Bugg has definitely brought a new dynamic to our team. He is going take over from Hayden Ballantyne as the most hated AFL player in the comp... and i love it!

Speaking of Jake, we still have Jake Melksham to come in who is just an even bigger pest!

Good times.

The fact that Bugg and other 'lesser lights' (Kent and Wagner in particular this week) on our list are playing a big role in the turnaround is possibly the most exciting aspect of what seems to be happening at the club.

It is a decisive different between us and, for example, Collingwood or the Tigers. They have their core group of guns, but then it drops away too much. That's how you end up with flat-track bully teams that wilt under heavy pressure and against well-drilled or simply good depth teams.

If the Essendon game really does remain as a bizarre anomaly caused by some kind of brain-flu that passed around the club undetected that week, then this season is just an extraordinary surge.

Keep that 'full-22' pumping along, keep engaging in the 'sensible luxury' of resting kids when they need it and having quality options come in to replace them, and let's just watch and see what happens.

Given how many frankly hilarious cockups we managed on sunday and the ordinary form of our No.1 forward target, it is quite scary that we still came out solid winners with 20 goals on our ledger.

There is the lurking possibility that some time this season we could really smash someone. I mean really, really smash them.

Anyway, one game at a time, bring on whoever.

i thought we were going to put collingwood to the sword, just had a gut feeling. But I completely agree, we'll be handing out at least one 100 point spanking to a team this year at some stage, mark my words. We're playing great footy at the moment.

From the moment we picked him up I said Bugg would become a fan favourite, although it's happening a little sooner than I expected.

One for the NFL fans from over in the "other sports" thread...

Did anyone notice a sneaky little Jake Bugg "dab", Cam Newton style, just before he sang the song in the rooms?!

Love this kids cockiness. We have one of the league's most hated now!

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
