I love the confidence, but it saddens me that Hogan doesn't seem to appreciate how good Schwarz was.

I think the statement from Schwarz was absurd. He based his comments on one bad shank and a near miss. "It could take $400K off his contract" -  As Hogan points out - his conversion rate is exceptional - his style just looks really ugly. Schwarz got the right whack he deserved in this instance.

As I recall, the Ox almost always played up field and hit many from over 50 metres.

As has been pointed out  - Jesse doesn't have the leg that Schwarz has and that could be to do with his action.

Bottom line is Hogan's kicking whilst fair from technically perfect has been effective.

Agree. Nobody wins with comments like that.

The Ox's opinion was considered, but poorly considered as there are no facts to back up his assertions of "disgraceful kicking". No shades of grey here - just an opinion that is factually wrong.

Jesse was obviously asked the question about it and he answered it.

If we want to remove no win comments, how about journalists think about what the say before saying it  - including the Ox.

imagine any other response he could make to that statement

"yeh i cant really kick for goal Ox is right"
"even if my kicking was poor this year, i will still get massive contract offers, so Ox should shut up"
"i have no statement to make in relation to the oxs comments"

so bloody stupid, it was a perfectly considered response with the right amount of tongue in cheek, not to mention that the line would have been fed to him from our media team, as it was always going to be an obvious question to be asked.

i still reckon he needs to work hard on his set piece kicking action. he improved it last year, but he can't afford to let it slip

there's no need to panic obviously, but it simply needs work and should be fixable

i expect he needs to work on it for his whole career, nothing unusual in that, barry cable one of the best ever exponents of handball would come into to the rooms after training and spend half an hour practising on the handball target board. practice, practice makes perfect.

the ox might have been overly hyperbolic but he was on the money

I agree that Ox's comments were poorly considered, but I just don't think that current players should get caught up in media comments from past players. It can end up in a slanging match which serves no purpose. He should have just brushed off Ox's comments with "my gk % was 69% last year and I just had an off day, which I'll work on". No need to bring up Ox's record.

Press confrence at 8:30 rumours sent the blood pressure through the roof!

i thought he's either retiring, out for the year or just re-signed for 10 years

Re Ox and his comments on SEN.

Lets all remember that Ox is paid by SEN to get listeners and rating and keep his job.

Yes he is a MFC x player and loyalist.

However he knows who is paying the bills and it ain't the MFC.

I would be doing the exact same things he is doing and  in a number of them I agree with him.

Could be nothing, could be something.

I say we panic just to be safe!

To panic is my default position. Anything good that happens afterwards is a bonus.

just a bit of banter guys, settle down

like the arrogance that Hogan shows.  like that the Ox is holding Hoges to very high standards.

The Ox is poking the Bear (Hulk)  watch out round 1.  Hogan is angry

I hope that's true. I'd like to think we're professional in everything these days.

I hope it's not.

As much as I think he maybe should have shown Ox a little more respect, it's a breath of fresh air having players answering questions honestly rather than the stock-standard, clichéd, media-trained drivel most of them come out with.

i think if it was not fed to him it would have been a more flat bat answer.
I think the media team would have got on the google and looked that up for him and prepared him with a bit of a response, cant see him googling and putting too much thought into the comments made in the media, regardless of whether or not he was a Melbourne legend.

Putting Hogan forward for a bit of media after a win (albeit a practice match) is a lot easier than after a loss. I want to see professionalism in everything we do, which means helping those poor players who will have to front the media after we lose, too.

I understand what the Ox means, the kicking could be the difference between Jesse being a Travis Cloke or a josh Kennedy, having said that he seems to have very few bad kicking days, if he feels comfortable with that run up, go for it.

this is not the first big comment OX has made about Jesses contract, one not long ago about how we shouldn't break the bank to keep him right after he put talks on hold

they're pretty young Jes, maybe you should sign on for 10 years so you don't miss out? :D

Possibly, but he said in the interview that someone on twitter sent the stat to him last night

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
