A win and no injuries - I'll take that any day. In the past we would have been belted by any opposition. Our fitness base is building because we seem to to be able to come from behind. Just ask BBO how important that is.

Last season we would have lost this game to the doggies VFL side. It's noted our skills still let us down at times but two things, it's a practice game and we won.

Beats losin IMO.

Vb has an injured ankle.

I was at the game and saw Hunt do some nice things out of the back line. He burned a couple a doggies players and spotted up someone on the wing.

I reckon he'll be alright.

Was the wind as bad as they were crapping on about on fox allmyteams?

No doubt you see more at the game but even his endeavour appeared to be lacking.

Obviously I'm happy to be proven wrong and he can become a handy player but as Clint said there's blokes who played games last ear who aren't getting a look in for one reason or another.

Three biggest individual positives were Oliver (clearly), Bugg and Viney looking to go up a level on last year. Michie also looked good when he came on. Beating an old drum but he deserves more opportunity. Grimes was again the engineer of some of our best forward entries. Watts contributed well. Pedo competed hard but undid some of his good work with poor decisions. Harmes is developing nicely.  Salem is starting off shakily but you get the sense he's blowing out some early cobwebs. Will hit the season proper with a flourish.

Overall the skill level was putrid today. Wasn't just due to the windy conditions, because the younger Dogs were noticeably using the ball better for close to three quarters. Competed well inside but turnovers which shouldn't happen at this level allowed them to remain in the contest. Always looked hurried coming out of the back half which needs to be tidied up quickly. From a team perspective, it was a bad day, but the win is important for team confidence.

Terrible game.

Skills just aren't there and we should ran all over the young dogs for 4 quarters not just when they tired. Wind was a factor in the first and 3rd quarter performances but not an excuse. Plus the kicking for the goal in the last might've shown we didn't know it was out there anyway.

Grimes, Watts, Kennedy, Tom McDonald, Garland, Harmes, Kent, Frost all showing the same flaws.

No real answers to who plays in round 1.

Wagner only played a half, Stretch unsighted, Vanders injured.

I'm not at all happy. The saints will show us up big time if we can't deal with pressure and defend smarter than we did for most of today.

We did catch a glimpse of Stretch when the camera panned into the stands. No possessions today though which was somewhat disappointing I felt. No changers however!!

Not sure what they are doing with Stretch. He can play half back or wing and let others play back there. No issues with Hunt playing ahead of ANB though. I really like ANB but he's in competition with the half forwards and midfield rotation. Hunt could be the attacking half back we need. So it's good to have him out there.

I thought his contested work was fine. I want to see him take the game on more. Maybe the windy conditions and lack of space stifled his game.

I think the biggest positive is we played close to as bad as this side is likely to play and they still found a way to win, good sides find a way to win when they are below their best.

Well i'm not sure what they were saying on fox as i was at the game but yes it was really windy, not super strong but it went straight down the ground on what was a suburban ground with zero structures to block the wind (the tiny stand was on a wing).

We did very, very well to score 3 goals against the wind and in some respects i reckon the coaches of both teams would be annoyed to have to pay a practice game in conditions they would never ply a game in. Made basic things like cross ing the ball or weighting passes very tricky. We were a monty to win once we kicked the first in the last as they couldn't get it forward.

There was a breeze, but it wasn't a gale or anything. Maybe it was a lot worse on the ground? Clearly it impacted the game, but it felt like a breeze to be honest.

Tony Shaw on the other hand is as thick as two planks.

I hate Derwayne because he is so condescending and always pots the weaker team.  But he is silk compared to Tony Shaw who has to be the worst I've ever heard.  It was so obvious from the first bounce that the wind really effected the game but did Tony understand that?  No. Not one mention of it.  No wonder he was such a plonker as a coach.

He's the worst I've ever heard.

What a load of bollocks.

I thought he was terrible...

This combination of fox footy callers would have to be the worst ever! Tony Shaw should only be allowed to do special comments only if he gives the via sign language!

Some good signs today as well as some things that need tightening up.

Good work boys happy that they pilled on the pressure at the end.

Couldn't agree more.

The first quarter are skills were deplorable kicking against the wind but when the doggies did it. It was the windy conditions not the skills.

Bloody septic tankers.

I thought half the team were.  If you thought he was terrible how did you rate Kennedy, Kent, Hunt, Frost, Wagner, Dunn, Pedersen and Garland?

Kent, Hunt and Frost just don't get involved enough although at least Kent makes things happen when he does.

Kennedy is one of the worst kicks I've seen.  I now understand comments that have been made all season.

Thought Watts and Gawn were fantastic today.  Viney and AVB pivotal.  Jones and Vince needed the run.

Garlett plays like a millionaire.  Misses the easy ones, gets the hard ones. Crumbs beautifully at times and drops chest marks.  The difference between his best and worst is unfathomable.

Gawn is outstanding. thought he was the most influential player on the ground today.  I'd be tempted to rest him for next week.  With Spencer injured we'd be screwed if he went down.

I am so glad that we do not have Tom Boyd on our list. He has got to be the most overpaid player in the league. If he doesn't kick 50 goals this season, how can he justify $900,000 a season? Hogan is a bargain at half the price!

He will be far better than both Hunt and Wagner for a start.  Good to give them some game time but still a fair way off the pace.  Lumumba will add run, good defensive capabilities and experience to that back 6, which is fine by me.

I would like both Hunt and Wagner to get full games next week, but they won't, we'll play the same players who make the same mistakes year after year. There are no excuses left, simply [censored] them off, and don't bring up experience, the Bulldogs had only 6 players with more than 26 games experience today. We are a mess. We signed Garland for three years, what a joke. NAB or not we went out to win and were shown up in a big way,

I think both last and this week its taken a half for us to apply (adapt) our new game style to the defensive style of the opposition. At several point the doggie defensive zone had us confused, moving in circles and turning it over. With out Hogan as a get out focal point at CHF we turned it over a lot going just inside 50...

Hopefully they learn heaps from it.

So this is now 28 consecutive weeks undefeated for the Dees! The flag must surely be a lock now.

It's one game.  In early March.  Don't get your knickers in a twist.

I'm happy for Hunt and Wagner to get game time, but they've shown that they are still some way off the pace of AFL footy.  They will continue to develop at Casey.  Nothing wrong with that.  Lumumba is ready to return and I have no doubt they'll slot him in across half back when the real stuff starts.

I mentioned one aspect of his day. He delivered the ball well inside 50 and on a day like today, that stood out.
