predict most improved player for 2007

Sylvia, Paul and Chris Johnson or Warnock. These are the players that should all improve and if we are being honest with ourselves have to improve for us to be a serios threat.

Bate, Dunn and Jones will all naturally get better with age, but the above quartet all have alot of work to do to become players we have hoped they will become for a long time.

IMO I think they could all be the players we want them to be especially Col and I think that next year he will repay the faith (hopefully), CJ has to work hard on his consistency and I think Danners just needs to put him on a wing and watch him do what Dal Santo does for the saints, they are both very similar, Warnock is the smokey but I believe he will be our third tall defender for most of next year and am looking forward to watching him progress. PJ is the one I worry about most, because I think he could be the best of the lot of them, but he just needs to learn how to mark above his head. I'm genuinely excited about him and I hope he shows us his worth, but he has to work hard. But hey don't big men take longer to develop :D

Peace Out

Colin Sylvia.

I think he is going to be an absolute gun.

Once he does a full pre-season, I think he can gain his own and the playing groups confidence.

I see it as a make or break year for Col. He has to get over his "little boy lost" look and not think about his game.

I mean"Break" in as much as his asperations will be dashed if he doesnt break on through to top ten.

My next would be Bate as he has a lot more left to deliver even though I rate him not much behind Brock.

I see only gradual improvement from the rest.

I believe Jones is already going on all cylinders. I hope he keeps it up.

Newton and Warnock will be lucky to get 6-8 games between them unless things go awry.

PJ may have something to show. I wouldnt back it at evens. Maybe 3-1.

Theres a couple not in the hunt.

I dont think CJ has got it, I think he and Bell are over rated. Bell's endevour with CJ's prowess would be good.

Hope Im wrong. :(

I'm going with Jamar. He is my adopted player for 2007.

More game time, with prolonged stints up forward and an increase in confidence, means Jamar will no longer be just the back-up.

Also, I have a gut feeling that Jared Rivers is about to really come of age. He has been solid since the start, but he has now graduated from the "School of Insane Bravery", and I expect big things from him.

Oh, and if McLean remains injury free....

If we are talking about improvements from last years performances, my tip is Clint Bizzell.

If we are talking about players taking their game to a new level, my tip is Col.......

....but don't be surprised if Godders learns to side-step and kick over summer. :P

And if we are talking about coming out of 'no where' my tip is Juice.

While we are at it we might as well include who will 'fall from glory' next year as well.

I tip Wardy will not be in the best 22 by years end.

Go Dees - 2007. Dees are in Heaven (how corny is that!!)

Given that towards the end of last year, Carroll played 3 great games and then was most-improved this year, for me the same has to be said about Bell. Last 3 games were a huge effort from him and i would not be surprised if he has similar success next year as to what Carroll had this year.

Bell is the one to watch, but Sylvia surely has to show why we took him at pick #3 some time soon, he will also be in contention for most improved.

Sylvia's an interesting one.

I wonder just how much improvement is in him. So far he's mainly played a cameo role in most games, ie- a freakish mark here, a good goal there. And he has certainly been injury plagued so its been hard to get full games out of him.

On the other hand he started 2006 in full fitness and played the first 7 or 8 (NAB included) games and while he played well, he certainly wasn't A-Grade level.

So the question is have we seen the very best of him when not injured, or is he ready to explode and become a consistent A-Grade performer!

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
