POST MATCH DISCUSSION - Round 5

Demonland

Recommended Posts

Tyson had a solid game and a good battle with Edwards who also had his moments.

Edwards was on the end of some good work from Ivan when he got first use on a couple of occasions. Need to take the inside whenever possible as he loves to hit the pack from boundary side running inboard. Might help stop a few nose bleeds going the other way and a possible 50+ win next time.

By the way what happened to with the hand pass /kick out after a behind?? Who was it?

Shouldn't be getting that responsibility at this early stage. Something went wrong there. More concerned with how that happened. Boys will  cover this in the review for sure.

Suprised noone has mentioned Morris throwing his head backwards when he got tackled around the waist in Richmond's forward fifty.

I absolutely hate seeing this and I went mental at the ground when I saw it happen. Players should get a warning and if it happens again suspended for a week.

Agreed. I went spare after seeing this and not one commentator on the replay said a thing. What I did like tho was our tackling. We seem to be a bit smarter about how we tackle. We wait a split second before committing and don't give away many dumb frees as we have in the past. A couple of times we had 2 or 3 players commit to the ball carrier to see it fly over their heads but this is happening less and less.

Morris should be fined. But he won't be.

Did anyone see Jones and Riewoldt have a few interesting words at the end when the siren sounded? Jones was pointing somewhere to the ground and was pretty vocal.

Yes and, from what I could tell, Rance walked up and Jones completely ignored him.

Jones must be pinching himself now that he finally has a brigade around him

Hunt had a brain snap. No biggie and I am tipping he won't do it again..... But I liked the fact they were looking to play on quickly at all costs. Except for Dunn who seems to hold the ball up more often than not. Needs to get with the new programme....

While it was obvious Hunt had a complete brain fade and quite clearly meant to re-start play with such a long hand pass out of the square, in general how does the umpire know that a player is not passing the ball to the player who is to take the kick-out.    What's the rule?

Dunn is the best player in defence, to have the ball in his hands, with Salem a close second, like Watts is in the forward line.

A long Dunn kick ,direct to team mate, starts off our attack time and again.

Because you have to pass the ball  to the other player in the goal square,  not handball it 15 metres away to him.

But I think that the receiving player is often outside the square, so if I'm right, it means the umpire having to guess what's in the mind of the player.    (Obviously Hunt's long handball didn't require a Houdini to read his mind.)

I think they are nearly always in the square, or at least very close to it, about to enter it and looking away from the field.

The umpiring was making me verryy frustrated. How many times were our forwards held onto in a contest in the first half? Pedersen should have had 3 or more frees inside 50. The umpire must have not seen Lumumba bounce the ball, that's the only explanation I can think of for that one. The deliberate out of bounds needs to be looked at, it is completely different the way they call it from game to game. Honestly how can you call it deliberate when they kick it 30 meters away to a spot with a team mate near while getting tackled.

It was pretty ridiculous all night. It seriously felt at times as if the crowd were controlling the game.

A lot of sloppy kicks, missed tackles and just general poor skills that could have been avoided if the players were a bit sharper.

I'm ecstatic we won, but Richmond really were terrible and they only got as close as they did because we allowed them to. Who was supposed to be on Edwards by the way?

I don't count any of that as laziness though. The sloppy kicks are a by product of us not being elite, or close to it, yet. The missed tackles happen every week from every team but we stuck more than enough to show we weren't being lazy.

Richmond were bad, yes, but there were multiple times when they lifted and upped their intensity and instead of letting them get a run of goals on we lifted too, matched them, and returned fire on the scoreboard every time. That's not laziness, that's being a good side.

The skill errors are going to cost us matches against the better sides, maybe even against the worse sides, but they should slowly diminish as we continue to work on this style of football and work together as a team.

Yeah I saw that too and said to my daughter that it didn't look friendly.

Maybe Jones said to JR that he needs to adjust that pole that's up his arze!

I went to game last night and loved every minute of it. The pre game ceremony was very moving and the game itself was sensational. Even my husband (decked out in his Melbourne gear) was cheering loudly and on the edge of his seat. I had the misfortune to have a ferral Richmond supported sitting on my other side. Talk about a misfit and totally delusional. He thought we got a good run with the umpiring - what a joke. He slunk away at 3/4 time thank God.

The atmosphere was amazing and I felt so proud to be a member of the MFC.

Jack Viney - I used to refer to you as Baby Jesus but you are now God in my eyes.

I thought the hubby was a collywobbles supporter from memory.

Well done Jane u have converted him to the darker side!

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full
