Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I thought Kennedy would get the call if Garlett was out. Strange to ignore him as the small forward option. Though happy to see ANB back.

Harmes to work on disposal efficiency. Salem provides better ball use albeit may still be only 90% fit.

Pedersen very unlucky. But Hogan with Weed are the future.

He hasnt brought ball to ground or created opportunities for other players on a reg basis for a quite a while now Saty nor is he very accurate of late. Goes the accuracy goes the General form. Just ask Cloke.

His competing for the ball created Kent's goal last weekend   just for starters   but whatever

I totally agree that [Harmes] needs to clean up those errors, no disputing that. I just don't agree that he's anywhere near the fringe of our side, and his standing in our side supports that, but his name comes up in these discussions every week.

I am on a losing streak in this thread.

A couple of days ago Nasher was lamenting the typical "group think" on Demonland, because some were suggesting Harmes be dropped.

Timing didn't work out well for old mate Nash this week.

Yes, crap call.  Never made one, Pro?

Poor Pedo, didn't deserve to be dropped :(

Agreed, but the Weed is our future, so it's possible Roos and Goodwin have recognised Pedo as a handy depth player who gives his all. I have a soft spot for hard working big men who can clunk the ball and throw their body around.

Pedo is unlucky to not play but he is clearly preferred player ahead of Dawes and has done more than enough in the last few weeks/this year to get a contract extension.

Or maybe resting the Ped for the big game the week after and potential finals action?

Disagree rusty. As Prodee notes an opposition player rarely marks the ball when Hogan is in the marking contest. Therefore if he doesn't clunk it it inevitably comes to ground. The goal Kent snagged off the pack was a good example. And by taking the best defender and being doubled team it allows other players, as Viney noted in an interview this week, to 'get off the chain'. Watts is huge beneficiary of this.

Saty this is either one amazing piece of coincidence, you trolled through the last 5 pages, or that was about the only assist/impact Hogan had last weekend!

Footywire says ZERO goal assists. I prefer to trust my eyes but would need to troll through the replay to confirm. Maybe Champion has a separate stat for "1%er goal assists" or something

You made the call on Pederson - zero tackles I think was the rationale.

If that was Nasher's basis then i hope he also called for the heads of Hogan and Frost who also had Zero tackles

Would also have had Ben Ken before ANB as the Jeffy replacement.

Grimes before Michie. Michie tried and tested a number of times at AFL level and flopped every time so far.

Would have gone Ben Ken (Garlett inj.), Grimes for Vince (rested for next week's potential big one and maybe finals) and left Pedo (unless a rest was required as per Vince, in that case yes bring in the Weid). Harmes had a poor game and a rest was maybe required so ANB at a pinch but would need a very solid game to hold his spot for the following week.

Even if Michie and/or ANB play ok we have no real way of knowing what sort of form they are truly in, unless they have a blinder, given the poor quality opponent this week (9 losses in a row now).

Pretty poor selections IMO and a real slap in the face to poor old Grimes (Michie!!......really!!)

Weed injured himself at training and was on the news hobbling.

He either made a good recovery, or we are foxing.

If he plays, then it would be fair to say that we are still planning for the future. With 2 big ruckmen in the Blues side, we leave ourselves exposed. Then again showers are predicted.

I saw it too, but it was very innocuous.  Just fell over and grimaced a bit as he ran off.

Looked nothing.

Not at all, just don't play them at this point so late in a season with such a (potentially) critical match looming against the Cats.

Ben Ken & Grimes have at least shown they can perform at AFL level albeit not stellar performers. Although having said that Grimes first up game was completely off the charts stats wise. Flopped a little the week after along with most others..out lol. Michie & ANB are too big a risk at this point and do nicely at VFL level but that's where their limitations lie right at this moment (ANB a potential AFL option next year if he can take it to another level).

If they underwhelm and need changing out for the Cats match you have then also not given Grimes/ Ben Ken (if Jeffy doesn't get up for the Cats) a chance to adjust to the step up to AFL level. They'll be coming in cold. Not that the FD would ever pick Grimes I realise. By selecting Michie over Grimes (the worst selection table choice for quite some time IMO) Roos/Goodwin/ FD have obviously signed his papers.

Grimes is easily our best "AFL ready" option at VFL level right at this moment who has proven he can play a role consistently vs others of a similar ilk playing at Casey. Next year might be different but we don't have "next year". We have two matches and need to win both of them very convincingly on the scoreboard to have a chance of playing finals (assuming the other games fall our way obviously).

FWIW I agree that it seems stupid to bring in players at this stage unless it is to rest others (Cats seem to have done this). I rate Viv but am clearly in the very small minority on this site. He will not be at MFC next season and I think that tomorrow may be an audition for another club. His form in the VFL is outstanding and his selection is reward for that effort. Even Roos rated his form as fantastic.

Nah I just think despite showing plenty at VFL level, was yo yo'd last season and not given much of a go this year all of which suggest to me that he is not going to be re-contracted. The interesting thing is that he has been emergency 9 times this year. It is difficult to understand the FD thinking some times. I hope he stays but I doubt it.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
