Interesting.

That's one forced change but still doesn't give us any indication of who will come in.

A number of guys could play half-back.

Matt Jones? If we're going for a similar role.

Teams thrive on a player playing their first game.  It's often said groups are "up" with the injection of a new player.

No better way to tackle a team that has had the wood on us than by unleashing Petracca and his unbridled enthusiasm in our bid to win 3 in a row.  The perfect opportunity against the team that overlooked him.

Leg issue soft tissue type. Nothing serious pulled up sore won't make short turn around for Sat.

IF that's the case then the right decision for sure.

Who replaces Salem at HBF now?

The defence is pretty well covered by this group of 7.

I reckon it gives Petracca every opportunity if they manage Brayshaw

Out: Brayshaw, Salem

In: Oliver, Petracca

It is. Which is why I'm excited by the thought of it being Petracca or Trenners.

I'd be happy with those ins.

I reckon we could move Jeffy or Kent up to a wing for periods of the game with Trac playing either deep forward or HF.

Vince to a back flank at times, Oliver into the middle.

Can't remember having an injury list this healthy in my time as a supporter.

Hoping Salem (the Ectomorph) will only miss the one week.

I know you want a response from me because you think I speak ill of Matt Jones.

I think he was really solid whilst in the side but honestly I think it'll be hard for him to get his position back this week only because of the quality we have to choose from.

He was doing absolutely nothing wrong whilst in the side. But I'd still rather Petracca, Oliver and Trengove as I see they offer everything that he does and then some.

The only exception being outside run.

But I can't see that being a problem against the Saints.

No, not at all, was a genuine question and I honestly had no idea you'd spoken ill of him or anything like that.

Just thinking role wise he seems the obvious replacement for Salem, but that's mostly because in my mind I have Oliver coming in for Gus and Trac coming in for either Pedo or Frost.

Wouldn't normally expect 3 changes after a win, but with the short week I don't think it's beyond the realms of possibility.

Speed and outside run is going to be vital this week though, our best performances at Etihad have been with smaller lineups.

There have been so few that I am not sure how you can come to that conclusion stuie.

Last year - Massive loss to the Dogs with a tall lineup, win against GWS with a small lineup.

Different teams granted, but Roosy definitely changed his Etihad selection criteria after the Dogs game.

Are you suggesting one of Frost/Pedersen gets rested?

Good point. I suspect they will pick him and a large part of the rationale will be the injection of energy to the team and the excitement for the fans. That and his head will probably explode if they don't!

In my opinion there's a decent chance one will be left out. Undecided which, Frost has the better speed which is important at Etihad, but Pedo is a better backup ruck option at this stage I think.

Assuming Salem is out, I would rest Bugg, if Brayshaw is not rested and bring in Oliver and CP5.

Brayshaw just doesn't look right ATM.

I think we would have lost to the Dogs no matter who we played, the problem in that game was injuries had reduced our options to near nil.

I think Matt Jones will come back in. I'm guessing the coaches rate him higher than most Demonlanders (including me) because he was named in the starting 18 every week from Rounds 1-4. He'll be over his general soreness and will slot straight, perhaps for Salem if the information above is accurate.

Petracca will surely come in, probably at Brayshaw's expense. Regardless of his role, I don't think 10 touches and a goal is good enough for Gus to retain his spot.

Oliver carved the Saints up in the practice game and a refreshed Oliver is best 22. I don't know who makes way for him though. I wasn't a big Frost fan at the start of the year but I think he offers a lot. Pace, strength, good hands in close, bobs up for the occasional goal (and many points). Harmes would be stiff, his kicking has been a real weapon in our two recent wins.

I think the changes will be:

In. Petracca, Matt Jones

Out. Salem (injured), Brayshaw

Yeah, not in any way saying we should/would have won, but we were destroyed in that game, and if you look at the teams we selected for Etihad games after it we went small, including when we beat GWS. It seemed that Roosy decided that was the way to go, and I don't reckon a victory would have made him question that.

What an amazing position to be in with the likes of Clarry, Trenners and Truck all lurking wanting to join in.

Selecting the side is now a very difficult thing.

Be great to see CP get a run if for no other reason than the headache it gives the Saints trying to judge his impact and who/how to stop it.

Have a funny feeling he'll get a debut on the G

The sample size will increase on Saturday.

I am confident we can win with however we pick.

Very pleasant problem to have bb.

It is very long time since we were in this position.

Veteran Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin returned to the training track to bring you the following observations from Gosch's Paddock this morning. Beautiful morning for training. The dew has dried, out from AAMI, quiet chatting. Maysie does his heart symbol. 7 in rehab, Turner, Hore, Sestan, BBB, Petty, Spargo and Schache. All in runners. Melky weighted and change of angles work. Salem has his individual program. White cap (no contact), Howes, Woewodin and Sparrow

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
