-back with the Scorps, no? Think JT or else JKH may be on the block.

?

A mid dumped after a great win?

I think that is a heavy assumption @Scythe...

Wouldn't be surprised if Maynard comes in for JKH. Not that I think JKH played poorly, but with the forecast of wet conditions, Goody might want another big body around the contest, rather than a lightly framed, outside player.

Nope, just an emergency

Might be right but let's wait for late changes to be announced to be sure.

We have a couple of sore players and he could be a like for like replacement for one of our sore mids. Other emergencies are Wagner (defender) and Pedersen (versatile tall)

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
