Legendary.

Someone on here the other day said that Oliver will set the standard for the MFC going forward.

They must have forgotten that Viney is the pioneer in that regard, and has been since he got to the club.  And he arrived at a club in a hell of a lot worse shape than what any of the more recent draftees have arrived to.

While not under appreciated by the red and blue faithful, I think Jack Viney is massively overlooked in his progress and impact these past four years.

On Saturday he Captained and led the club to a stirring from behind victory.

He dominated

  • Clearances with 10 clearances, twice the next midfielder (Tyson on 5 and for Port's best, Gray on 5) and more than the mighty Max Gawn (on 7)
  • Disposals with 28 at 71.4% DE, 9 more than Vandenberg (63.2% DE), 6 more than Boak (59.1%) who was Ports best in this stat.

At the start of the third quarter, the players huddled around him and he gave them the final rev up.

Not bad for a 21 year old small mid who would have won last years B&F if not for injury...

He's a ripper!

Which is why I threw a cheeky 10

on him for the Brownlow 2 months ago at 151-1

Good call - my only worry is the bloody MRP who this year will penalize "hard tackles".  FCS the Oliver one at the weekend wasn't even really hard.  Just solid.

I know this thread is about Jack but just looking at our young mids

Brayshaw, Viney, Petracca, Oliver, Tyson, Vanders, Salem, Kennedy, Bugg, Trengove,

add in Jones and Vince, and Gawn spoon feeding them,

So impressive the transformation of this club, Roos took over imo the worst side of all time and in 2 an a bit seasons has turned us into a genuine Finals contender with a huge level of talent, imo the best coaching staff in the AFL and an extremely exciting few years coming up.

Serious question. How would we feel about co-captains again in Viney and Brayshaw come 2018 or so?

No happy with Viney and a leadership team including Brayshaw, Hogan, Oliver, Petracca, Salem and Tyson (in alphabetical order).

I noticed at the start of preseason training that the big difference was the young guns were the ones taking ownership of the club.

A real change from the past. This was led by Viney, Brayshaw,Hogan, Gawn etc. I guess mainly because the likes of Jones Trengove Vince were injured or in rehab.

This as seen in the first hit out, has continued, there is respect and trust developing in each other.

There was a huge improvement in breaking away from congestion, and transitioning from contested to uncontested ball. Viney was the main one responsible for this, though it's very much a team thing where you need players running past on the edge of the congestion, and the clearance specialist prepared to wait & look for the "give" rather than just blast it aimlessly upfield. Perhaps it's just getting the most team value out of Viney's undoubted talent at winning contested ball.

Agree with all that but big Maxxy was also a big factor

Funny how many don't rate ruckmen until they have a dominant one. On ballers become stars when they are spoon fed by a dominant ruckman. We may have a gem in Gawn. If I were in the midfield I would buy Gawnie lunch every day.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan.
