Around The Grounds - Round 17

Round 17 already, the season is flying by, unless you're Fremantle.

In tonight's game, Bruce is attempting to set a world record in mentioning Rioli's name as many times as possible, although he hasn't had a possession. He did mention Rioli looks "interested" so I suppose that counts for someone.

Rohan kicked a nice goal for the Swans and Bruce felt the need to drop Rioli's name again stating "There's a bit of Rioli in Rohan." You could hear the jealously in his voice.

Its a 50/50 game at the moment, I'm not sure why but Pannell was a late our for the Hawks.

Isaac Smith...well he couldn't have run a bigger arc to avoid contact and the contest with Buddy.

I guess that's why he's an outside mid. Very outside.

I dont normally subscribe to this theory, but ffs #freekickhawthorn,  Its woeful. Anyone see buddy dragged down, the hodge dangerous tackle etc ?

Much prefer to watch The British Open, Matter of fact I might just do that Shortly!

No it wasn't...Brian Taylor said it was ok, in Brian we trust.

I find myself in the unpleasant position of barracking for Hawthorn due to my tipping strategy this week.

looked like a classic sling tackle to me, brian, including head hitting ground

Whomever invented the mute button, I thank you.

Bruce + Darcy + Rioli = Get [censored]

Hawks looking pretty ominous.

Whilst I rarely wish injury upon anyone, I think justice would be done if

- someone were to give Mitchell a season ending corking in the PF

- someone were to crash Hodge into the goalpost in the same game with the same result.

Bruce an embarrassment again tonight....Poppy going to run onto it....deliberate you fool.

I agree. Haven't had to listen to Bruce s lot this year but he is just too much. Add BT = appalling.

The constant barracking and wanking over Hawthorn by all commentators is pathetic. It's at the point where I will Barack for any team over Hawhtorn because I'm sick of hearing about how good every little touch any of their players is, even when they're losing!

This is one of the worst displays of one sided umpiring I have ever seen... Hawthorn are getting more gifts than a kid from an Irish catholic family on their birthday!

Not sure what's worse, the commentary or the umpires.

These 50m penalties when a player is inside the 'zone' when a mark is taken and just wants to run forward, in no way affecting the player with the ball, are ridiculous.  Why should the player have to run off for 5-10 metres at right angles before going forward?    What if they run off at 80 degrees, 70....?  When does it worry the umpire  - who knows.

What a cracker of a game. We finally get a decent game on a thursday. I really don't care of the hawks win.  I mean I admire Clarko and his coaching. He just proves you don't have to be a superstar player to be a great coach. Unlike 1 who thought he could just strut in and succeed. Turd I'm talking about.

If that was us that was so successful we would be loving it.

But yes agree with some of the free kicks. I mean Mitchell charges his head forward and the ump falls for it.

But Aliir has done some nice things and taken some courageous marks. Game on.

Can't even be bothered watching this game. 1 vs 2 yet I don't care, can't imagine why?

Wouldn't be because everyone is sick of [censored] Hawthorn winning the premiership every bloody year?! Not to mention the endless plaudits Sydney receives for how "incredible" and "inspiring" it is that they can magically regenerate their list with youth despite constantly finishing at the top of the ladder. Yeah, it's so hard rebuilding your list when you get gifted the draft's best players despite finishing at the top every year! We all have to bow down to these list management geniuses at the Swans who just "find a way" to play finals every year.

[censored] off.

I can't stand either club and I can't stand the fact that yet another season is boiling down to a Sydney v Hawthorn GF.

Nonetheless, this is a good game of football.

Is there a special Hawthorn holding rule?

Looks like Jones might have a serious leg injury.

Hawthorn can't score without getting a free kick to aid them. Free kicks 15-7. No surprises there. Sick of watching these shitstains win.

That Frawley guy goes ok...would make a good general in our backline....when's he out of contract??

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.
