The Long Weekend

Recommended Posts

Demon fans are in for a treat on the Labor Day Weekend coming up.

On Saturday, the Casey Scorpions kick off their series of practice matches against reigning premier Williamstown.

• Saturday 12 March v Williamstown, Casey Fields @ 12.30pm  (Development League 10.00am)

Then on Sunday, the senior Demon team is aiming for a threepeat of wins in the NAB Challenge at Etihad.

• Sunday 13 March v St Kilda @ 4.10pm

And given that we haven't had the opportunity to date to see most of our new recruits, it might be very worthwhile heading out to both sets of games to catch a first glimpse of our future talent.

My tennis team has made the grand final but the Waverley association has a long history of not playing on long weekends. So, I will head out to Casey on Saturday as a precursor to Sunday.

We can only hope mate!

I reckon Petracca might have to wait another week but Trengove might be a real possibility of getting a half of football in.

You'd think the last NAB game would be a good time to give him a run (if 100% medically and physically ready).

With an extended bench of 8 players and no interchange cap I'd think this would be a perfect opportunity to give Trenner's a taste.

At nothing really more than a guess, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Trengove played  in the VFL development league for a week or two before a few games at VFL level. I think the meds would be keen to really just ease him into it after such a long time out

Waverley Basketball is also in the middle of finals and having the weekend off.

wJ please don't use the term threepeat, you can do better than that.

I will always defer to the great Hemingway on matters of the English language, even American style.

What would you suggest?

... the senior team is relishing the opportunity to hear the preseason bell toll victory for a third time ...

Only 6 on the bench and 90 rotations this week.

The long weekend is here at last and I'm thinking of heading down to Cranbourne to see how much development there's been in one of Melbourne's fastest growing residential areas since I was last there less than two months ago.

I have no idea what to expect because, despite the advent of the Internet, nobody at either the MFC or CSFC has bothered to issue a list of players so it's all guesswork. There are 28 players nominated for the squad to play the Saints at Etihad tomorrow so that leaves 17 players left minus the injured list and Jake Melksham available. Leaving out the latter, they are:

5. Christian Petracca

6. Chris Dawes*

8. Heritier Lumumba

9. Jack Trengove

10. Angus Brayshaw*

14. Lynden Dunn*

19. Ben Newton*

24. Jay Kennedy-Harris

26. Sam Weideman

27. Liam Hulett

30. Alex Neal-Bullen

33. Jake Spencer*

34. Mitch King

37. Aaron vandenBerg*

41. Mitch White

44. Joel Smith*

47. Max King

* believed unavailable this week due to injury or illness.

There's also a question mark against Petracca and Trengove because we don't know whether they've done enough training blocks to warrant playing in a practice match. I suspect not because, surely the club would have let us know if they were on at Casey today.

So it's really a case of a traveling all that way to see Sam Weideman, ANB and a couple of other young talls battle it out with the Casey hopefuls (including Jake Lovett) against last year's VFL premiers.

How's the petrol price these days?

Hmmm, with a Weideman in Melbourne colours there's not much chance of Gill getting Eddie's approval for a COPA allowance.

Petrol Prices?   Why would that be a concern?

Drive on a lit further to Frankston, from what I hear, some (not all) get a free fill.

1; revove plates off vehicle (some known to borrow a car from nearby supermarkets etc)

2: Fill tank ..   drive off.

Not endosed by me btw, just heard this on the grapevine.

Same applies to Collingwood and surrounding areas. Broady is another.

Some of the latenighters, siphon from park cars in the wee hours of the morning.

I hope the above helps.

I get on a plane to Sydney tomorrow then on a cruise liner on Monday for 11 days around New Caledonia and Vanuatu. First family holiday for me ever - I'm 32, never went on one as a kid and am 10 years in to parenthood without having been on one. Excited would be an understatement!

Got my tickets to MFC vs Norf at Bellerive, and wife's study schedule permitting will nip over to Melbourne at least once again this year, hopefully for QB weekend. All I need is for the MFC to win a few this year and the year will be sweet as, starting with this long weekend.

Wait, what's this topic about again?

How to avoid seasickness by concentrating on the MFC?

Enjoy!

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full
