MATCH PREVIEW & TEAM SELECTION - ROUND 2, 2016

Dunn will have to improve his disposal i think this is keeping him out. This is what they meant by turnovers further up the ground instead of close to goal and being scored against.

We've lowered our eyes now and want to hit targets quickly within 20-30 metres even Tmac has improved his. Also think his brother plays b4 dunn for this reason aswell

Strong looking side for us, plenty of run should be able to make mincemeat of the Bombers you'd hope.

That's definitely the best side we've put on the park (on paper) in the Roos era...hope it translates in performance!

Quote:  THE FORM of forward Jack Watts and utility Matt Jones has been praised by coach Paul Roos leading into round two

Delighted for both much maligned players.

Suspense over: Brayshaw, Lumumba return for Melbourne  http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2016-03-31/brayshaw-lumumba-return-for-melbourne

Frost out

Oscar injured

Doesn't bode well for Dunn

Well I gotta say the club has stooged me on this one. I was sure Gus was going to come back in and then words were that he was going to come through the VFL but now he's back in. Welcome to 2016 AFL Gus!

Lumumba is a bit of a surprise but his run out of defence suits our evolving style so it's a good chance to show us his worth. I think Oscar being rested is good for him and the team, I still feel he needs more work on his body strength but he's improving.

Dunn has a fight on his hands to get back in the 22, as does a few others force their way in/retain positions.

Competition for spots, isn't it awesome!

Dunn was left out as Essendon don't have a tall forward line.

Brayshaw!!! Love this kid to death.

Glad we dropped a tall and kept Dunn out. Essendon are small up forward and we were lacking run. Both H and Brayshaw bring that in spades.

Hopefully H is over his first year blues with us and starts delivering. He was highly disappointing last year but brings the sort of half back attack we really need.

I can't believe the club has disregarded Stuie's advice and dropped Frost before Pedo !!

I'm sure they're being trolled as we post.

I'm sick of this 'lucky' stuff from our own supporters. We were the better side on the day full stop.

Yeah right. So their 2.6 to our 1.1 in the third is just us being better?

Thankfully they've stuck true to picking players on form. O. Mac needs time to develop, whilst Frost will never be a forward. Team looks far better balanced than round 1.

Frankly I'm amazed by the level of confidence here

This is exactly the type of game we have previously lost. Opposition is struggling, coming off a good win, high expectations... Hope I'm wrong and we do smash them, but I'm not so confident.

I'm also nervous about this game Jaded. When I hear words like 'annihilation' I go back to when the Age published 'The Red and Blueprint to success' (close enough) prior to us playing St Kilda. We were incredibly confident. Maybe 2008. We were flogged.

Harmes stays in.

Told youse.

Very happy with this. He's been a good contributor since his senior debut and will bounce back this week.

He's hard, ET. He's super competitive.

I love him.

no Jamar. Anyone know/ideas why not?

Good changes.  Their forward line is tiny outside of Daniher, so it makes sense to bring in a mid and a running backman (who can play both tall and small) to counter it.

The Bombers backline, on the other hand, looks to be VERY tall.  Dea, Brown, Hartley, Gwilt... hopefully it gives our fleet of small forwards plenty of opportunities to cause some havoc as well.

It's a different team. It's a different vibe. The adjustment is hard but old dee is leading the way. We've named a well rounded, hard at the contest 22 against a team that is coming to terms with a new coach, new gameplan and an array of top up players. I don't care how many Essendon tragics are marching to the ground, this is a game where we should rightfully expect our team to show their superiority and smash the opposition.

Sorry nutbean I made a mistake I have the smugness bit in 2016. We will win ten games it is done and dusted.

So much so that I have stopped looking at who it selected in the team because it does not matter we will win ten games no matter who we select.

Wow OD you are a new man. The psychotherapy has done wonders. This must mean something. I was going to post a cautious comment like I will stop worrying when we have a consistent run of sustained success but that sounds a little pessimistic. So I will say we should win this one.

I wonder if MaCa is weaving its magic off field, on OD ?

B: Neville Jetta, Tom McDonald, Heritier Lumumba
HB: Matt Jones, Colin Garland, Christian Salem
C: Bernie Vince, Jack Viney, Aaron vandenBerg
HF: Jack Watts, Cam Pedersen, James Harmes
F: Dean Kent, Jesse Hogan, Jeff Garlett
Foll: Max Gawn, Nathan Jones, Dom Tyson
I/C: Angus Brayshaw, Clayton Oliver, Tom Bugg, Ben Kennedy
Emg: Lynden Dunn, Billy Stretch, Sam Frost
In: Lumumba, Brayshaw
Out: Oscar McDonald (ankle), Sam Frost

Doesn't bode well for Dunn in that he doesn't appear to be an 'automatic' for starting 22.

Great to see Gus back.

* surprised Gus got back this week,  other than he needs a run before the North game.

* Lamumba,  we need in for his Dash.  We missed run & speed last week from what I could hear.

* Frost dropped ? I got that wrong.  ah, he's on the emerg's...  this is how they fitted Angus into the 22.  lose a tall, play an extra runner.  Ok with Brayshaw..

There is no match up for Dunn

expect more rotations this week.

How about the bench

Bugg, Brayshaw, Oliver, Kennedy... few hard nuts, any year of the past 10 i reckon all 4 of them would have been starting 18 without question

Bird, Simpkin and mckernan all dropped for kids. Wtf is woosha doing?

they have 5-6 good players and the rest is rubbish. Their entire defence looks poor on paper.

Thats worse than our worst team in 2013

If we play okay we should win by 70 pts+ but surely this should be triple figures.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
