I wasn't nitpicking Sue, I just quoted you and then explained why the MFC fitted your definition.  And don't think for a moment the name Melbourne is any protection to being made redundant, there is no "London" in the EPL.  If MFC were to disappear it would cause the least disruption to the AFL of any Vic team, we have the least number of supporters as evidenced by the Morgan poll and I'd contend after our performance over the last 10 years one of the smallest supporter bases amongst kids.

I would have thought so too, but I saw something very interesting last week at my son's kinder. They had a father's day event and we were all invited down to play games with the kids. I noticed on the wall, there was an AFL logo for every club, and a picture of a kid under it, showing who each one barracks for. Melbourne had the equal second highest (5 kids, tied with Richmond), with Collingwood #1 with 6.

We're in Berwick, so I'm not sure if the club's Casey alignment has had a larger impact here than in other parts of the state, but it was quite a welcome surprise.

Not sure if I should disclose this, for the pitchforks may appear, but I noticed my own son's picture was not under the MFC logo. His picture stood alone, under the Lions. I asked him about it later and he said "I know we go for Melbourne but the Lion was lonely so I said Lions."

I have failed to instruct my own child in the unrelenting harshness of football tribalism. I beg everyone's forgiveness whilst I correct this egregious oversight.

maybe a week's exile at romsey manor for corrective treatment is in order, choke? bitters can be very persuasive when given a chance.

Excuse me for having no sympathy for an interstate team that was given Fitzroys best players and then won 3 flags in a row

How many Fitzroy players that transferred in the merger played in the Brisbane flag teams?

At the end of the day, there is no light at the end of the tunnel for Brisbane and even if they are given an end of first round compo, they will loose it to Academy players if they dont trade it for an established player.

They can't "loose it to Academy players" because they will have used it before any other teams can bid on Academy players.

Not a chance DC, don't need my child being exposed to BBO's floggings.

The softening up of the public has started already. I heard Barrett (I think) on the radio a few days ago saying Brisbane are now worse than Melbourne were a few years ago.

Couldn't believe what I was hearing.

I also remember when our PP was knocked back that the AFL would only issue one in extreme situations or something, like the death of a player.

Yes they set a silly precedent when they denied our claim, as no team is likely to ever be worse than we were, but precedents only matter to those who care about consistency. The AFL does not.

This made me vomit with rage.

OMG the AFL are so corrupt. Make IOC and FIFA look squeaky clean.  And as for Gil........?

Only interested in the TV rights bottom line.

Zorko has come out and said they don't need a PP, with the top line talent they have coming through, but will take one if they AFL gives them one. Surely not the thing for a player to be saying

Brisbane should get a couple of them.  They are doomed without a competitive list.

We should have got one after 2013 or 2014. We were not given a PP as we were being punished for being found "not guilty" of tanking....... we all know the "not guilty" is for AFL legal reason with bookies.

We all know we were as guilty as sin for tanking, we paid a terrible price for it. This should be a lesson for all.

If we could somehow thieve Hanley from them it would be a good result.

Im not really concerned about solving their problems.

Zorko agitating for a move?

Surely the Lions must be furious with their best and fairest publicly declaring they don't need a priority pick?
Unless already told they won't get one and attempting to control the message.

It does seem strange that the vice captains messaging would be the exact opposite of the clubs, as you say it's either disharmony or a sign the decisions already been made.

It would be an absolute travesty if they get a priority pick.  We were in need of this far more than they were and our submission was rejected out of hand.  They have had their fair share of concessions over the years.  Enough is enough.

Don't know about "transferred" but they had Martin Pike, Lynchy and Chris Johnson.

Wasn't Johnno Brown a F/S?

Jarryd Molloy, Brad Boyd and a couple of others missed out

Chris Johnson was the only one who transferred in the merger.  Played in all 3 flags.

Pike came later in 2001 via Norh.   Lynch earlier in 1994.

Great thing for a player to say. There is no call for the "re-introduction" of "priority picks" and it will bite the AFL on the bum if they are foolish enough. Help Brisbane with luring a coach or send them up Kevin Sheedy!

I'm sure, or correct me if I'm wrong, that Mark Evans said after our last request, that the rule basically exists now, only in tragic circumstances such as a death etc.

How can they possibly have a good case for a pick, if that was the ruling only a couple of years back in regards to us?

Pause and think for a minute about how you would feel about it, if we had only won 6-7 games this season. I reckon there would be outrage from every poster here. Never forget that these pricks campaigned against us getting one, even when we were gasping for breath and about to expire. We should be leading the chorus against them.

Listening to Gill on SEN tonight he said Brisbane had lodged their case for a priority pick but didn't know the detail. It would be evaluated by Evans and Dillon and the the Commission would ponder and decide, so he said. What a joke, the commission of drones has always just rubber stamped Evan's decision in the past. I just get the feeling this time the commission will be given permission and encouraged to say yes to a priority, maybe a second rounder. And it will come with all the legitimacy of our wise commissioners. Who could argue with such collective wisdom.

After it was declared that someone needed to die, in order for us to receive a pick.

You can imagine how enraged people will be if the rules are changed now.

I think it is a bit different for the Lions. They have not been found not guilty of tanking like us and fined $500K so it is different. Make sense?

Personally I'm pleased we got Roos and PJ supplied by the AFL. A priority pick? Meh....

If a PP is what the Lions are after, give it to them. That wouldn't be in the top 5 of my wishes if I was a big Brissy fan.

Essendon took drugs and cheated to win games and are getting rewarded with pick 1. Stop dredging up tanking in one season, as a reason for denying a PP after 10 years of crap.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
